Marxist-Leninist-Maoist thought is only compatible with Buddhism is you get rid of Marxist (anti-Sprit, emphasis on industrialisation and directly opposed to any "religious socialism"), Leninist (dictatorial, even more anti-Sprit and against religious socialism) and most of Mao. The Cultural Revolution and re-education schemes where aimed directly at removing traditional Asia spiritual thought from all soceity, just read anything written by a re-educated Buddhist turned Communist. I'd suggest From Emperor to Citizen (and reread the Communist Manifesto while your at it). The idea that Mao only disapproved of Buddhism in order to get at Tibet is plain stupid.
I agree. I think there are elements of Buddhism that have similarities to socialism or more still to anarchism (I'd say the same things of Jainism as well) however seeing links between any type of religious or faith belief and the history of Marxist-Leninist movements and states just doesn't work.
Gesar, it is the judgement of the Party cell that your attachment to Buddhism is a reactionary, pro-western liberal counter-revolutionary one. Your cores are doubled and you must produce a self-criticism or further punishments will follow.
Haha. I'd like to point out that when I label myself as a Buddhist, I mean culturally and indentity-wise, because I was raised in that tradition. I also agree with Buddhist ethics and the basic teachings of Siddhartha, but as I just said, it's more of a cultural attachment. With regards to spiritual matters, I'm more of a pseudo-existenialist atheist/agnostic.
