Economics and War RP

Postby historybuff8910 » Wed Aug 31, 2016 8:15 pm

Hi,

I'm very new to role playing, and I was wondering how economics and war is role played. Could somebody explain to me how it works and an example of it?

Thanks!

Howdy.

We've all been new to RPing, so its all good.

First of all, RPing is done in character. If you are going to do economic RPing, you would have to make sure your country has the capability to do the things you are describing. If not, just RP building them, slowly (use realistic time frames- the interstate highway system was not built in a day), be realistic, and gradually build up until you are at a point in development when you can actually accomplish your original goals. Post stuff in the forums, in the appropriate channels (write stories for your National newspaper, talk in conferences that you are part of and so forth) but make sure to do so in character. Like for example: If you are playing a socialist Party, how would socialists speak about a particular issue.

Also: Spend some time familiarizing yourself with the history. The good thing about the forums is that they thread the history, so you can follow the public history of any country you like back hundreds of years. Some of the Papers are more interesting than others. You will read about wars, elections, strikes, marriages and so forth in the various Party newspapers. Get a feel for how other, prolific players write and then imitate that.

If you want to RP a war, you have to have a partner to go in on the war with you. You would work with your Partner behind the scenes to plan the various episodes of the War, and then Kayfabe, play it out in the National Presses or special threads just fo the war.

For example: Look at the planning behind the recent RP World War: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=6589

All the moves were negotiated by the players before they went out. You can read the discussions we were having behind the scenes, and often times, those were as interesting as the IC thread, which is found here: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=6611&start=0#p97018

But you have to work out the war RP, including who will die and so forth and who will win where, and finally how you will end the war. This ensures that you are not surprising your partner with some crazy thing like a nuclear navy when they assumed you were throwing sticks and rocks. The goal, to make it fun is to work the RP out, so there are no surprises. You don't want to run a "shoot" Rp (or play it out as if it were real, complete with gotchas), because then nobody will want to RP with you anymore, and you will break the one you are in. Write for your audience, not just for yourself, and play to the audience. In Kayfabe, there is no room for ego- the goal is to produce a great story that people who aren't directly part of it look forward to reading, and one which you enjoy writing.

That should be the goal of all the RPs you do. Write ones that others like to read, and you have fun writing. Do that, and don't get wrapped up in who wins what so much, and even a loss in a war will be a blast to play out. If you instead treat it as if it were real, and get emotionally wrapped up in it, it will quickly stop being fun real quick. For instance, Kalistan (my country) and Baltusia are currently in kind of a weird space in our RP, where too many people are treating it as a shoot. It is kind of aimless, and it is getting kind of boring, because we keep going over the same ground and there is no coordination. I think I will will OOC 9that's out of character) propose to the Baltusian payers that we build an end game to work toward, rather than doing shoots one after another in our National Press and in our legislatures. That way, even if it is to go on for a significant length of time, we learn what each of the players hopes to get out of the RP conflict and have a goal to work toward.

And finally, treat other players as if they were friends and associates. Most of us do not know anyone else personally on this game, but if you treat people respectfully and as fellow players, and don't take anything too seriously or personally, you will really have a lot of fun. I speak as someone who has played Particracy since 2008. People are down to talk and help, but just don't take things seriously, and you will have fun. After all, this is a game, and while some of us have a lot invested in the game, nobody should treat this as something that is a real thing, that we have to get apoplexy over.

Good luck, and of course, if you have any questions, drop them down here.

Peace,
Doc

Thank you so much for the help! Do you think you could give me some examples of the economics rp? It doesn't seem like it's a prevalent and wars and rebellions.
