Prif Weinidog-Elect Monika Geiger at a press conference held today at the Senedd
Today the ADP announced with the MRDP that they would form a coalition with ADP Party Co-Chair Monika Geiger at its head. Geiger was quoted as to be saying:
"I'm very excited to be working with my colleagues in the MRDP and in the Senedd on real legislative progress to move Aloria towards the future. Right now is the perfect time to implement change as Alorians have elected to open the political environment so that we can finally have a multi-party system again."

Geiger, a 46 year old native of Sancti Vicentii and mother of 3, has been a member of the ADP since its inception and was hand-picked by Party Chair Erich Giel to be the ADP's candidate for Prif Weinidog after previous candidate Evelyn Gorman passed away unexpectedly. Many were surprised that Giel declined to take up the position of Prif Weinidog, which Geiger addressed in her press conference, stated that
"After it became apparent that I was to become Prif Weinidog, I immediately went to his office in the Senedd building to discuss this. When I offered to allow him to fill the spot, he declined, saying that he wanted to instead be able to spend more time with the people of Aloria to learn what they want from their government."

Needless to say, Geiger has now taken the position of the party's most visible leader and thus is entering the looming leadership elections with lots of support.

Geiger is expected to address the nation before the Senedd immediately after her election.

A Look At Llywydd/Präsident (President) Rhys Cadwgan's First Year in Office
May 15th 4343
Image
Above: President Cadwgan giving the annual "President's Senedd Address" to both members of the Senedd and onlookers at the Fwrym Alor (Alorian Forum) located on the grounds of the Senedd

It was this month a year ago that Alorian President Rhys Cadwgan came into office in a hard-campaigned election, ultimately defeating Heitere Republikaner candidate and Party Leader Blanche Thyes, a Hosian-Democrat and social conservative by a margin close to 63% to 37% in the second rounds of voting, winning a substantial victory. Only a week after the election, Cadwgan, head of the MRDP (Liberals' and Reformers' Party,) gave an inauguration speech on these same grounds in which he emphasized patriotic regionalism, global free trade, a more equitable tax system, entry into the Artanian Union, and respect for people of all backgrounds, and a commitment to foster sustainable and global development centered around liberal internationalist principles. Now that he's been in office for a year, we have seen how many of his campaign promises he has been able to work with Prif Weinidog (Premier) Monika Geiger (ADP), and her majority liberal cabinet to achieve.

Since taking office, President Cadwgan has been able to make good on his most prominent campaign promise, to re-enter into the Artanian Union, with both the government caucus in Senedd and the Dremidydd Social-Democrats of the opposition vocally voting in favor of re-entry. President Cadwgan's strongest supporters are extremely jubilant about this outcome, and more independent voters poll extremely well on the Artanian Union entry as well. Additionally, Mr. Cadwgan has worked closely with Lywellyn Bennet, Gweinidog Tramor (Foreign Minister), and MRDP member, in order to successfully re-enter the Artanian Union. Mr. Bennet, a thirty-eight year old Calliope native with a long and prodigial career in the Foreign Ministry, is seen as a rising star and a likely successor to Mr. Cadwgan as MRDP leader if he steps down from that position to give an appearance of greater bipartisanship.

In spite of disagreements on issues such as AU re-entry, Mr. Cadwgan has been able to maintain a relatively collegial and respectful relationship with Heitere Republikaner Chairwoman Blanche Thyes, who also leads the opposition in the Senedd. Mrs. Thyes, a Dundorfian, has been actively invited to work on an international treaty to promote preservation of Draddwyr minority cultures overseas, and to maintain the traditions of Aloria's predominantly Draddwyr culture, whilst respecting other large ethnic groups. However, the government coalition clashes with a minority that is divided between the very socially progressive DSD and a relatively conservative HR on issues such as a bill that almost completely bans abortion, and on the aforementioned AU re-entry. Regardless, President Cadwgan said today during his speech that he would "like to offer Mrs. Thyes utmost thanks for her party's collaboration on the Agreement for the Preservation of Draddwyr Culture, and her patriotic and principled commitment to civil disagreement and ability to partake in the policy process."

Further, Mr. Cadwgan thanked his Senedd counterpart, Premier Monika Geiger, for her willingness to make the government coalition strong and able to govern quite affectively, as well as hinting at an innocent and trivial inside joke they have together about his trademark bow ties: "Prif Gweinidog Geiger always tells me I wear bow ties because I would spill coffee on a long tie whenever she brings me news. I confess, this is not the whole truth, but perhaps Mrs. Geiger's statements have some merit." This statement was met with a deal of laughter by many in attendance, who were aware of this amusing proclivity of the generally composed and cool-headed President.

Yet, Mr. Cadwgan has not yet been fully successful in all of his agenda. While he has promised to both make the tax system more progressive and "lighter in the middle" his party colleague, Gweinidog Cylld (Finance Minister) Richard Steen, has been unable to as of yet successfully create an income tax plan that will be at least fairly acceptable to many both in the governing coalition and the opposition. While the MRDP bloc in the governing coalition is insistent on corporate tax cuts and income tax increases, their colleagues in the ADP are more skeptical, and without ADP support for the governing coalition's finance plans, there will likely be political turbulence and a breakdown of strong cohesion in the governing coalition.

Concluding his speech, Mr. Cadwgan announced plans for a "Northern Artanian Customs Union" planned to initially include Rutania, Kirlawa, Dundorf, and Dorvik, which border Aloria. This customs union is said by the MRDP to make ease of trade and travel even easier between these countries, creating expedited entry points for members of the Customs Union at land borders, airports, and train stations, and in order to remove any weighing fees levied by any country, which act similarly to tariffs but are excluded currently from the AU's tariff blocks.

Premier Geiger speaks at the Senedd
In her annual address, Premier Monika Geiger cited strong cooperation between her party, the Alorian Democratic Party, and her governing partner, the MRDP, for a successful year. In particular, she thanked Rhys Cadwgan for being such a good partner in governing and being cooperative throughout the year. Now, she hopes to work with the MRDP on key issues that the ADP has deemed important. Afterwards, at a press conference, Geiger announced she would challenge Erich Giel for sole leadership of the ADP with Torban Freud, ADP Foreign Minister candidate, as her running mate. The move is sure to split the ADP, and many pundits wonder if it will diminish the chances fo the ADP doing well in the next election.

Alorian Ambassador to Luthori Beckons Luthorian Government To Act On Aspirations of the 4310's
July 10th, 4343
Image
Above: Ambassador and Minister Plenipotentiary of Aloria to Luthori (center) Franz Hergenröther, and his wife Hermione Hergenröther-Tsao meeting with Luthorian officials and legislators during a cocktail hour at the Alorian Embassy

This past Friday, at a cocktail hour and meet-and-greet hosted by the new Alorian Ambassador to Luthori, Franz Hergenröther, the new appointee called upon his Luthorian counterparts and Luthorian legislators to "harken back to Prime Minister Roberts-Dyer's vision of a stronger, more interconnected, more inclusive, and more expansive Artanian Union." Mr. Hergenröther, who is the former chief marketing officer of major Alorian telecom firm AlorNetwork, holds degrees in Luthorian language and international relations, a key final sealant of faith in his abilities to President Rhys Cadwgan, who encouraged Prif Weinidog Monika Geiger to collaborate and agree on his appointment to the important diplomatic posting. Mr. Hergenröther, also a major donor to MRDP and ADP campaigns is quite notable in his persistence and qualification for the position of Ambassador to Luthori.

At a reception filled with Alorian and Luthorian cocktails, canapes, and other small appetizers, Ambassador Hergenröther worked the room, speaking to officials from the Luthorian government and Foreign Ministry. Additionally, he congratulated His Grace Marquis Elad Weston on Her Majesty the Empress of Luthori's healthy reign, exchanging other assorted small-talk, and discussing business regarding the AU.

Around the middle of the event, Mr. Hergenröther called for Luthori to "join Aloria and the other Artanian nations in aspiring to a truly united Artanian common market, customs union, and other benefits which will lead to strong regional development. We in today's Aloria are proud of the manner in which Luthorian ministers and leaders corrected our former President Margareta Schuchard's ill-conceived hostility towards Artanianism. I hope that our two countries have a strong future both together and within Artania."

However, some controversy ensued, as it was rumored by journalists in attendance that Mr. Hergenröther avoided interacting with leaders of Luthori's Artani-sceptic Reform Party, including party favorites of its leader, Mr. Perot. Said journalists have reported to Gazette Loer that Mr. Hergenröther brushed Reform Party members of the Luthorian Diet off, especially its hardliners, and sent low-ranking diplomatic attaches to busy them.

Carter-Jones "completely surprised" by meeting, say Foreign Ministry sources
Image
Luthorian Foreign Minister Andrew Carter-Jones

FORT WILLIAM, LUTHORI - Sources close to Andrew Carter-Jones, the Luthorian Foreign Minister, say he was not informed of the meeting by Governor-General the Marquis Weston with Alorian Ambassador Hergenröther, nor was he made aware of any intention by junior ministers in the Foreign Office to attend the reception at the Alorian Embassy. In statements made since taking office, Carter-Jones has made clear that there is no desire from his ministry for further political union with its Artanian neighbours, preferring to focus on relations with and the expansion of the Imperial Commonwealth.

Sources also suggest that Mr. Carter-Jones, and indeed many figures in the Foreign Office, question long-term Alorian commitment to the Artanian project, given the record of previous Alorian governments on relations with the Artanian Union.

Gweinidog Tramor: AU Entry, Draddwyr Cultural Treaty, and "Ambassador Hergenröther Should Have Exercised More Diligence"
July 19th 4343
Image
Above: Gweinidog Tramor (Foreign Minister) Lywellyn Bennet gave a conference to the press about continuing Artanian progress, also addressing Hergenröther's misstep in conduct of meeting.

In a meeting following a cocktail hour at the Alorian embassy in Fort William, Luthori, Gweinidog Tramor Lywellyn Bennet addressed several issues regarding both the incident, continued and firm commitment of the administration to Artania, and the promotion of a treaty that preserves traditional Draddwyr communities across Terra.

Mr. Bennet responded to Ambassador Hergenröther's alleged missteps in planning a promotional cocktail hour, amidst reports of Luthorian Foreign Minister Andrew Carter-Jones' dissatisfaction at not being informed of the above named embassy event. Responding to complaints filed by his Luthorian counterpart to the Foreign Ministry, Mr. Bennet stated the following
We are dissatisfied at the Minister's Office and in the Foreign Service Division of the Ministry about Ambassador Hergenröther's lapse of prudence in failing to invite Minister Carter-Jones to his first event as Ambassador, and it is certainly something we are working with the embassy to ensure such major emissions will not occur in the future. However we must note that while the ambassador should notice the absence of such eminent figures as Minister Carter-Jones, it falls upon the diplomatic staff, namely the Communications Officer, to ensure all relevant and appropriate guests and officials receive invitations to functions. I have been assured that Ambassador Hergenröther is deeply sorry for his staff's failure to invite Minister Carter-Jones to the event. Additionally, I have personally sent a communique to Minister Carter-Jones in which I offer our sincere apologies for this thoughtless error, and I hope that if he is not yet in receipt of that letter, that this conference's statement will be received by him in good health.

Additionally, Mr. Bennet spoke on the issue of the Cytundeb Cadwraeth Ddiwylliannol Draddwyr (Agreement for the Preservation of Draddwyr Culture), a global cultural preservation act to work to preserve Draddwyr local histories, cultures and languages abroad. He said:
Progress continues after our ratification of said treaty, and in good news regarding that matter, we heard that Dankuk's legislature will be ratifying the treaty. Dankuk's foreign Minister, Robbie Watson, had very kind words and strong support. We are confident that Dankuk's Senado Imperial will be ratifying the treaty by a significant margin

Regarding the AU,
Once again, having entered the Artanian Union, this government shall stand ever firm in its commitment to Artania and expansion of the AU to improve the lives of citizens of all of its member countries.

Thyes Questions AU's Ability To Unite A Diverse Continent // Gazette

Image
Above: Official commission portrait of Blanche Thyes.

Blanche Thyes has questioned the ability of the Artanian Union to 'unite the exceptionally diverse continent we live in'. Thyes particularly noted the 'divergent economic fortunes and cultural progression of different societies', which she said were too different to have a 'one-size-fits-all policy'. While Thyes was careful not to call any particular cultures backwards in comparison to others, she did say that the 'despotic monarchism of Narikaton' had not only failed to be addressed by the AU but also had been ignored. This particular recent stain on the continent has dampened much enthusiasm for the AU, which often fails to address Artanian issues. However, many would say the AU lacks enough power to intervene, but disavows despotism.

Thyes further told reporters from the Gazette that she did not think that countries as far apart in economic capacity as some Artanian nations are could coexist in a close economic union, saying that she fears 'the exploitation of migrants for low-wage labour in Aloria, displacing local people and increasing racial tension'. Her concerns have been echoed by many members of her party, including Ultran governor and daughter to Luthorian immigrants, Isabel Sharpe, who said that 'everyone loses when migration is not controlled, and it only increases extremism while the migrants are as much victims as the local people'. The AU's proponents have called these statements 'racist', and 'grounded in a hatred of immigrants'.

While Thyes has had a lot of success cooperating with President Rhys Cadwgan, especially on a treaty propelling Draddwyr rights worldwide and on passing a tax plan, the two have long disagreed on the issue of immigration. Thyes' conservative leaning on immigration is a major hit for her in the increasingly progressive nation of Aloria, but she has consistently defended herself from accusations of racism. Finishing her talks with reporters, she made the point that 'by pushing for a closer Artanian Union, we lose a part of our unique culture, both in Alorian Dundorfians and Draddwyr circles', but stated that 'I care firstly about the conditions of the poor and the downtrodden, whatever colour their skin'.

Faustenmeer: Thyes knowledge is backwards

After hearing about Thyes statement which mentions "the despotic monarchism of Narikaton" Reichspräsident of the Free Realm of Narikaton and Darnussia felt an urge to answer. He criticised that Blanche Thyes knowledge about current geopolitical is not even sufficient to qualify her for her current position. The President called her "A woman way too insensible for diplomatic matters" Olaf Faustenmeer mentioned he hoped that politicans would see Thyes embarrasing diplomatic statement as a negative example for statements about controversial international affairs. A part of utmost memorability was the following "The only thing backwards on the west coast of Artania is Thyes' knowledge about Narikaton"
"It looked like a silly semi-cliquey thing between a few players to me. Following around a troll called Mbites like he was some sort of god... which wouldn't have mattered so much in the scale of things, except one of them was a Mod."
