Grand Imam's Daughter Married to Jakanian Sultan

Image
Jesmin Juhndrsme Grakkrt, daughter of Grand Imam Juhn Juhnsrmko Grakkrt and new Sultana of Jakania, in her bridal attire.

Tedrossia, New Cobura, Jakania, March 4097- Jesmin Juhndrsme Grakkrt, the fourth daughter of Grand Imam Juhn Juhnsrmko Grakkrt, was married to Sultan Umar II of Jakania last week. Mnistr for Foreign Affairs Husn Camlsrmko Grakkrt described the wedding as "a glorious affair to bring our two nations together."

As part of her dowry, two dozen elite Grakkrt clan warriors have volunteered to join the Sultan's Royal Guard. The sultan, impressed by the discipline and skill of the warriors, has already begun to send advertisements to recruit more Jelbek warriors for the Guard. "We are in the process of drafting a treaty to formalize this arrangement," Camlsrmko Grakkrt stated.

Rumors have surfaced that the communist presence in Deltaria precipitated the marriage. Camlsrmko Grakkrt declined to name any specific threat, but stated that "Regional instability has prompted us to seek closer relations with our fellow Ahmadi nations."

Further rumors have arisen that the Razamid dynasty will soon change its method of succession from its current form of agnatic seniority to one based on primogeniture. This will allow the Sultana's offspring to inherit the throne on their father's death. Juhnsrmko Grakkrt denied that this was a factor in the decision to marry his daughter to the Sultan. "I am less interested in my grandchildren inheriting a foreign throne than I am in the forming of ties with other nations in these uncertain times," he said.

JARP Delegation to OAC General Assembly Announced

Image
Koistrhosí Jusuvdrsme Grakkrt, daughter of Mnistr for Justice Jusuv Grzkaisrmko Grakkrt, is the Grakkrt Clan's delegate to the General Assembly of the OAC.

Suadjahrltajezstad, Baniray, April 4097- The Jelbék Ám'ádsrlji Rekvaknsé Prta, a founding party of the Organization of Ahmadi Cooperation, recently announced its delegation to that organization's general assembly. By the decision of the party, the three founding clans of the JARP- Clan Grakkrt, Clan Heijikai, and Clan Ujmokai, will each have one delegate in the OAC's general assembly. The inaugural members will be Koistrhosí Jusuvdrsme Grakkrt, Sedrijodín Hezekaisrmko Heijikai, and Suadjasrl Krsyijkaisrmko Ujmokai.

Some party hardliners balked at the inclusion of Jusuvdrsme Grakkrt, the daughter of Mnistr for Justice Jusuv Grzkaisrmko Grakkrt, as the Grakkrt clan's delegate on account of her sex and of her young age, but Grand Imam Juhn Juhnsrmko Grakkrt was quick to silence them. "Koistrhosí is a model exemplar of the Ahmadi faith. She will serve the JARP, and Jelbania as a whole, well in her new position."

Government Buildings in Suadjahrltajezstad Completed- Government Set to Move In

Image
The new Hrltaj building in Suadjahrltajezstad.

Suadjahrltajezstad, Baniray, June 4097- Two and a half years after the plans for the new capital were unveiled, the new government buildings in Suadjahrltajezstad have been completed and are ready to serve their intended purpose. The Grand Imam has already taken up residence in the palace, and the Hrltaj is beginning to make the move, with the National Courts set to follow in the next months. The Hrltaj building in particular is larger than the building that had previously served that purpose in Ám'ádjezstad (formerly Baofluz), and the JARP has already introduced legislation that would nearly quadruple the membership of the legislative body. Jusuv Jlénsrmko Jrkanyr, Mnistr for Internal Affairs, states that the increase in the size is necessary to better accomodate Jelbania's large population, but that it won't go into effect until the next elections, currently scheduled for February 4103.

At Least Ten Dead, Dozens Arrested in Hosian Riots

Image
Hosian protesters occupy a main street in Amsadomura. Minutes later, the protest turned violent.

Amsadomura, Turadrad, March 4098- Protests in Amsadomura by members of Jelbania's sizable Hosian minority turned violent yesterday as police were called in to clear the streets. At least ten people were killed in the ensuing melee, two of whom were members of the Amsadomura police force. Dozens of protesters were arrested. Grand Imam Juhn Juhnsrmko Grakkrt called the incident "a testament to the barbarism of the infidels."

Despite the government's best efforts at "Ahmadizing" the nation, Jelbania is still home to some twenty-five million Hosians, around a quarter of the nation's population, many of whom are descendants of Hosians exiled from Beiteynu generations ago. The Hosian population is heavily concentrated in Turadrad and Nemawar, and in southern Perimor near the Deltarian border. The city of Amsadomura is estimated to be approximately fifty percent Hosian. While Jelbanian law requires that all citizens register their religion and convert to the Ahmadi faith, in practice this requirement is not actively enforced as the government lacks the manpower to root out nonbelievers.

In the aftermath of the riots, Amsadomura was placed under martial law. A city-wide curfew is in effect, barring all non-essential personnel from being outside after dark.

Jelbania Campaigns for World Congress Security Council
Son of Foreign Mnistr Kicks Off "Jelbania for Seat B" Campaign

Image
Isa Husnsrmko Grakkrt, son of Foreign Mnistr Husn Camlsrmko Grakkrt, gives a press conference in Ám'ádjezstad supporting Jelbania's bid for the Security Council.

Suadjahrltajezstad, Baniray, July 4103- Isa Husnsmrko Grakkrt, the son of Mnistr for Foreign Affairs Husn Camlsrmko Grakkrt, addressed the Hrltaj yesterday announcing that he would begin actively campaigning for Seat B on the World Congress Security Council on Jelbania's behalf. Hldjezim'm Juhn Juhnsrmko Grakkrt has announced that should Jelbania be elected to the seat, Husnsrmko Grakkrt would be his representative to the Security Council.

"Our primary concern is maintaining peace, primarily for the continent of Majatra," Husnsrmko Grakkrt said. "Majatran peace is peace for the Ahmadi people. Jelbania already has the backing of several Majatran nations, and they display great confidence in our ability to achieve this. But there is plenty of work to do if we are to win the seat."

Foreign Mnistr Camlsrmko Grakkrt has already begun Jelbania's campaign for the seat, introducing the Treaty of Ahmadi Solidarity in the World Congress to other Ahmadi nations, and contacting several other nations in support of Jelbania's bid. In the future, Husnsrmko Grakkrt will take on a bigger role in the campaign, campaigning not only in support of Jelbania's bid, but also for the bid of fellow Ahmadi nation Talmoria for Seat D.

After the address to the Hrltaj, Husnsmrko Grakkrt gave a press conference in nearby Ám'ádjezstad in which he responded to Beiteynu's recent negative campaign against Jelbania. "The Conservative Yeudish Party of Beiteynu is in no position to accuse our government of religious radicalism," Husnsrmko Grakkrt stated. 'They have a consistent record of severely oppressing non-Yeudish citizens, segregating them, and shutting themselves off to the rest of the world. Our campaign is not based on religious fundamentalism, but on peace and security for Majatra and the world at large."

Jelbék Hldjezim'm Dead at 79
Liberal Faction of JARP Seizes Control, Ousts Several Cabinet Ministers

Image
Grakkrt clansmen carry the Hldjezim'm's coffin through the streets of Ám'ádjezstad.

Ám'ádjezstad, Perimor, January 4104- Juhn Juhnsrmko Grakkrt, Grand Imam of Jelbania, passed away in his sleep last week at the age of 79. The Grakkrt clan leader, who founded the Jelbanian Ahmadi Republican Party, has been at the head of Jelbania's government since the establishment of the Ahmadi Republic in 4089. His tenure has seen the overthrow of the H'an monarchy, the introduction of strict Ahmadi law in Jelbania, the building of a new capital at Suadjahrltajezstad, the beginnings of an effort to modernize Jelbanian society, the marriage of his daughter to the Jakanian Sultan, the founding of the Organization for Ahmadi Cooperation, and the beginning of Jelbania's campaign for a seat on the World Congress Security Council.

Juhnsrmko Grakkrt left no clear successor for his office, and the Hrltaj debated for several days before appointing Jago Cavrsrmko Ujmokai, a member of the Hrltaj for Turadrad perceived to be on the more liberal wing of the party. At the same time, the Hrltaj voted to oust Mnistr for Finance Wrnkai Kez'iknzsrmko Grakkrt,
Mnistr for Internal Affairs Jusuv Jlénsrmko Jrkanyr, Mnistr for Infrastructure and Transport Halíd Slejmansrmko Grakkrt, and Mnistr for Health and Social Services Sadm Bákhusnsrmko Obmé, replacing them with more liberal members.

Lín Hydwaskaidrsme Heijikai, Mnistr for Education and Culture, said that the introduction of more liberal Mnistrs to the government was done in response to Jelbania's bid for Seat B on the Security Council and mounting criticism of the JARP government from nations such as Beiteynu, Hutori, and Baltusia. "The prevailing climate in the Hrltaj is that our government must moderate itself to appeal to other nations," she said. "Much of the legislation brought on by the JARP leadership does not appeal to many countries outside of the Ahmadi world. To be a player in international politics, we must gain the trust and support of more nations."

Hydwaskaidrsme Heijikai added that she was also targetted to be ousted by some members of the liberal faction of the Hrltaj, but she was spared largely due to her sex. "I guess in modern Jelbania, being a female in my position does have its advantages. The Hrltaj did not wish to be seen ousting a female Mnistr for fear that they might be criticized as being sexist."

Jelbania currently enjoys a sizable lead in the voting for Seat B on the Council, having ten votes, compared to five for Vanuku, four each for Deltaria and Istalia, and three for Zardugal. Jelbania for Seat B chairman Isa Husnsrmko Grakkrt issued only a brief statement in response for requests for an interview, stating only "I am deeply saddened by the death of our dear Hldjezim'm, but I assure you that the Jelbania for Seat B campaign is not losing any momentum. In the coming days, we will expand our campaign into new territory."

Cavrsrmko Ujmokai Government Enacts Reforms

Image
Newly elected Hldjezim'm Jago Cavrsrmko Ujmokai delivers his first speech to the Hrltaj.

Suadjahrltajezstad, Baniray, October 4104- As a result of the elections called for by the Hrltaj in response to the death of Hldjezim'm Juhn Juhnsrmko Grakkrt, reformist legislator Jago Cavrsrmko Ujmokai, of the Ujmokai clan who helped to found the JARP in 4089, was formally elected to the nation's highest office. He has immediately set off to work, introducing reforms to the Hrltaj that he hopes will improve Jelbania's standing in the international community. Such reforms include a bill to ban slavery, a practice which has existed in Jelbania from time immemorial, and several rollbacks of legislation enacted by the Juhnsrmko Grakkrt regime.

When the ban on slavery is enacted (it is expected to pass next June), Jelbania will become the last nation in the world to end this practice, although rumors abound that it may be reintroduced in Likatonia. Malivia's ban on slavery passed in March.

It is no secret that Cavrsrmko Ujmokai's ascension to the head of the JARP was precipitated by international criticism of the Jelbanian government amidst its bid to become an inaugural member of the World Congress Security Council. Harsh criticism by officials in several nations, including Beiteynu, Hutori, Baltusia, and Zardugal, has caused the ruling Ahmadist party to rethink its policies in several key areas. The Cavrsrmko Ujmokai government hopes that the proposed reforms will appease the critics and facilitate the building of trust between nations.

"It is important that, as a nation emerging into the realm of international politics, we build and maintain trust and respect between ourselves and other nations," Camlsrmko Ujmokai said in his inaugural address. "It is much harder to build such trust and respect with outdated and barbaric laws."

With the death of Juhnsrmko Grakkrt and the subsequent ouster of four conservative Cabinet Mnistrs, the influence of the Grakkrt clan in the nation's politics is beginning to wane. Whereas members of the Grakkrt clan held six of the thirteen Cabinet posts in the old government (including the Hldjezim'm, who chairs the Cabinet), they now hold only four. Meanwhile the Ujmokai clan went from three Cabinet posts to five (including the Hldjezim'm), and the other founding clan of the JARP, Clan Heijikai, went from one Cabinet post to three (including the influential Mnistrstvos of Internal Affairs and Finance). The remaining Mnistrstvo is held by Mustav Abdlásrmko Akedjrka, Mnistr for Defense.

Husnsrmko Grakkrt: Kalistan's Vote Switch a "Betrayal."

Image
Isa Husnsrmko Grakkrt, Chairman of Jelbania for Seat B, speaks about Kalistan's vote switch.

Suadjahrltajezstad, Baniray, April 4109- Isa Husnsrmko Grakkrt, Chairman of Jelbania for Seat B, gave a press conference in response to Kalistan's decision to switch its Security Council Vote to Istalia. Prior to the switch, Kalistan was one of the first nations outside of the Ahmadi bloc to support Jelbania's bid. In return, the Organization of Ahmadi Cooperation had endorsed Kalistan's bid for the Seleyan seat (Seat C) on the council.

"It's a betrayal, pure and simple," Husnsrmko Grakkrt said. "The OAC's early support for Kalistan gave them a commanding lead early in the voting, discouraging potential competitors from running their own campaigns and all but guaranteeing them the seat. Now, at the eleventh hour and with Seat B still very much at stake, the Socialist government of Kalistan, under the guise of supporting democracy when they themselves outmaneuvered all competition and turned their own country into a one-party state, switches their vote to Istalia instead. As you all know, the Istalian campaign was built on deceit, fear-mongering, and anti-Ahmadi prejudice. It is clear now that Kalistan is prepared to endorse such tactics to increase their own standing in the international community. Their behavior is disgraceful, to say the least."

Asked if the OAC was contemplating some sort of punitive action against Kalistan, Husnsrmko Grakkrt declined to comment, citing the fact that he does not sit in on OAC meetings. Husnsrmko Grakkrt's father, Foreign Mnistr Husn Camlsrmko Grakkrt, has already introduced a bill to the Hrltaj which would switch Jelbania's vote for Seat C from Kalistan to Valruzia. Although Kalistan has an overwhelming lead that will very likely hold until the end of the voting period, the elder Grakkrt said in a separate press conference, "Kalistan claims to be standing on their principles, so we are standing on ours. Our government doesn't support traitors."

Shlajkai IV Restored
September 8, 4166

Shlajkai IV has been restored to the wolf's throne , more than 76 years after being deposed at the age of 7. The H'an was deposed by the Ahmadist regime of the Grakkrt clan, strangely enough the same clan which helped restore him to office. His restoration is thanks to his eldest son H'ansrmko (Prince) Jeiri who intrigued with several power players to restore his father. The restoration ended a seven month long war between the royalists and the republicans who had ousted H'an Heijinoju (r. 4153-4165), a second cousin of the new H'an. H'ansrmko Jeiri took control of the royalist forces during the war and in time managed to convince the royalists that it was time to restore the senior line of the Jeztri royal clan instead of restoring the ineffectual Heijinoju to the throne. Upon retaking Baofluz in September 4166, the H'ansrmko proclaimed his father H'an and took control of the restored Khanate

Image
Shlajkai IV H'an

Much like eight decades ago, Shlajkai IV finds himself dominated by another person. Back then as an infant, his grandmother Hatun Dowager Caterina Volkova has ruled the Khanate in his name, now in his dotage, it is his son H'ansrmko Jeiri who as Wrntusrljikai presides over the Government. The H'ansrmko's stated intention to centralise power and stabilise the Khanate is likely to agitate the royal clan's many enemies, particularly the powerful Vrn clan of the south west. The Jeztri's brutal conduct in the 4043-4051 civil war earned them many new enemies and the clan was not exactly popular given its long history of treachery.

Capital Moved to Jeztridomura
April 16, 4169

Image
Jeztridomura

The Government has declared the south-eastern town of Jeztridomura to be the new capital of the Khanate. Tens of thousands of civil servants are in the process of being dragged south from Baofluz, against their will to the new capital where they will reside in gers and yurts in the outskirts of the small town. Jeztridomura is close to the "secret" seat of the Jeztri clan, a small settlement open only to members of the clan where the Jeztri Bek holds court. The move is thought to be an attempt to create distance between the Jeztris and the restive western clans who roam too close to Baofluz for the Jeztris' comfort. Other claim that the clan which is notoriously able in the magical arts has returned to be close to where its magic is strongest.

H'ansrmko Visits Deltaria

Shortly after the relocation, H'ansrmko Jeiri the Wrntusrljikai and several senior Mnistrs, businesspeople and other notables drove across the Jelbanian-Deltarian border to Stefanstu the Deltarian capital. There they were welcomed on a two day state visit by Predšedni Riso Medved and other leaders of the communist/socialist regime. The H'ansrmko declared his nation's intentions to maintain and improve ties despite the obvious differences in policy. Deltaria helped the Jeztri clan gain control of the Khanate a century ago. A joint communique condemning imperialism and calling for greater trade ties was issued.

Jelbania Adopts Isolationism
August 10, 4173

H’an Shlajkai IV has declared the “National Shield” policy to be in operation following several international confrontations and quarrels, most prominently with Zardugal, Istalia and Luthori which the Khan called “imperialist, depraved and rude”. The move will see the Khanate adopt a strictly isolationist policy, focused on a massive defence build up and the development of an autarkic economy. Several senior Mnistrs including the H'ansrmko are thought to be cool on this policy but have been sidelined by the 91 year old rejuvinated H'an who for once is displaying a healthy appetite for governing the country.

Image
The H'an and his heir presumptive H'ansrmko Jeiri (front centre)

The Khanate has dismissed all foreign diplomats, except for some Deltarian ones and has recalled virtually all its diplomats. Foreign trade and immigration are to be banned entirely and any caught crossing the borders into the Khanate will be summarily executed. It is not entirely why this policy has been adopted, some believe that the aged H’an’s recent recovery from a serious illness has something to do with it. The new policy is thought to be influenced by the Grand Shaman Azi Trisrmko Jeztri whose unrivalled knowledge of traditional medicine is thought to have played a significant part in the H’an’s recovery. The Grand Shaman is known to be a vociferous opponent of foreign influence and institutions and has warned that ancestral spirits are deeply unsettled by modernisation.
