Resources of Terra

Postby MapleUnity » Sun Nov 06, 2011 9:53 pm

Okay, so I have a question. Is there a map of Terra that shows the natural resources that occur there? Obviously not ubiquitous resources but rather localized resources, such as petroleum, coal and heavy metals? I can't seem to find any map like that on Particracy, and I think that it would be a welcome tool for RP reasons.

I know that you can't force these type of things onto players, and as such I think that this map could be opt-in, like the Economic System and the Cultural System that the Mods have just released. RP nations who want to add realism and consent to their RP's could use this as a guide to help notify themselves over what they could gain and lose in alliances and wars. I know that I would definetly use this map in any RP I joined.

Also, since this might be touchy for some players who want everything to be on their own land, I think that players who are interested in opting into this map and system when it's finished could discuss the whereabouts of these resources. I'm sure that we could all get together and make a map that makes senses, right?

I think that a map detailing these resources would really benefit any RP's. What does everyone else think?

o.0

I'd love to work on something like this! I know it was noted that Dorvik was well known for it's Timber and Fishing output as well as it's telecommunications.

That's more up to the players. Moderation isn't really allowed to get into the details of RP.

That's completely understandable, and I can see why.

So any player who is interested should mention something below, so we can start working together to create this map/tool.

I know that both Reilly and Zanz are the best map makers here, however I wouldn't want to speak for them :P

So you should ask if they want to help you out.

And Reilly, if you see this, looking at the hold map thread you created, you are yet to beat me when it comes to post count :P

Well, I come back one time in months and I find myself getting complimented here ;)

Thanks, Eryk. Unfortunately I haven't enough time for this sort of contribution, though I do believe it would be nice to have. Hope you all can figure it out!

Well, I wouldn't know about that. I just use MS paint. And yes Eyrk, at one point I tried to keep up with you in post count, but eventually you got away from me.

I'd be delighted to work on something like this. These things can be difficult, as they don't always correspond to what everybody hopes for or wants, but it would be a brilliant thing to have.
Down with this sort of thing

Okay, so after some long and very boring research, I've come up with a rough, rough draft of the various oil and mineral resources throughout Terra. Of course, since I am not at all good with maps or anything fancy like that (leave that up to somebody else ;) ) I used Excel to make the list.

I also created my own scale for each of the nations. Here's how my scale works:

AAA = abundance of that resource, industry built around it
AA = adundance of that resource, being tapped into
A = abundance of that resource, not being tapped into

BBB = some of that resource, industry built around it
BB = some of that resource, being tapped into
B = some of that resource, not being tapped into

CCC = not much at all of that resource, industry built around it (suffering)
CC = not much at all of that resource, being tapped into still
C = not much of that resource

+ means that the industry and prominence of that resource is growing, while
- means that the industry and prominence of that resource is diminishing

So here it is:

Nations Oil Rating Mineral Rating
Al'Badara BB+ AA-
Aldegar B C
Alduria B B
Aloria BBB- BBB-
Hutori B B
Baltusia B+ B
Barmenia B B
Beiteynu B B
Beluzia AAA+ C
Cildania AA CCC
Cobura CCC- C
Darnussia C BBB
Davostan C C
Deltaria BB+ BB+
Dolgava B B
Dorvik AA- C
Dranland BB- C
Dundorf B B
Egelion C C
Endralon B B
Gaduridos C C
Hobrazia C C
Hulstria C AA
Ikradon C C
Indrala B BB+
Jakania C C
Jelbania C C
Kafuristan BB+ C
Kalistan B AAA
Kalopia CC CC
Kanjor B B
Kazulia A- AA+
Keymon B B
Kirlawa B B
Kundrati C C
Likatonia B A
Lodamun C C
Lourenne C B
Luthori BB BB
Malivia B BB
Mordusia B C
New Endralon C C
Pontesi C BB+
Istaliana (Quanzar) C C
Rildanor AA A-
Rutania B BB
Saridan BBB+ B+
Selucia B B
Solentia BB BB
Talmoria C C
Telamon B C
Trigunia B B
Tukarali C C
Valruzia C C
Vanuku C C
Vorona C C
Zardugal BB BB

Now, obvs the players themselves know their nation better than anyone else. I just used the Wiki (which looks great for basically every nation, good job people who work on that :D ). So players who want to change their rating should post below, before we make a map using this. Be realistic though, this is only for RP purposes and it shouldn't really matter, right? right?!....

Nice way to rate the country that supplied you oil :) but I think Gaduridos has a pretty good precedent of having minerals and oils (pontesi colony, military junta, corrupted leaders, corporate protectorate) and it has quite a large area of water to be used to say, drill for oil. ;)

Personally, I think any nation can claim stuff, though we must be realistic - no nation would have every natural resources.

 ... sorry bout that, just showing how completely unbiased I tried to be

anyways, when I couldn't find the info on the Wiki, I just put a C ... guess to see who pays attention :D

What would you rate yourself? Be realistic though, otherwise this won't be at all useful

I'm not sure what I would rate it, or rate other nations. Each nations has their right to RP a realistic scenario where they have these resources, and Gaduridos I'm not sure, there is a precedent of both being in respectable abundance, mostly plantation resources, though I'll try to read more into Gaduri history.
