Dictatorship of the Engineers?

The Council of the Ataraxian Confederation (Ataraxian Council) has just announced an amendment to the Ataraxian Constitution after reaching unanimous consensus among the conciliators of the 65 communes. Leaders (cooperative organizers, syndicate councillors, and communal conciliators) must be selected on a basis of ergatocratic, meritocratic, and technocratic principles. The requirements for leadership selection is below:

1. The member must be a participating worker in the group they wish to represent and not currently under rehabilitation for any criminal offences; and
2. The member must be one of the highest performing workers in the group they wish to represent; and
3. The member must be the most qualified in the group they wish to represent in relation to present and future projects; and
4. The member must receive unanimous consent from other alternative candidates; and
5. The member may be involuntarily removed from their position if requirements 1-3 are violated, they fail to perform their duties, or are found guilty of criminal behaviour warranting rehabilitation

This effectively makes the Ataraxian Confederation a technocratic sociocracy. Previously leaders could be selected simply on the sociocratic principle of unanimous consensus, now in addition to requiring unanimous consent they also must be the most productive and qualified. While this policy was seemingly practiced for quite some time, with engineers taking up more than 65% of leadership positions across the Ataraxian Confederation - making it a sort-of de-facto "dictatorship of the engineers", the amendment makes the practice official and mandated.

As a result, 86-year-old Ataraxian Ambassador Marvyn Warrick has resigned from his position after serving for 8 years and has been succeeded by Pete Thompsett, an 82-year-old telecoms engineer who has been involved in upgrading telecommunication infrastructure in Adelia and the Confederation.

Marvyn Warrick wrote:We have debated about introducing a policy such as this for a very long time. We talked with Ataraxian scientists, engineers, and even janitors on this issue. We have come to an unanimous consensus that this policy will promote and safeguard efficient management. "Dictatorship" does not really apply here as every Ataraxian has virtually equal say in decision-making at the highest levels of government. People have and will still be able to request participation in a council they are related to.

Ataraxians are noted for their rejection of contemporary democracy, in that they disapprove of majority rule. When deciding a leader, even with the new amendment, the candidates themselves decide who among them is to be appointed through unanimous consensus. With the new amendment, this means that essentially only people who are part of the STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) are able to run as candidates. Furthermore, it is important to note the difference between unanimous consensus and agreement - this has been a cause of confusion in the past. Unlike unanimous agreement, unanimous consensus does not require everyone to agree, only that nobody objects. Decisions are made through discussion rather than voting. Ataraxians say this encourages constructive dialogue and that only parties truly invested in an issue make decisions.

HNLP announces first Annual Party Conference in November

The HNLP was founded on November 28th, 4372, under the hope of Christopher Tarrow of creating a reactionary force to both the moderate left and right. Despite barely having reached any publicity, it still entered elections across multiple seats the following month, and still gained a total of 36,000 votes in legislative elections.

Now, after 3 years, the Party managed to sucessfully lobby a proposed bill to regulate gambling accross Hutori, allowing businesses to expand their reach without fear of local restrictions while still under strong regulation. With a full shadow cabinet now finally formed, Christopher Tarrow today announced the first Party Conference to be held on the 3rd anniversary of the Party on the outskirts of Bekenial. Tarrow hopes that the Party will finally gain traction in the public eye, state its policy and aims and announce the new shadow cabinet.

First Annual Party Conference

Image

Christopher Tarrow inspired thousands today as he gave a great speech outside metropolitan Bekenial. Although the open event didn't count numbers, local papers have estimated that around as much as 10,000 attending.

Tarrow announced the Party's shadow Cabinet, outlined Party Policy and attempted to improve knowledge of the Party.

In this modern age of Politics, we love to fall behind stereotypes and misconceptions about other beliefs and ideologies. Neo-Classical Liberalism doesn't attempt to proclaim neutrality, it attempts to proclaim Unity. It attempts to bridge the gap between conservative and liberal views on civil freedoms, on the gap between the economic left and right.

The HNLP Cabinet is as follows:

Christopher Tarrow: Candidate for Chancellor
Luke Nolan: Candidate for Presidency
Lucy Harlan: Candidate for Foreign Affairs
Leo Smith: Candidate for Internal Affairs
Ella Sandron: Candidate for Finance
David Montgomery: Candidate for Defence
Luke Wayne: Candidate for Justice
David Tilheese: Candidate for Infrastructure and Transport
Florence Carla: Candidate for Health
Luke Bates: Candidate for Education
Bertie Colrow: Candidate for Science
Joseph Cranton: Candidate for Agriculture
Sophie Evans: Candidate for Environment and Tourism
Teddy Wright: Candidate for Trade and Industry

HUTORI TO SEND DELEGATION TO NORTHERN COUNCIL CONFERENCE IN RUTANIA

Today, Chancellor Aaron Scheer announced Hutori would be sending a 3 person delegation to the Rutanian capitol, Vanderberg, this October for a Northern Council conference. The conference is being held to develop security protocol for the event of a crisis involving a Northern Council member state. This is in response to what many called a "slow response" by Northern Council members to the Kazulian-Dankuk crisis. Scheer will lead the delegation himself and will be joined by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marlene Vinson of the New National Progress Party, and the Minister of Defense, Erica Smith of the Liberal National Party. Scheer sat down with us to talk about his agenda going into the conference.

"We all know that the response to the Kazulian-Dankuk crisis was completely unacceptable. The Northern Council needs a new security protocol that will prevent something like this in the future. I will do my best make sure that whatever this new protocol includes, it is in the best interests of Hutorians. We believe that if one of our allies are attacked, we should be there to defend them, as we would expect the same from them. We will most definitely be suggesting a motion that any attack on one Northern Council member is an attack on all Northern Council members."

Annual Party Conference

Image

Christopher Tarrow gave a rallying speech at the Party's second annual Conference in the lead up to the elections. Talking about uniting the nation and bringing in a wave of reform, Tarrow called upon to voters to truly consider their choices. Considering how the Progressive Party won a massive landslide on their first election in Rutania, the HNLP seems set to follow as Party popularity rapidly increases and Tarrow finishes a nation-wide tour.

LEBLANC FIRST TORY TO BE ELECTED PRESIDENT

Image

41 years after the introduction of the Queen's elected representative in Hutori, the President, the Conservative Party candidate has won for the first time. After finance minister Pascale Rousseau lost by less than three percent of the popular vote in 4372, the Tories finally broke through this time around. Maxime Leblanc has served as the MP for South Anslem since 4361 and will now serve as President of the Commonwealth of Hutori. Leblanc first gained popularity when he challenged Aaron Scheer for the Conservative leadership in 4365. He was elected as the Conservative Presidential candidate last year after running a campaign on the basic policies of conservatism. These policies proved popular with all of Hutori, as he closed the three percent gap from the last election, and won by more than seven percent of the popular vote. Leblanc spoke to a large crowd of supporters shortly after news broke of his election.

"Thank you everybody. Tonight, we are making history. 4 years ago, Hutorians elected my dear friend Aaron Scheer to be the first Conservative Chancellor. Tonight, you have elected the first Conservative President. It is my honor to serve the people of Hutori as your president. I have served the people of South Anslem as their MP for the last 15 years, and I decided that it was time I represented all Hutorians. Members of the Conservative party joined my movement and elected me as their candidate for the presidency. Now tonight, Hutorians have elected me to be their President and I thank you. I look forward to working with the chancellor and the cabinet to continue the work that has been done over the last 4 years by the coalition led by Chancellor Scheer."

Adelia Fibre Project Begins Installation

Postby TheCollectivist » Mon Apr 16, 2018 7:01 pm

May 4379

as compared to current copper cables.

The Adelia Fibre Project, an $8.9 billion HLR infrastructure project funded by the Ataraxians was approved by the Hutorian government back in July 4378. The project's goal is to install fibre to the premises (FTTP) to all remaining households in Adelia (approximately 4,602,307). The Ataraxians have spent a total of $14.9 billion (including this project) on FTTP installation in Adelia, with this project representing the final step in total FTTP adoption in the region. Adelia will become the first province in Hutori to fully utilize optical fibre cables. The infrastructure will be able to provide consumers with 1 Gbit/s connections.

Pete Thompsett, the incumbent Ataraxian ambassador and AINF (Ataraxian Information Association) coordinator claims the project will have a profound impact on telecommunications and the information technology sector in Adelia.

Pete Thompsett wrote:Imagine being able to download the entire contents of a 1 TB hard disk in no more than 20 minutes or an HD movie in less than 1. The possibilities this project has for cloud computing, especially cloud backup services is truly remarkable. Every area of the information sector will benefit from this project. Consumers and content providers alike will absolutely love this. The Hutorian government has demonstrated its confidence in the Ataraxian Confederation to assist in mutual technological advancement. May this project serve as a reminder of that mutual relationship and the great potential it has to make a better future for all Adelians.

Installation of FTTP has begun this month and is expected to be completed sometime in 4387.

Hutorian President Responds To Soiled Flag Being Sent To Emperor Alexander I

Image

Following an incident where Shah Kurosh of Aldegar sent a soiled Hutorian Flag to Emporer Alexander I, Hutorian President Maxime Leblanc has released an official statement.

"I am extremely disappointed in Shah Kurosh. Emperor Alexander I has a very legitimate claim to the Aldegarian throne, as he does the Hutorian throne. Emperor Alexander's great uncle, and Empress Sarah's brother, Grand Duke Thomas was Shah of Aldegar, since Shah Thomas had no children, the next heir to the Aldegarian throne would be Emperor Alexander. It is Hutori's belief that Emperor Alexander is the rightful Shah of Aldegar.

Soiling a Hutorian flag is something this country does not take lightly. I will take this opportunity to call on Shah Kurosh to step down and allow Emperor Alexander to take his rightful place as Shah of Aldegar. If Shah Kurosh does not step down we will have no choice but to take action to ensure Emperor Alexander can claim his rightful place as Shah of Aldegar."
