Law Drafting Committee?

Postby Reddy » Sat Jun 03, 2017 8:57 am

Moderation is considering some kind of organised law drafting committee. It would be charged with reviewing the current variables and making proposals on how to improve or remove those which are not so good or are just duplicates. It would also make proposals of its own and advise Moderation on which proposals are suitable for adoption. Individual players would still be able to make proposals of their own but I think an organised approach could help.

What do we think?

I think this is a fantastic idea. There are quite a few areas in which many of the variables could be streamlined/refined and to have someone dedicated to pursuing that would be immensely helpful.

I agree, such an important aspect to the game deserves focus, improvement and new additions.

100% with this idea.

I would love to sit on a committee like this. Now that this issue with laws is fixed I'm going to really take a look at working to come up with a comprehensive list of laws that can be added in all spheres.

EDIT: For reference, regardless of what happens, something like this should implement that all laws have to have the default variable be "The government has no policy regarding XYZ" so that players can be able to debate and implement the policy when it's added.

OK we are going ahead with this. No final details yet but Moderation hopes to have a functional Law Drafting Committee up and running by the end of the month.

The structure will be a two tiered one. The whole Committee deciding together on which proposals to endorse and a number of smaller sub-committees dedicated to more specialised areas including simple corrections, adding new variables to existing laws and drafting new laws entirely. Moderation is looking at a membership of around nine players in total.

All those interested in serving on the Committee, please contact me via pm here or in-game to the Moderation account. Candidates need to have played the game continuously for at least one month and with an actual and strong interest in the work of the proposed Committee. Those successful will be appointed for a renewable six month term.

so individual players could make their own proposals?

But how would the game know what it is for or against

Yes individual players can still make their own proposals.

As for your second question, I'm not sure I understand what you are asking there. If it's details on how the game engine processes the law variables, Moderation as official policy dictates, cannot discuss that in detail.

I'd be very interested in doing something like this. I've always been thinking of new laws we could have in particracy. I think it's a brilliant idea, by the way.
