Gus De Smet
Foreign Minister of Vanuku:

Following talks with my counterpart in Jelbania in regards to reviewing the treaty associated with this committee, Vanuku will not be formally casting its five votes at this stage. However, rather than see the position sit vacant - and as a gesture of good will - we are happy for Manil H'an to hold the position in the interim.

With 7 out of 12 eligible votes, His Exalted Highness Manil H'an has been elected Protector of the Jelbic Peoples.

A statement from the H'an

We thank the Electoral Committee for entrusting me with this sacred and ancient role. It is my great pleasure to announce that we will exercise the role in a non-partisan and non-political manner. Member states should rest assured that a new Treaty governing the role of the Protector and creating new institutions is in the works and they should soon be able to review it and advise us on its acceptability in the context of a new election.

My vision is of a set of new pan-Jelibic linguistic, cultural, religious and historical academies led by well qualified persons form each nation. The greatest of educational centres in Terra. Our view is a civic not merely ethnic-based Union where all of the Jelbic cultures within the Union are studied carefully and promoted.
