Pirates of the sea was funny. So as Verka Serduchka, I still remember the song. Hilarious

Can anyone from Europe explain what Eurovision is? I've heard about it but I'd rather be told what it is sort-kinda-about?

It is an annual song contest that is held on previous years winner. There is two semi finals, from each semi final ten of the participants qualify to final and 5 countries(UK,France,Germany,Spain,Italy) and the host goes directly to final.

How to get points?

It involves televoting and jury votes.

Eurovision, or to be correct, the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) is an annual song contest were one participant from all countries of Europe (and Israel and Turkey, but sadly not the Vatican :( ) can participate. The country that wins will host the next year's contest (which will be in Sweden, this year). The winner is decided trough direct positional voting system, though for obvious reasons you are not allowed to vote for your own country.

Nah, not really, we have our own national variant of Idol here as well. More like an all-european Miss America for singers, I guess.

Kind of, pointing is a little bit different. Each country gives several points (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,10,12(famously douze point)), points were given like this
Country A's jury gives 1 point to Country B
And The Public gave Country B 10 points and in total they have 11 points then
Every countries total points added and top ten country gets the points

Maybe we should have a Eurovision Party on this forum, where we all post how we scored the different entries, then total up the points and see who got the most.
