Le Travailler Rildanoraise (LSR Party Paper)

Postby PhilG » Tue Feb 27, 2018 3:19 am

OOC: I've been posting frequently on the Rildanor Associated Press, but since my party's not in power it just feels kind of strange to give it so much media attention (granted we're only 2 seats behind the Governing party, but still), so I decided to make a party newspaper. I saw on the National Newspaper Index that party papers go in this sub-forum, so here we are. This way, the Rildanor AP will be used more for news pertinent to the nation as a whole, while I'll use this for more party-centric thing.

Le Travailler Rildanoraise (The Rildanorese Worker) is the official party newspaper of the Ligue des Socialistes Rildanoraises (LSR; League of Rildanorese Socialists). It will offer news and commentaries on politics both domestic and international from a working class perspective. The newspaper is funded entirely by donations from party members, and is associated with neither the government nor bourgeoisie (unlike certain other papers which shall remain nameless). We hope readers will see that we offer a more humane and people-centric view than the neutral and detached drones of Capitalist journalism.

LSR Leadership Comments on End of Deltarian Conflict
December 4354

Officials in Deltaria have recently announced an accord between the government and czarist rebels.. The accord creates the "Grand Republic" of Deltaria--the position of President shall remain, but a "Grand Council" has been created and given judiciary power. The Council is composed entirely of members of the Thaller royal family. Co-chair and Presidential candidate Augustine Hambard had this to say:

This "peace" is nothing more than a betrayal of every value of socialism by the Socialist Union. The results of the recent snap election are too quizzical, and I believe a lot of questions need to be answered. That said, I'll wait to see the official report on the "free and fair" conduct of the elections before I make any further comment.
This agreement smacks of oligarchy and voids any real progress that had been made before the reactionary coup. The SU has turned over the rule of law in Deltaria to the very people who betrayed it in an attempt to maintain their power. This is agreement is just an armistice. Mark my words, something will give.

Co-chair Zacharie Soucy, a Deputy in the National Assembly representing the Canton of Meroix, was also reached for comment:

I am very happy to see this violence come to an end. I am in agreement with the rest of party leadership in that I will wait for the official Selucian report on the elections before making further comment. Regardless of the outcome of that, I'm very glad the fighting is over and I hope the two sides can come together and find a sense of unity after this horrible tragedy.

We will follow with more information as it develops.

Jelbanian Regime Cracks Down on Civil Rights
February 4355

According to information coming out of Jelbania, the government has initiated a reactionary crackdown on working class citizens campaigning for their political rights. Unions and workers across the country have called for the dissolution of the monarchy and free elections. In response, the Jelbanian government has arrested upwards of 1,500 of its own citizens for exercising their right to protest. The official response from the LSR office reads thusly:

As we've seen with the Deltarian conflict and the increasing repression in Jelbania and Dorvik, the forces of reaction are making their final push against the working class in an attempt to preserve their titles and privilege against the might of the masses. Every protester they arrest is a hero. Every one they kill is a martyr. We offer this plea to not only the people of Rildanor, but people all over Terra: Do not allow yourselves to be entranced by the politics of greed and hatred. A better world is possible,
and it starts with recognising that when we come together, there is nothing we cannot accomplish. And that's what scares these cowards the most! No matter what, all of our comrades in every land have our support. Solidarity forever.

Les Élections pour la Direction du Parti Commencent en 10 Moises
Elections for Party Leadership Begin in 10 Months

July 4356

LSR party elections are coming up in May of 4357, and people are buzzing to see who will be elected to the various positions within the party. Since reforming as the Ligue des Socialistes Rildanoraises, the LSR's membership has continued to grow exponentially, with more and more leftists are entering the party. But, with growing membership comes more diverse ideas. At first it was Socialists and social-democrats, now leftists of varying stripes are vying for position within the General Committee (essentially the party's equivalent to a legislature), but of course, that diversity is what makes the LSR so strong. The party's commitment to democracy stands unparalleled within Rildanor and we are proud to bring you this information.

Les Syndicalistes Révolutionnaires montent brusquement alors que les Socials-démocrates trébuchent
Syndicalists Surge Ahead as Social-democrats Stumble

May 4357 (backdated)
(OOC: I tried to get this done back while it was actually May in-game, but well, sometimes real life calls.)

In the LSR's first party elections since re-branding from the Parti du Metzism et Démocratie, the Syndicalists and Metzists rose to the highest prominence as the Social-democrats lost their plurality. Political experts speculate that the shift in the Rildanorese Left is in response to the rise in right-wing sentiment all across Terra, and the feeling that the Social-democrats aren't doing enough to fight fascism and capitalism. Only time will tell what impact this will have.
