NGPoL Internal Struggle Explained
May 21, 4253
4252 was a turbulent year for the nation following an internal struggle within the New Green Party of Lodamun. In February, it was reported that the next party elections that were scheduled for August 4253 could completely change the party after a couple conservative and capitalist faction leaders of the party announced platforms to entirely reform the party's name and direction. Later in the month, the party's delegates at the NGPoL HQ overwhelmingly voted(137-21-7) to hold the snap party elections right away.
First Round
----------
Joseph Mideen 46 votes 27.9%*
Marcy Casel 46 votes 27.9%*
Justin Kelsey 39 votes 23.6%
Tex Andrews 34 votes 20.6%
Party Deputy Joesph Mideen and former Party Deputy Marcy Casel had advanced to the second round, eliminating the chance of the drastic party reform of the other two candidates, to the delight of much of the party.
Second Round
----------
Joesph Mideen 83 votes 50.3%
Marcy Casel 82 votes 49.7%
It was an extremely close second round, but Mideen won the vote to advance to the final round. This wasn't the first time such a close vote occurred; such a similar result in the second round happened in the 4243 elections as well. Casel had also lost to Mideen in the second rounds in multiple party elections in the past as well and this only made her more aggitated.
Final Round
----------
Joesph Mideen 89 votes 53.9%*
Rain Baxtor(I) 76 votes 46.1%
Joesph had won the Party Chair against incumbent Rain Baxtor, after losing to Baxtor for the chair for nearly two decades. Having won the chair, Mideen also noted the resignation of then-Lodamun President Takon and expressed intent for the nomination as his successor. Casel did not take this very well and she challenged Mideen for the presidency, adding that she did not accept the party election results. The party was split on her refusal as well as who should have the nomination of President, causing an internal struggle within the party that threatened the succession to the presidency. Outgoing President Takon had intervened and called for an investigation on the second round results to solve this struggle. The party, as well as the Presidium, had high respect for Takon and overwhelmingly supported this. The party had suspended Mideen from being party chair and a candidate for the Presidency, and Rain Baxtor was to stay on board as Chairman until the investigation was concluded. Later in the year, Baxtor had presented the Presidium with the nomination of Joseph Mideen for President, assuming the investigation and the chaos over the snap election would be cleared by the time the new cabinet was formed. This did not happen by that time and when the new cabinet had passed in December, the position of President of Lodamun was vacant. The Vice President nominee, LNC's Zouzou Ndour, had served as acting president until the issue with the presidency was solved.
On February 28th, 4253, the investigation had concluded and it appeared the election results were legitimate. Casel, having finally accepting the results after this investigation, withdrew from her challenge for the presidency. The internal struggle had finally ended and Mideen was approved by the party to be the chairman, as well as accepted for the presidential nomination. On March 2nd, 54 year-old Joesph Mideen was inaugrated as the new President of the 2nd Democratic Republic of Lodamun, with Zouzou Ndour as Vice President. Casel, having been the runner up to Mideen in the elections, is once again the Party Deputy.
