Every politician that gets to the top of their country tends to have lingered in opposition and waited to play on disaffection with the ruling party to play the "Change" card.
Democracy is choreographed, it's all about sound-bites, shaking hands with people and being as wafer-thin possible when it comes to real personality or substance, as they're effectively a celebrity. The majority of people don't care about what happens and just go for the pretty pictures; the only way to stop these set-ups is to get people interested enough to challenge them. It's a very self-satisfying time to be a cynic.
At least, in the case of the UK, with the BNP getting seats, people might actually become more interested and challenge these charades in a way besides reactionary eggs and flour. No point making those you stand against seem like the victims...
What is that weird
