Particracy's FAQ

Postby Aquinas » Mon Jun 22, 2015 11:56 pm

As many of you know, Particracy's FAQ page has not been updated for some time. I am pleased to report, however, that Wouter has assured me we can update the FAQ without crashing the system, and both Amazeroth and I are keen that we should make some progress in terms of doing something about it. It seems we will be stuck with the same FAQ "categories" (ie. "General", "Elections" and "Bills"), but we can add new FAQs and we can amend or remove the existing ones.

Actually, I have been doing a bit of this today. Earlier I conducted a preliminary edit of the FAQ, mainly removing bits which, over the course of time, had become outdated and/or misleading.

Before too long, I hope we will be able to boast an FAQ which is relevant, accessible and helpful. In particular, I hope it will become a good resource for less experienced players to turn to in order to learn about how Particracy and its rules work.

But since we are still in the process of thinking about and drawing up a new FAQ, I would like to consult with the wisest experts I know on the subject - that is you, the players of Particracy.

So all suggestions and ideas gratefully received!

There should probably be something on there encouraging people to sign up to the forum.

I agree with Jacob, a lot of people seem either unaware or disinterested in all the things going on here.

Indeed, I agree. If we ushered more people onto the forums I believe RP would increase ten-fold.

I totally agree. The new FAQ should tell players about the opportunities offered by the forum and try to enthuse them about the idea of coming here.

Probably should be included in there and stating that the LOD is the base currency, most equivalent to US dollars.

Trying to figure out the economics is definitely something that should be looked into. I know that my former economic protocols were, to say the least, biased (towards laissez faire economics) and crap.

I can add my 2 cents on that when you're ready to have such a discussion.

I have 3 things to say that I can elaborate on in that thread when it is started:

1) Yes, your Econ protocols may have been biased in terms of laissez-faire economics, but the game (and the world) does use Keynesian formulas for its stuff so it's not so much of a bad thing.

2) Interestingly, I've found that having Socialist/Statist fiscal policies (while running a balanced budget) in Particracy will lead to higher GDP. I recorded this information in a case in Lodamun, and I also notice now that Trigunia (where Government Spending is more than 40% of GDP and Consumption is less than 50% of GDP) has the highest GDP in Terra (and it isn't in debt).

3) EEL and I were working on incorporating certain things into my spreadsheets, essentially an overhaul of the "Subjective Remarks" section that was based on your Econ Protocols. If you notice, a country with tax revenue exceeding 30% of GDP is considered to have a "High Tax Burden" - I based most of these classifications on your Econ Protocols. You can help me to shake them up a little, like EEL was trying to do.
Check out my latest Particracy project, and feel free to discuss it in the forums.

That's a fair point, especially since (so far as I know) the exchange rates page is not linked to anywhere inside the game.
