November 4336Perica Commits Mass Murder Against RiotersAs tensions rise within Monarchist Statrica, a fresh wave of protests and riots have broken out recently, signalling the first major shift to opposition from liberals seemingly feeling that its “now or never”.
Last week, 35 people gathered in Friedrichshafen to peacefully protest the spread of Statrican Hosianism. This technically broke the law on protest in Monarchist Statrica, which states that government approval must be gained before any action is undertaken.
Rather than arresting them, however, Perica ordered the national troops to treat it as an act of treason and an organised act of rebellion: they immediately sent tear gas into the area, before surrounding them and shooting at them with their rifles. Confused and frightened, many simply stood in terror and perished. Others fought back, only to be brutally murdered.
The only legal news source in Monarchist Statrica, the Statrican Times, said that “the brave national forces put down an organised violent riot where 3 troops were injured.” They didn’t report, however, that they were only injured after they fired first.
February 4337On the Front Lines: A First Hand AccountThe country holds its breath as the Civil War draws towards its closing chapters: the Monarchists and Alliance forces have both stacked up everything they’ve got on the border. Talks of a new constitution and union erupt in the Alliance chambers while screams and pleas call forth from the hidden Statrican camps. The Socialists lie in ruins, while Okafor and Novac stand strong as allies and partners. New Endralon steps up its support with advisors and equipment that could give the Alliance forces an edge, while New Englian support for the Monarchists is all the more useful with its brutal advisors helping to implement and increasingly brutal and secure regime in the West. People look at their scarred lands, mourn their dead brothers and sisters, and bunker down for the final battle.
On the front lines, all of this comes together to form a bloody, deadly Central Front. This is the decider. This is the place where Statrican history is rewritten and the future is born.
Ode, a young Asli male, is a soldier serving with the Alliance forces, under the Populists.
“It’s a bloodbath,” he tells me, as we walk through a small town, charred with the stains of war: blood, fire and debris. “We tried leading an assault in the north, yesterday. Pushing into their lands. From what I heard, hundreds were lost: they saw us coming, shot us down before we even got close.”
The Monarchists have recently stepped up their campaign to steal New Endralon arms, with around 20% of all supplies currently sitting in Monarchist hands. On the horizon, a tank rumbles forwards: “Quick!” shouts Ode, and we duck into a bombed out building, the whole squad and me — a reporter feeling rather unsafe even in my clear ‘PRESS’ signage — holding our breath, death driving past in the form of a stolen old tank from New Endralon.
We let them pass through, escaping unnoticed. I look around. On the table behind me, a child’s bear lies in the fireplace, riddled with cuts and bruises.
The captain reports what we’ve just seen via radio. “This happens frequently,” Ode admits. “These patrols can keep out surprise attacks, but up against tanks, there’s not much we can do, unless we’re tank squad — and we’re not risking tanks for a patrol.”
He says Domonkos’ strategy is “bloody brilliant, apparently, though none of us are allowed to know what it is.” From what he can tell, the cautious guerrilla tactics are working well so far, even though it is a little out of character for Domonkos, known for his aggressive strategy. “There’s gotta be more to it,” admits Ode.
Monarchist and Alliance forces are almost evenly matched out on the front, with neither side looking to launch an outright assault. Instead, lonely patrols sweep No Man’s Land, wandering the battlefields looking for stragglers. A decisive assault will undoubtedly take an unexpected form: “the element of surprise is all we have,” Ode says.
Returning to the base, I feel like I’m leaving through the gates of hell and ascending to Terra. Yet even here, away from the patrols and the death, we are still not safe. Taking dinner in the camp, I was just about relaxing — suddenly, explosions ripped through the air: a Monarchist bombing. Everybody rushed to their positions, I clambered to safety; three dead or injured here, barely anything we can tell on the Monarchist side. A lucky escape. “They’re pushing closer towards us,” Ode says, and he’s right: the Minarchists are already making ground in Sovu and Nece.
Thirty minutes later, and we’re already finishing supper. This is the reality of life on the front lines. Leaving the battlezone, just one word lingers in my mind: “Why?”
June 4337Alliance Forces Form Statrican Republic, To Be Known as Republican ForcesOOC: Thanks to GeneralM for this cool map.In a momentous diplomatic agreement, the Socialists, Populists and Tribal forces have agreed at long last to form one, solid union. The People’s Statrican Republic has a new constitution: democracy reigns, freedom rings and elections are abound. While for now Novac takes the Presidency with a coalition War Cabinet, fresh elections are set to take place as soon as the Civil War is completed, or a majority vote in the Assembly — comprising currently of all 336 members of the individual faction’s lands, though soon to be expanded to 500 seats — secures it.
The People’s Party, Socialist Party and Equality Party (formed from the Tribal party) are the only three parties currently present, and all seem to have gotten something out of the deal. While the Populists take the Presidency, the Socialists have managed to remove all traces of the destructive devolutionist policies they were known for and which have been widely blamed for facilitating the war: introduced under Gregurek, policies about the devolved nature of the military and the powerful roles of Provincial Governors have been almost wholly abolished, while the Equality Party has secured fresh rights for Asli citizens and been given Rozna its own Local Assembly, with greater powers than other Provincial governments.
The Republican Forces, standing united, will be undoubtedly easier to command and organise: the new constitution can also be easily applied to a new unified Statrican state. Clearly, preparations are being made for the conclusion of the Civil War: but can the Alliance secure victory, or will the successful Monarchist assault continue to push ever eastwards, now almost wholly taking back Sovu and Nece?
I go by Ashley now and use she/her pronouns. This is a really old account, I don’t play now.
I was a mod in classic for a bit, then I helped make Marcapada and WM there for a while. As of 2020 I’m co-ordinating Pachapay’s development.
