That said, I'm a 'liberal socialist' with a hint of conservatism on certain issues, particularly those relating to meritocracy (ex. affirmative action). On the point of meritocracy, that is probably the biggest influence on my conservative leanings. Another example: quite contrasted to Democrats/progressives, while I support free university, I don't believe everyone should go; some/many are better served by technical school and preparation for the trades.
In addition to a meritocratic, capitalist-based socialism, I've also taken interest in the idea of soft paternalism. I don't use the label (as of yet, still learning about it), but it seems to have many commonalities with my ideology And views.
