I'm more of a Presidential type. I like when politicians get more of an incentive to actually go out and engage people and tackle ideas about entrenched career politicians. I'd like to combine with constitutional monarchy and have a directly elected prime minister here in Sweden... not that that's ever likely to happen ofc.

i picked parliamentary. I think it's more likely to produce the kind of technocratic government I would favour. Presidentialism is too susceptible to populism and anti-elitism, both enemies of technocracy.

Presidential is better for a small country. Parliamentary is better for a big country. I am American so I picked Presidential.

How about a presidential republic without a parliament, or in other words a directly elected president that holds legislative as well as executive power? (Within the boundaries of a constitution and with an independent judiciary, yada yada.) This would always produce a strong, efficient government, but I can easily see such a president refusing to step down, and who would stop him?

To be honest, I have no opinion on this. There are advantages and disadvantages with both. Generally a presidential system (with an independent legislature) leads to more division of powers, which tends to block change from happening. This is good when the people are being stupid, but its a nuissance when the people have good ideas that take forever to push through.
On the other hand, there are lots of ways to prevent parliamentary systems from producing strong majority governments as well, such as having proportional representation.

@Jess: I like your sense of humor.
