Generic football thread

Postby MichaelReilly » Wed May 22, 2013 1:39 pm

Why is there no thread dedicated to football, my one true love?

I demand the creation of such a thread to discuss in intricate detail the best position Hamilton Accies' Louis Longridge plays on the midfield; the prices of tickets in Mongolian Second Division and how many times this year England will lose.

Considering I support a Scottish team in the Scottish League, I don't think I have the greatest authority to discuss these things, but this thread is the place to do it.

Granted, it's a stupid time to start it, with it being right at the end of the European season, but there are still a few games to look forward to:

25 May; European Cup final: Borussia Dortmund v Bayern Munich
26 May; Scottish Cup final: Hibernian v Celtic
1 June; DFB-Pokal final: Bayern Munich v VfB Stuttgart
Down with this sort of thing

Why would they hate modern football? Does it have to do with the fact foreign players are taking spots over home grown players?

Considering City's move, it wouldn't surprise me if United set-up their own American franchise.
I doubt they'd pick New York to directly challenge City though. Seems too risky.

NY already has the Red Bulls (which have done NOTHING to gain a following btw) so who knows maybe 3 teams would actually work.

"Major League Soccer on Tuesday unveiled its long awaited 20th franchise, called New York City FC, which will be financed by the owner of English Premier League's Manchester City FC and the Yankees."

Oh dear. Manchester City are becoming more and more out-of-touch... Shame on them.

This is stupid, MLS should be expanded more elsewhere before doubling up within single cities. Even more annoying though, is how out of nowhere NYC FC has been thought up and given all the attention. For awhile now New York Cosmos have been functional a minor club and aspired to eventually join MLS. I guess since a mass of money has been funneled in backing NYC FC, Cosmos is irrelevant, despite their years of presence, and not to mention the history behind their club.

NYC FC is a joke and a disgusting product. And why the hell are the Yankees involved, stay to your crappy sport and leave soccer alone.

In other news, I received a call today from my supporters club saying I've got a ticket for the Scottish cup final. Ohh yaaa.
