Independence

Postby Frebo » Mon Oct 06, 2014 8:49 pm

I'm a Scot, who recently voted yes for Scottish independence in the referendum and I am currently coming up with an angle that could incorporate such a scenario into the world of Terra. What I would like to know is if it would be possible for a region to become independent, or do the game's mechanics ban such a move?

It's not so much "banned" as "impossible."

If you're experienced in some form of "creative" computing you might have a chance of creating an independent region, if not then you might have to wait a bit. There's no reason why you can't simulate it through RP, creating a territory that is for all intents and purposes independent but I'm guessing something like that wouldn't interest you that much.

Good to see more Scots/Yes voters around here, I think there's like five of us now, Me, Mike and some other guys who's names I forget, plus I think CS is at St Andrews.

Soon you pro-independence Scots are going to outnumber us English around here!! :) I do wish Terra had a Scottish themed nation, but it lacks one at the moment.

To answer your question, the game mechanics do not allow for a region within a nation to secede in the technical, on-screen sense of being able to form their own legislature, vote on their own laws, pass their own budgets, sign their own treaties and so on. Of course, with the consent of the other players in a nation, you are free to role-play all manner of scenarios amongst yourselves - including regional secessionist movements. Unfortunately, though, you cannot confine a party to competing in just one region, nor can you necessarily guarantee it will perform more strongly in one region than another.

With the consent of the players involved, roleplays do sometimes take place where one nation occupies another. At the moment, Alduria is rebelling against Luthori, its colonial overlord. You're very welcome to join Alduria (where I'm playing) if that interests you at all. I think Jakania is currently occupied by Luthori as well.

There are non-playable colonies in the game, most of which (I think) are now under the control of Indrala. I suppose you could always talked to the colonial nation players and ask them if they're willing to let you roleplay (in the sense of posting posts on the forum) one of the colonial territories.

Terra actually does have a Celtic Irish Scottish themed nation, it's Kirlawa.

If you would like to play in that nation it's great they are currently lacking in parties so they could sure use another one! :)
Kirlawa Liberals - Inactive
Baltusia Conservatives - Inactive
Rutanian Democratic Party - Inactive
Conservative Party of Luthori - Active

A simple answer: the game doesn't facilitate that right now, but you can roleplay it.
So no, you won't physically see a seceded territory, but you can roleplay that there is one. It has been done before in Dranland, and I did it with other players when I was in Beluzia.

Sorry that the game mechanics limit things for you, but message me privately and we can talk about how to get around this. Trust me; there is a way.

Thanks for those that replied and yes, it is always nice to meet other Scots. Thank you, Michael. I'm currently playing in Vorona, however I have played in Hutori for a number of years on/off for a number of years now and I suppose, for me it has always closely resembled Great Britain in many ways, mostly England ofcourse.
