A tricky question to answer. I voted for Lyndon Johnson, mainly on account of the progress he made in terms of civil rights and developing the welfare state.

However, Johnson is also arguably the worst President on the list, on account of the Vietnam disaster.

Kennedy is probably the best on the list, although it just cuts short before you get what scholars would consider the truly great ones of the 20th century; Eisenhower, Roosevelt etc.
Down with this sort of thing

I would have voted Roosevelt, if he'd been on the list.

Yeah, it's difficult to argue against the premise that he was the greatest president since Lincoln.

The rough list I would present, without a massive knowledge of US history would be something like:

1. Lincoln
2. Washington
3. Roosevelt

Wartime leaders of countries are the ones who are always considered the greatest. One would be hard-pushed not to consider Churchill the greatest Prime Minister, regardless of your political hue.

I agree, although I think most historians would rate Churchill less highly for his 1951-55 peacetime Premiership

I think most can agree Nixon is the worst on the list, though Johnson probably isn't far behind for some.

Nixon is another interesting one. To be fair, he did have his achievements, like beginning the relationship with China and helping to soothe the Cold War...but his presidency will be forever marred by Watergate.

What I want to know is; who voted Carter?

If we were voting for the person who had the best career after being President, then Carter might be worthy of a vote. By all accounts, he's done all sorts of worthy things since leaving office.

I voted for LBJ too, same reasons. Also believe that the Vietnam disaster was, at that point, inevitable because it was set in motion before his presidency.
