Moderators should be playing the game

Postby SelucianCrusader » Fri Feb 19, 2016 5:37 pm

I remember Malivia under Amazeroth: an unique place, a mystical Hindu Indonesian jungle with a very dark undertone, the only regime based upon an unholy ideology that I have known of apart from Davsotan. I visited Malivia during these great days with the Crusade and planned to use it as an inspiration for an unholy movement in Athlorcaea (Hutori).

Now it's partly Hosian, German and Malay (!)

I also remember the many great RP-deeds done by Aquinas, in Dranland, Zardugal, Solentia, Gaduridos and Barmenia of course - and probably a few more. Few players were so rich in innovation and variation, and continuity. I even think Aquinas was the original inventor of the idea of nationmastery and contributed largely to what made Dranland the greatest game experience that ever was.

We need both of you in the game again. This idea that mods shouldn't play is very new and didn't exist before Amazeroth became sick. Aquinas, you're more than welcome in Pontesi if you want, and you too Amaz when you've got time. There's two of you, so one could step in whenever the other one is involved in something that needs moderation's attention and I don't think anything could be better for new players than potentially getting a moderator as a mentor.

So.. come back to the game plz..

I have expressed this to Aquinas before! I miss his roleplay. I get that Amaz isn't coming back but Aquinas has been here all the time, working his arse off. Join the fun!

I very much miss playing the game, to be honest, and at times have longed to rejoin. Unfortunately this is a tricky area, because Moderators can so easily be perceived to be influenced by in-game biases/agendas.

I'm glad (and possibly a bit intrigued) to hear that. :D Honestly, you are probably the last person I'd expect to abuse your powers.. and it's not like you can edit election results after all. I think few here could see you bully newer players with ealry election tactics or give yourself an army of cyber-nukes - especially since that's going to be regulated by the RP team away.

As I said, you're welcome to Pontesi anyway. ;)

Perhaps the best place for a moderator to play is in a busy country as a bit of a minor issue party, basically what Aquinas has done a thousand times in the past :P

If he's going to play, he should play where he wants - neither where he can do little damage (in Kubrick's suggestion) nor where we could most use him for his abilities (in SelCru's). He should play because he wants to, and he shouldn't be expected to behave any differently in his play than any other player - which is what makes playing as a mod so frustratingly difficult and tedious.

Perhaps none of us would suspect Aquinas of bias - but if a new player joins a country where moderation plays, without knowing Aquinas as most of us do, he is likely to interpret every action from Aquinas the player as inseparable from Aquinas the mod, and vice versa. Knowing Aquinas as I do, I imagine that even the suspicion from a new player that Aquinas' integrity might be questionable would be a heavy blow... One that I, personally, wouldn't recommend even opening himself to the possibility of.

I maintain the unpopular opinion (shared by Darvian first, rejected by me initially, and never shared by Aquinas) that if mods want to play they either should do so anonymously or else not do so at all - we've seen what can happen.
Just a bunch of shit.

Odd- I am able to separate RP PCs from the jobs they do IRL all the time!

I would be happy if the moderators played. It would give them an idea of the game, as it is now, from the PC's perspective. They need this perspective, IMO, to be a good moderator. And its not like everyone around here isn't going to call the Moderators out for godmodding. Folks do that even when there is none. :)

I'd say, if you put up a poll, who would oppose it?

Let's face it, Aquinas is the antonym of bullying. If I ever saw him abusing his mod powers, I'd seriously start accusing my cat of replacing my medications with someone else's. I endorse this proposal overall, although I believe it should be at Aquinas' discretion to decide whether he feels capable of playing the game or not.
I'm back. Back at it again with the white vans.

I don't think there should be any restrictions on mods playing games, or any specifications on where they are allowed to play.
I think the only thing we need to have is at least 2 mods, so that one can handle matters concerning the other's gameplay. For example, if someone questions Aquinas' gameplay, Amazeroth would handle it. I expect that these matters would be handled transparently.

I agree with Siggon, it doesn't matter if they are moderation, they are still players and should be able to play the game and join in on the experience. When i first came here the Dranland Dream was coming to an end, so i never really got to see much of it, and i would like to see how it is. We could always have One Moderator monitoring the other's game-play, as Siggon said.
