First Topic! North Korean Missile launch..

Postby AdJeCtIv3 » Mon Apr 06, 2009 1:51 pm

Well, first post other than Wouter's welcome.

Thoughts on the Missile launch? Everyone seems to be turning pale because a failed missile test went off.

North Korea is perhaps the worst country to have WMDs. Its leadership is unstable and unpredictable. Even the Chinese are starting to realise this. But at the end of the day, what can we do? North Korea is protected by China, so unless they do something, our hands are tied. Because we do not want a war with China. Perhaps a possible solution would be to try and cooperate with the Chinese to assasinate Kim or have the military launch a coup.

Just leave North Korea alone and let them puff out their chest as much as they want. No one trusts them, they have no real allies/friends. Its time for CNN and other news networks to stop giving NK the attention they want so bad.

I say at least the missile didn't hurt anyone and the government will have to fall eventually, all governments fall.

It's an interest topic. According to NORAD, it was unsuccessful, so that's something to be happy about. It definitely is worrisome. I personally don't like Obama's reaction to it, I think he should be a bit tougher on them but let's see what happens when the Security Council convenes again.

Neither the US nor China want to fight each other. The world will literally fall into a great depression let alone the Chinese financial system's fall. No war will occur between the US and China. And I don't know what consideration has been given to military intervention in North Korea. It's certainly a possibility that the US and some NATO allies will intervene.

Russia said it was successful.

That would be a rather nasty WWIII, wouldn't it.

In Soviet Russia, missile launches you!

Sorry...had to say that.

I like hearing North Korea do all this stuff, it cracks me up, even though their leader's crazy. I mean, just look at his hair, it's all over the place. They'll never really do anything cos China won't give them a blank check and without that then they're powerless.

Did you know that their state religion is worship of Kim Il Jong? Or something like that anyhow. The guy's full of himself. I feel bad for the people. Their time will come.

North Korea should not be underestimated or marginalized.

They have the largest standing army in the world, and due to colossal amounts of money they dump into it (it seems to be just about all of their GDP) they're not as poorly-equipped as we assume. Now, they have WMDs and the capacity to launch them short ranges. North Korea is rotting away from the inside and everybody knows it, which is precisely why they are investing so greatly in their army. They run many parallels to the Soviet Union after the Brezhnev stagnation, except that they are both far worse and more internally/politically fucked-up than the Soviet Union and they seem determined to run the opposite course the Soviet Union ultimately chose. The Soviet leadership could see as clear as day that their country was slipping from their fingers, and the Kremlin was bitterly divided between those who sought to reunite the country by massive crackdowns and launching military campaigns (even that campaign was WWIII) and those who sought to let the rotting come peacefully and quietly try to retain as much power as they reasonably could. The Soviet Union came very close to going the former route, if the coup against Gorbachev had succeeded history today might be very different. North Korea is currently facing a very similar dilemma, but they seem far more likely than the Soviet Union to go the former route.

Neither the US nor China want to fight each other, but if there is going to be a true WWIII in our time either North Korea or Taiwan is going to be the flashpoint, and even if North Korea ultimately can't blow up into WWIII it still has the capacity to bring about an actual international crisis not paralleled since the war in Vietnam or the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.

Everyone knows Putin protects Russia, Chuck Norris the U.S.A, and a army of super powered Kung Fu Warriors China. So the chances of WW III lasting long are slim to nil.
