So I need a little help, I did most of the legwork I just need some clarity. I'm renaming Pontesi to the Pontesian Republic and I used Google Translate, from English to Latin, for Pontesian Republic but there was no translation. res publica is Latin for republic, state, commonwealth from what I am finding.

So would the proper name be Pontesian Republic or Pontesian res publica? Or something else?

Google Translate can't translate words that don't exist in the language you're translating from, in this case "Pontesi". The IG Latin word for Pontesi used to be "Ponticum", but that's too close to RL Pontic-related words. So recently we decided on "Pontean" for "Pontesian" in English; your nation name would then be "Res Publica Pontea".
