There has not been socialism in Europe since 1991.

That's just plain false, plenty of European countries have active socialist parties and the socialist party is currently ruling in Spain (first example off the top of my head but I'm sure there're more).

Calling yourself socialist doesn't make you socialist.

Social Democracy is not socialism. Spain's PSOE is Center-Left Party, not socialist. There is no European country that has socialist rule. (Well, I'm not 100% sure about all the new eastern countries...)

I guess someone had to ask this or it wouldn't be an interesting debate: And what is wrong with socialism?

An American saying that? I'm truly shocked. But anyhow, everybody, hold your thoughts, as the thread indicates, only two are obviously allowed to debate here. Give them some time and space folks. Come on, behind the line. Move it, move it, move it!

You can call yourself whatever you want, the new leftist thing is to call yourself "social democrats", the truth is that they want to go as far as possible without completelely getting rid if the market.

And yeah, PresM, I think all European countries have socialized healthcare (I might be wrong, I'm not 100% sure).
