Jeb Bush is now Pro-LBGT Rights

Postby CanadianEh » Fri Jul 17, 2015 4:47 pm

If you read this article Jeb Bush defends the Supreme Court ruling for Same-Sex marriage and he also asks states to ratify their own Non-Discrimination Laws, he also asks states not to adopt religious freedom laws because it's not right to deny service. He also talks about the need for laws to mandate businesses to pay men and women equally.

I just have to say I'm becoming more and more comfortable if Jeb Bush becomes President of the US, he has turned into my favourite Republican candidate.

Honestly, if Jeb Bush were to become President, it wouldn't be the end of the world. And I say this as a Sanders supporter and as someone at the "far-left" of American politics.

A lot of the harshest attacks on him are purely because he's a Bush. Though he also got hit hard for his "people need to work more" comments. Objectively, I don't think his intent was, "hey, you need to work 50 or 60 hours a week," rather it was directed at underemployment and impacts of ACA regulations. Nonetheless, he got a firestorm of negative publicity for the statement.

In this GOP field, Bush is, in my opinion, one of the more "likable" characters. I will say, it might not be the best timing for him to find this pro-LGBT position; he still needs to beat the crazies and win over extreme primary voters. But, I suppose it shows even more good of his character in that he would reveal this position at a time like this. It's definitely a position that will serve him well if he's in the general election, though I'm sure most gays will still go Democrat.

Doesn't really seem like much, he's made a couple of non-committal statements which don't really indicate much, indeed he's walking a similar line to Putin on the issue. On marriage he's not indicating that he supports it either, just that the issue is settled.

Anyway, it's just general political weathervane-ing it really doesn't signify much at all, I don't believe that he's changed overnight...

I'd take Jeb Bush over Hillary Clinton.
Not a fan of Sanders. He's just not Left enough.

Well it's a step forward from 20 years ago when he was calling gay people parasites and pedophiles.... :?
He has apologized for those statements many times now though.

Good ol' US of A is turning into an Italian republic, several powerful families fighting over the big seat.

Perhaps this is a sign that it will emerge into a golden age of art and culture.

Right?

Personally I'd have though that he'd be unelectable having made such statements so recently...

20 years = so recently? More recently than that, Hillary Clinton was totally against same-sex marriage.
