How did you find Particracy?

Postby Aquinas » Sun Jul 26, 2015 5:24 pm

We have a discussion going on in the Better advertising... thread about getting the word out about Particracy. I figure it would interesting, and maybe helpful, to talk about how we first heard about Particracy, what first attracted us here and what our first impressions were of the game.

Beginning with myself, I think I found Particracy by doing a search for "political simulation games" on a search engine. At first, I found the game a bit confusing and frustrating in some ways, but I quickly got the hang of it and became an addict.

I also remember getting told off for changing the name of the Head of State to "Prime Minister" and the name of the Head of Government to "President". But it was an accident, honest...

Same.

What I wanted was a political simulation game where I didn't have full control of the country. I wanted some sort of competition for power, some obstacle to controlling everything. I like Particracy because you have to compete to get control of the country, and even when you have control of the country, your country is a minor force in the international scene. It's not too minor like in CyberNations or NationStates where you have so many nations that you'll never even know 5% of them, but neither is it so much that you have complete control of the outcome of your actions.

There are so many things which can make nations so different. Each nation has an extensive set of laws, whereas CN and NS just give you very general categories; in CN, you choose them, in NS, you determine them by responding to issues, but they're still limited categories, so no interest in learning about other nations after you've already seen like 10 of them.
Check out my latest Particracy project, and feel free to discuss it in the forums.

Started playing Cyber Nations and NationStates around 2006 and got pretty involved with CN. Also me and a friend did a lot of RP between both our countries; this set up the basis for my interest in political RP. I'm not sure of how I specifically found my way to Particracy, but judging by the timing of when I joined, I'd say I was bored with CN/NS, especially since I wasn't RPing at that point. I'm pretty sure I found it through a google search for political simulations. I do recall at some point finding Particracy, looking through it a bit, and then deciding not to play for whatever reason. Then a month or so later I looked it back up and actually joined.

I'm one week new and I found this game just a few days after I found cybernation, when looking on google for a political game like Democracy (1, 2 or 3) featuring elections and multiple parties. Cybernation appears dull to me because you make broad ethical choices (which is nice), but there aren't really anything else to do except roleplaying your country. It can be interesting, but I looked a game which could more than Cybernation stand on its own feet.

Hmmm...

Just after I lost the Minister of Education position and was expelled from one of Nationstates' biggest communist regions at the end of May 2015(they never found out that I'm not a communist at all  ) after losing a small "civil war" during which I supported the regional government against the Leninist revolutionaries I roamed around the NS world and noticed that a far-left player I knew posted a message on the region he conquered's RMB. He encouraged people to join particracy and spread communism, I decided to check the game out(already knowing that I won't spread communism, but fight it as a fanatical capitalist). The game seemed very interesting from the first sight, even though it had that old-school 2000-ish look I don't especially fancy. I decided to select Saridan because it had a cool map color and name that made me think of the wonderful island of Sardinia and Sardines(sounds like a stupid reason, I know). After 3 in-game years in my first nation I went on vacation and created the party(not much of a party, rather a great house)I use now.

The last part doesn't have much to do with finding the game, but I decided to add it nevertheless in order to not forget about my particracy history in the future.
I'm back. Back at it again with the white vans.

I decided to go to Ibutho because there were already two parties and I tought that I could do a third party and play the coalition/minoritary government game. Little did I know that the other party was soon inactivated and that I was with the main tester of Particracy Dev, which wanted to experiment a unique-party form of of government. I resisted because of my democratic principles (which Siggon would not think are democratic), but eventually gave in. Since then Ibutho has seen two other main parties (besides our two) and the activity of one of them seems to be delining (M924, where are you?) I'll see what the future reserves to me, but so far I am hooked.

TCB? :P

I have a similar story.

After losing the Prime Minister elections in one of the larger NationStates British regions, I became dissatisfied and felt a larger need in actual politics in my life. I searched high and low for something -anything- that could stimulate the mind. I found it in this game. I came here to spread progressive monarchism all over the small nation that I got into after everyone left it.
