Including the RP Committee (RPC) in handling requests

Hello all. Quickly following-up on the forum overhaul, we'd like to introduce the requests handbook which essentially splits request management between the RPC and me. As you'll notice requests are now marked with the RPC & A indications.

Just to avoid any confusion the RP Committee consists of:

- Louis as the RPC Lead sets the tone and the direction
- Zdanov (drax), Nick (nicolo), Pragma and Bradley (autokrator) as the RPC Members
- These 5 make the core team that has to reach consensus on requests
- James is an RPC Associate involved in advise/consults, but does not take part in consensus

Updated format for the Real-Life Equivalents Index

Following our announcement earlier this week, the Role-Play Committee has updated the formatting of the Real-Life Equivalents Index. The list has been divided into distinct sections and equivalents for languages have been separated from equivalents for peoples. The new formatting is designed to make the Index easier to read and navigate. Please let us know what you think.

The next step in updating the Index will be updating the list of real-life equivalents itself. This process will be ongoing over the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, please continue to share any suggestions in the Real-Life Equivalents feedback thread.

Increased response times and less availability during holidays

Updating the population information

Moderation and the Role-Play Committee are planning to update the official population information. At present, we are hoping to post the updated figures for community feedback on 19 January 2024.

In advance of that, we would like to invite players to share feedback on the current figures and make suggestions on what we should consider when we update them. In particular, we would appreciate if you could share details of any major role-play events (e.g. internal conflict, economic crisis) that might affect population numbers.

Updated format for the Cultural Protocols Index

The Cultural Protocols Index has been updated. Rather than being organised into continental sections, countries are simply listed in alphabetical order. The aim of the change is to make it easier for players to find a specific country. New players are unlikely to be familiar with the continents of the game world and older players will not necessarily recall them easily.

At the same time, a number of country descriptions have been updated or simplified. A full list of the changes can be found in the cultural protocols requests thread. If you have any feedback or suggestions on the change, please let us know in that thread.

Updated descriptions of the forum-based countries

The Role-Play Committee is updating the descriptions of the forum-based countries. We are adopting a new system for describing the cultural backgrounds of all forum-based countries. The new system will be based on the cultural protocols already used for in-game countries. Under the new system, each country description will include an overview of the country’s real-life inspirations, ethnic and religious percentage breakdowns, and a short summary of the most commonly spoken languages.

The aim of the change is to make it easier for players to understand the cultural backgrounds of the forum-based countries. Over the past few years, several players have said the current descriptions are unclear or ambiguous. In the long run, the new system would hopefully encourage more players to role-play in the forum-based countries.

In order to allow a proper opportunity for feedback on each country, we will be presenting the new descriptions over the course of the coming months. The new descriptions will be written by the Role-Play Committee with the help of the controller of each country (where relevant), then presented to the community as a whole for feedback.

Giving RP Guides a spin

In the spirit of giving more support to a lot of players who are currently engaged or trying to find ways to engage in international RP, we'll be giving the concept of RP Guides a quick test, see if it makes sense.

Basically RP Guides are experienced RP players who are also eager to guide and assist other players. The RPC is still the go to team, this is why we're going to give this a spin first. We're just gonna do a role on Discord to simply help differentiate these players visually, that's all.

I'll be messaging a few folks directly, see if they're open to it and we'll take it from there.

If it doesn't work, we'll scrap it, of course.

Updating the Oil and Gas Index

The Role-Play Committee is planning to update the Oil and Gas Index in the coming weeks. Ahead of this update, we would like to ask for feedback and suggestions about any changes that we might make to improve the Index. The suggestions can be about the location of oil reserves and the countries with access to them, or they can be general suggestions about how the Index can be improved.
