Jakania launches formal election campaign with Tropica visist
World Congress representative al-Darwish marks beginning of the Security Council campaign with symbolic visit to the so-called Third World9 July 4749
In the wake of Security Council elections earlier this year, politicians and diplomats from Jakania have come together to support a formal campaign to elect the country to Seat B on the World Congress' governing authority. Following on from an unsuccessful push towards the end of the last session, the Jakanian government and opposition are keen to build on their limited success. The new campaign will be known as "Vote Jakania: Unity and Friendship" and will direct efforts already begun prior to the last election by Jakania's World Congress delegation.

Wardiyya al-Darwish, the country's permanent representative, has become the unofficial face of the campaign and embarked on a trip to Tropica in order to promote the Jakanian effort. For several years now, al-Darwish has been an active participant on behalf of Jakania in the World Congress General Assembly. Alongside other diplomats in the Jakanian Department of World Congress Affairs as well as domestic politicians, al-Darwish has been publicly frustrated by the unresponsive nature of Selucia, Majatra's current representative on the Security Council.
Upon her arrival in Tropica, al-Darwish met with representatives from the government of Makuku Manuera, including the Foreign Minister and her own counterpart Elsa Prince. The delegations are reported to have discussed a variety of issues of international concern, particularly with respect to the World Congress. Tropica and Jakania have become unlikely partners in the General Assembly owing to their shared support for an international organisation to support an end to food insecurity and malnutrition.
Throughout the remainder of the three days that the Permanent Representative spent in the country, she visited a diverse array of agricultural groups, charitable organisations and even religious institutions. Tropica has seen significant economic change in the past five years since Manuera became Prime Minister, with many industrial sectors switching to co-operative methods of production in contrast to the private corporation models that dominate many countries in the developed world.
In a speech at the headquarters of the Union of Agricultural Workers, al-Darwish told the assembled crowd, "Jakania's campaign is about asserting two key values: unity and friendship. Governments and nations across the globe are striving for the same objectives, of international peace and security, which is what we mean by unity. When we refer to friendship, we mean a mutual respect for our differences and a commitment to cooperation on shared values".
Vote Jakania: Unity and Friendship is the official campaign vehicle authorised by the Jakanian government to support the country's election to the World Congress Security Council.
