The Two Survivors locked in Electoral Struggle

- In depth analysis of the upcoming election
- Who will win and why
- Why LTE thinks a GPLK government is the best for a sustainable country

Image
The City of Deims, or for that matter, the Region of La Tondelle has never been particularly profitable for the GPLK, but could this election change that?

What a turbulent twenty years. Parties have come and gone in what feels a blink of an eye. You may be forgiven if you have long forgotten that there was once a party, back in 4234 named the Mouvement Centriste. And the other parties, whilst leaving a more distinct mark on the political landscape, have now just became figments of history. The Parti Socialiste who were twice in government. The PUF who led the controversial fascist coalition. And of course, the Parti Liberal who pulled off one of the largest electoral shocks ever.

But now, we're back where we started. The Union Populaire Democrate, facing up against the Grand Parti Libertaire de Kanjor. It was in 4233 that these two fought off for the first time, and now we are back to a straight fight between them. A lot has changed in that time. Kanjor has most certainly become a lot more right wing - with the GPLK's short majority government overhauling legislation. Even the GPLK's name has changed. How many now remember the GPLK back in their youthful days as the Parti Pragmatique Kanjor?

This time, the election will be fought on equal ground. Whereas before, the GPLK were still emerging out of the ground, they will now have the opportunity to hammer in the final nail in the UPD coffin. The UPD of course, have not been elected to government since that election back in 4233, and should the GPLK now manage to show that they are the popular vote, the days would certainly seem up for the old timers.

And that sure does seem to be the way it is heading right now. The gun laws act by the GPLK was a stroke of genius in terms of getting the electorate on their side. It is what the voters wanted to see - a conservative, yet permissive government, and that will have definitely given them a large mandate for voters whose primary concerns are those of civil rights and morality.

Furthermore, their strong military and internation positions have shown the GPLK to be competent when dealing with other nations. Many would label Kanjor, led by the GPLK, as the main reason for the Istalian Aeronaval Blockade not going ahead. They have been at the forefront of a bitter conflict within the World Congress, co-leading the anti-Istalia campaign. Yet their steadfast commitment to national sovereignty, regardless of sides, has helped show the country to be a country of principle. Therefore, you would expect many nationalists to give the GPLK their support.

Meanwhile, the UPD have continued to do what the UPD do best - be inactive. Undoubtedly, this is the worst thing that could happen for Kanjor. Should the UPD get into power, it would result in all the military and international progress made by the GPLK being sent down the drain, or at least shelved for several decades. Further to this, with little policy being introduced, nothing would happen. Since it would be impossible for the GPLK to pass legislation, Kanjor would be stuck in gridlock.

Therefore, LTE is happy to endorse the GPLK for the upcoming election. They have proven in the past that they represent the needs of all classes, through the privatisation of services, but also through the creation of safety nets for those who are not capable of keeping up with a free market. Their continual pledge to further the Income Free Zone is a core example of this. But they don't just win on economic merit alone. Their stewardship of Kanjor has seen Kanjor turn into a major player on the global stage, and has seen it grow in influence.

So their you have it. The two old birds fighting it out again. The knockout punch may surely end up coming in this election. Whilst the UPD will have you believe that they have an opportunity, and undoubtedly people shall vote for them; the truth is that a GPLK victory would signal the end of totalitarianism within Kanjor for good.

Nicolas Roussel Wins GPLK Primaries

- Promises Further Military Priority
- Says he will push solution to the Badaran Crisis by the end of his Presidency
- Critics say journalist past may get in the way

Nicolas Roussel on his way into the nomination ceremony.

The Grand Parti Libertaire de Kanjor has chosen for Nicolas Roussel to become their Presidential Nominee. In what was more of a coronation than an election, Roussel was unopposed after Ingrid Carrel decided to resign her nomination for Presidency, and no other candidate presented themselves for the candidacy. Roussel had previously run for the GPLK's nomination, but lost out to Tobie Moineau.

The former editor in chief for Les Temps Economiques, and previously before that, l'Envoi, will be quite satisfied that he decided not to run for a position within the Senate in 4247; a move that would have undoubtedly made it difficult for him to run for Presidency. It has also allowed him to remain the Editor-in-Chief at the LTE, which made him a very lucrative 2 million KRP per annum before bonuses. He has, however, announced that he would resign his position should he become the President.

This has not prevented critics from questioning whether he may still have conflicted interests within the role of President. They argue that his reputation within the media's world would be too high for him to willingly sacrifice, therefore leading to a weak President when it comes to interacting with the press, and responding to their demands.

Despite this, his words at the nomination were words of strength and purpose. He made a big deal out of the new military plans, and promised that as President he would see them brought through, and presented to the world. He said that Kanjor was ready to become a world power, and that he wanted to be at the forefront of that shift. He also mentioned the current Badaran Crisis, and said that he would arrange several Head of State Visits in the aim of ending the Badaran conflict. He too wished to visit both Istalia and Beiteynu, to see each of the positions of the two countries.

Palace relaxed about Republican challenge
25th October 4327

Château de Belfort officials were said to be unfazed by a shock legislative challenge to Roi Abélard's rule.

The challenge, made by the main opposition party in the Sénat, marks the first time since his coronation 7 years ago that hostility toward his unassailable right to reign over Kanjor has been voiced publicly. The legislation proposes to 'Restore the Republic' by holding Head of State elections, thus abolishing the monarchy and ending the law of succession by agnatic primogeniture, as well as proposing the removal of all symbols associated with the Royal Household.

A spokesperson from the Palace said

Roi Abélard and the Royal family have a special place in the hearts of the nation. They continue to dedicate every degree of mind and spirit to the task of best serving our country. The crown vehemently supports the free exchange of ideas, and so welcomes all form of political debate."

Experts claim there is little chance of Kanjor becoming a Republic any time soon, with the Crown's own Parti de Kanjor et La Tondelle holding an absolute majority in the Sénat. Elections are to be held next year however and so it remains to be seen how the government and the military will react in the long term.

For now all officials are standing firmly behind Roi Abélard. The Premier Ministre, Renaud Dupond, ended his address to the Sénat last night by reminding all subjects of the old Republic's inglorious past.

Let us remind the chamber of the old, greedy, decedent Republic the opposition is so eager to restore. It was a Republic which closed the gates on thousands of refugees fleeing across the border from Rildanor, a Republic which racked up a 1 billion KRP annual deficit whilst leaving millions to suffer the indignity of poverty, a Republic which sought to separate our people from their Lord.

Where the old Republic failed, our new Kingdom has succeeded.

Election Result Marred By Claims Of Foreign Meddling
5th October 4328

-Pro Monarchy Government Returned to Office
-PM holds Press Conference late last night to accuse Lourenne of interfering in election campaign
-Security Services intercept documents on 'Opération Pro-Republic' disclosing Lourenne's designs to unseat Kanjorenne monarchy

Victory celebrations were cut short at Parti de Kanjor et La Tondelle headquarters as PM Renaud Dupond ramped up the rhetoric on allegations of foreign influence on Kanjor's election. The PM revealed the security services had uncovered credible evidence suggesting that the government of Lourenne sought to influence the outcome of the legislative elections and to destabilise the Kanjorenne political system.

PM Dupond revealed the existence of an explosive document written by the administration in Lourenne and known as Opération Pro-Republic. The proposal, signed by Lourenne PM Charlotte Hernoire-Gignac and dated August this year, approved ' higher spending on Foreign Affairs' in order to ensure Kanjor did 'not fall into the "false rule" ' of the current regime. It is not known how or if this money was used.

The document, which was released to the press with a number of redactions believed to conceal strong criticisms of Roi Abélard, further asserted ' we must protect them from cruel dictatorship monarchies at all costs.' Premier Ministre Renaud Dupond condemned the document and vowed to take action

covert interference in the domestic affairs of sovereign nations is unacceptable and the government shall take appropriate action

Aggressive internet and social media campaigns hostile towards the monarchy and the government were an unedifying feature of this year's election, with experts alleging many originated outside Kanjor. A number of government and financial institutions were also victims of DoS attacks in the run up to the polls.

The allegations come as relations between the two Canrillaise nations becomes increasingly frosty. Kanjor recently withdrew its support for Lourenne's Security Council Seat D campaign after PM Charlotte Hernoire-Gignac called into question the legitimacy of Roi de Kanjor Abélard.

In response to the discovery of Opération Pro-Republic, Premier Ministre Renaud Dupond instructed Lourenne to arrange for all of its diplomats to be removed from Kanjor. A government source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said,

We expected that they would respond in kind, however they have gone much further than anyone anticipated.

Lourenne announced in reply that in 4330 they would forcibly hold all nationals and passport holders, the official document reads 'tourists, diplomats and trade companies', of Kanjor present within their territory aboard a ship called the LNS Francois Capet for eventual deportation.
The Crown and the Government of Kanjor have denounced in the strongest possible terms this draconian and anti humanitarian action.

Public anger at the move spilled out onto social media and internet message boards.
PM DUPOND- SEND IN THE ARMY NOW! #shockandawe

Kanjor united shall never be defeated #solidarity #jesuiskanjor

Our ppl r bein killed and our weak gov does NOTHING! #electionsnow

The Foreign Office advises all Kanjor residents and passport holders to avoid travel to Lourenne. All Kanjor nationals and citizens in Lourenne should make plans to leave États-Unis Canrillaises de Lourenne and its sovereign territories by the end of the year. Those unable to do so should seek advice from the Kanjor embassy in Lourenne before closure on 22nd December 4329.

4th January 4331

The government in Lourenne had been forcibly holding all Kanjor nationals aboard the LNS Francois Capet, a navy vessel, in response to diplomatic action by the Dupond government. Foreign Minister Hervé Lemaitre confirmed that backchannel communications between him and the Lourenne government had enabled the release of those held without anyone coming to harm.

Insiders say the diplomatic coup has put Lemaitre in pole position to succeed PM Renaud Dupond, who is reportedly seeking to step down after 10 years as Premier Ministre.

Alliance Royale Scores Major Electoral Upset
Alliance Royal sweeps Parti de Kanjor et La Tondelle out of office
Senate: AR - 394, PKT - 256

Belfort, La Tondelle -- The Royal Alliance and its leader Maximilien De Saint-Pierre claimed their place Tuesday as Kanjor's largest party in the Senate, an astonishing victory for the new movement that capitalized on broad dissatisfaction with the incumbent Parti de Kanjor et La Tondelle.

The triumph over Parti de Kanjor et La Tondelle and the incumbent Prime Minister Hervé Lemaitre, not declared until well after midnight, will end their total dominance of the Senate and threatens to undo many of its major achievements. Saint-Pierre has pledged to act quickly to deliver key reforms, such as popular elections for mayors and undoing the education reforms that were aimed at indoctrinating students with positive views of the Government.

The Royal Alliance has established, however, that it is "indisputably loyal to the King, but wishing to see reforms to establish a constitutional monarchy for the glory of the King and the people that love him," said Saint-Pierre.

As he claimed victory, Saint-Pierre urged the people of Kanjor to “come together as one united people, under our God and King."

CoS & GI: SELEYAN COUNTRIES SHOULD PURSUE THE PATH OF FURTHER INTEGRATION
Nowogard, September 4364

Original Article: CoS & GI: SELEYAN COUNTRIES SHOULD PURSUE THE PATH OF FURTHER INTEGRATION

Image
Gloria Iustitia's new headquarters (building in the center) in Nowogard, Valruzia.

NOWOGARD - In what seems to be the first official document issued jointly by human rights and democracy organization Gloria Iustitia, and the Council of Seleya which is aimed at preservation of multicultural characteristics of the Seleyan continent and at the same time monitor the state of democracy, human rights and the rule of law, diplomats from the Council of Seleya and lawyers from Gloria Iustitia say that Seleyan Union should work out the future shape of the Seleyan Union. Gloria Iustitia praised the legacy of the Seleyan Union which in the last couple decades became one of the top three areas on Terra where democracy is respected and citizens of Seleyan Union can enjoy peaceful life outside of any life-endangering conflict. In the document called "Seleya: Agenda for future and peace 4400" Gloria Iusitia and Council of Seleya point out that in recent decades the Seleyan Union which represents saw an unprecedented economic growth and according to the authors of the document, that is the result of closer economic cooperation on the continent and taking down economic barriers between member states. Council of Seleya highlights the importance of the Aloboro Agreement which, despite Valruzia and Alduria are the only participants, significantly affected the economic cooperation between the two countries, especially in the automotive. CoS underlines the fact that the Agreement contributes to growth in all sectors of the economy and especially in services, as with no border controls people are most likely to travel throughout Seleya. According to the document, Valruzian Ministry of Internal Affairs claims that average annual number of Aldurian tourists visiting Valruzia is 230 thousand, while the National Office for Statistical Research about 310 thousand of Valruzians visit Alduria every year. When compared with numbers before the Agreement came into force, we can see that they are roughly twice as high without the border patrols. Both Valruzian and Aldurian tourist industry benefits greatly every year thanks to the Alboro Agreement, in both countries the recent decades of saw increase in the total number of hotels and resorts and both quantitative and qualitative growth of the tourist and leisure infrastructure. In Valruzia tourist and leisure services make up a total of 8.9% of the total GDP which is relatively high result in north Seleya.

CoS and GI point out that extreme, nationalist political parties tend to undermine or distort the achievements of the Seleyan Union and tend to overuse the claim that it limits the sovereignty of the Member States. Gloria Iustitia points out that no article in the Treaty on the Seleyan Union limits the political might of any Member State and that all 12 Member States can enjoy the same rights within the community and are free to leave the organization. Economists from Gloria Iustitia highlight that in order to sustain the economic growth of the whole region, Member States will have to sit down together and work out additional protocols or declaration which will reform the current union. One of the proposed solutions is an increased level of economic freedom by establishing a pan-seleyan corporate status for companies that are able and are willing to operate on the territory of Seleyan Union and that their services and operations will have transborder character. Gloria Iustitia point out that the Valruzian government have tried to establish such solution back in 4327 with the Seleyan Petroleum Company - the planned company was supposed to have a unique corporate identity and could be the first ever Societas Seleyanea - allowing it to operate on the territory of the whole Seleyan Union and to be the subject to a special procedures in countries it operates. I could be said that currently, companies like Bonning and Reglair are the closest to what the Valruzian Government wanted to implement more than 30 years ago despite they operate as Valruzian corporate entities, and are subject to Valruzian internal taxation. Creation of such ventures could allow for the creation of the Union's budget which could be used for structural programmes for underdeveloped regions in the Seleyan Union and as subsidies for development programmes of the Member States' governments.
