An Eye on the World with a View to HomeDeath to Terrorists score massive strike against Carlist forces
Prince said to be injured, 5 others, including bomber, deadKajbur Palace, Malivia
July 8, 4776Truck bomb damages Carlist Command HQAfter laying low for some time, and focusing on dealing illicit drugs to the people of Keymon, the terrorist organization known as Death to Terrorists struck out once more in explosive fashion. The group claimed responsibility for a massive explosion outside the HQ of Prince Carlu at the famed Kajbur Palace in Malivia, which severely damaged the structure of the building and killed one Captain and 3 NCOs who were near the site of the explosion. In addition, it is confirmed that Carlu himself, who was at the HQ during the attack, was also injured, though the extent of his injuries has not been reported at this time.
The bomb was detonated directly following Morning Colors, as Carlist staff was beginning work for the day. It was delivered in a sanitation truck that was reportedly driven into the compound by one Giuseppe diFierno, who later matched the description of the terrorist known to intelligence services as "The Fork". DiFierno parked the truck, and exited, running toward the gate when the bomb detonated. The bomber himself was mortally injured by flying shrapnel and died on the site. Police investigating the scene found forged identification, as well as a cell phone on the body. It is unclear whether the cellphone contains any actionable intelligence, but it far more likely that the phone was a burner used to set off the bomb timer. The positive identification of the body was made by the police chief in charge of the investigation.
Carlu was himself rushed, under heavy guard, to the emergency ward of the local hospital to treat his injuries. There have been no updates to his condition at press time.
This is the most audacious attack from the terror organization to date and hints at a change of strategy. Past targets have included soft sites such as orphanages and hospitals, but this attack at the very heart of the Carlist movement far outside Keymon could itself be a new phase in the ongoing violence within the island Kingdom itself. It is unclear whether Death to Terrorists has declared allegiance to Queen Eva, or if this attack was just more random chaos from the group. A statement from the leader merely reiterated his group's return to active violence in an effort to "defeat the enemies of the people and free enterprise," though, for the most part, both warring sides and all interventionary groups have largely ignored Death to Terrorists' activities.
More remains to be discovered, but for now, this attack which nearly killed the General of one of the sides, further complicates the affairs in Keymon.
As the Malivia player, I'm happy to roll with this, and I'm not making a big deal about it, but I want to make the point that next time when it comes to something like this, it would be nice if I could be consulted (or at least informed) in advance!
EDIT:
@yolo and @chitin, we talked about having Carlu kidnapped from Malivia and taken to Keymon to face trial.
Following the attack on Kajpur Palace, his security at Kajpur Palace will naturally be beefed up, making an abduction more challenging.
From my point of view, there would seem to be two angles of potential vulnerability for Carlu...
(a] He is surrounded in Malivia by some of his fellow Keymonite exiles. Some of these may not be happy with him for swearing allegiance to the Greater Malivian Empire. Perhaps they would be willing to betray him? eg. a private jaunt in a helicopter or a motorboat turns in to something more than he expected...
(b) The longer he remains in Malivia, the more he is going to become frustrated that nothing is happening. It will dawn on him more and more that neither Malivia or anyone else is going to fight a war to put him back on the throne of Keymon. So perhaps Queen Eva, or some of her associates, might find a way to lure him back to Keymon, with promises of reconciliation? Maybe even a suggestion he would be allowed to form his own political party in Keymon and compete for political power? All ending in betrayal, of course...
Let me know what you all think.
