Nation Name Translations

Postby Reddy » Thu Jul 02, 2020 5:09 pm

Is there any good reason why Moderation doesn't include the English translations of nation names when renaming a nation? I find this restriction to be completely illogical and makes it a bit more difficult to identify the constitutional character of a country if its full name is in Coptic or Welsh for instance. If there is any logic behind this, let me know.

I think is the few space for letters, if the name is too long it wont fit and some letters are left out

Weve been discussing the usage of both English and non-Latin script in nation names and titles. Its something that weve placed a temproary rule on and were goingnto be formalizing a rule in the near future.

In all honesty, I think that the nation names with both native and English are far too long and its something we've discussed and will continue to discuss.

Alright then. I hope you all decide in favour of reverting to the old method for English translations at least for short and medium length titles

It would likely be a uniform appearance across the board.

I agree with Reddy. English translations ought to be permitted, even if they are only to be inserted in brackets.

Non-Latin script should also be allowed where appropriate, especially as finding Latin script translations for some languages is not easy.

The new rules that we are discussing will require Latin-based transliterations for nation names, I'll discuss with everyone about the addition of English-based titles to be included in the nation name but quite honestly, it looks messy in my opinion. We're still discussing the route we want to take with the non-English and non-Latin scripts.
