Nationstates 2

Hey, anyone remember Nationstates 2? You know, how it was going to be the next big thing and such?

It's shutting down July 1st after less than nine months running. Nationstates 1 continues to thrive.

It was better as a concept we all dreamed of.

Like silly old communism. The problem with NS is the fact that is seems widely commercialized. All its users distant. Very impersonal, unlike particracy, a game I will never abandon, until the time I grow up though...:P

Aw. I first played NS when there were only like four UN Resolutions. I tried my best to like NS2, but I think what Max Barry said is right. Rather than make an awesome game and then think about possible ways to make money, Jolt seemed to start from the basis of 'how can we insert lots of money making features' on a shell of a game.

Jolt do seem to be wankers. Apparently their new game based on Utopia, they promised there'd be no 'pay to win' features ages ago. I've signed up, it's basically all about pay to win.

I can't see that it's a very good business model, myself. By encouraging players to pay for advantages over other players, you imbalance the game. People will leave, and the only people left will be the people who pay to beat other people (rather than play fairly). The game will then be balanced, but all these people will leave because they've lost their advantage.

See here. This guy obviously doesn't realise that the reason he's so far behind, despite playing properly, is because he hasn't paid a fortune to make himself more powerful, probably.

Jolt business is dominated by a bunch of cunts who know nothing better than income levels.

Screw it, why bother anyway?

Annoyingly I'm finding their new Utopia (although Barry's right, it's nothing like the real Utopia) quite addictive. It's a shame, it seems like it could be a pretty good game, but it's obvious you're going to have to pay to compete. I'd prefer it if they just charged like $4 a month, or had features you could pay for that had no actual affect on gameplay.
