Progress Party leader condemns Hawuian condemnation

Image

Progress Party leader Alexis Siegfried has come out in condemnation of the latest statements made by the Hawu Mumenhes Foreign Ministry:

“We oppose what is taking place in Saridan. We favor another system and another form of government. But it is not our fight. Sending young people away to die for forcing our way of life upon a nation that constitutes no threat to our nation is simply morally indefensible. Their government has the support of their people, and there is nothing we can do about that.

So if the government is stalling any negotiation about an intervention - good! I cannot remember the last time a socialist-dominated government was serving the interests of ordinary Mordusians. I expect our government to continue to counteract any form of alien military adventure in our region. The only thing we should be “intervening” in Saridan with is our businesses, our products and our capitalism. That is the only way to achieve understanding between people from different countries and cultures and peace and prosperity for all people.”

“Cancel the games”

Mr. Siegfried also told reporters that he will try to cancel the 4390 Rechtenburg Winter Olympics:

“This spectacle has quite clearly been revealed as a waste of our tax denarius with the aim to soothe the egos of certain well-fed politicians. Yes - it might be good for business - but taking the government out of sports entirely would be even better! This is not a morally justifiable thing to spend our tax revenue on. If people want to have a skiing competition - or whatever “Winter Olympics” is supposed to mean - they better arrange one without help from the government. At least the well-tanned delegation from that country with the unpronounceable name was right about one thing: this Olympics business is truly a blunder of quite - Olympic - proportions!”

Dodo Mania grips Terra as Dodo World opens to the public

Image

To huge public fanfare, the much-anticipated zoological attraction, Dodo World, has opened to the public. Analysts predict the Medingsbury-based attraction is set to become one of the biggest tourist attractions in Mordusia, and indeed in the whole of south Seleya. All over Terra, people have become fascinated by the surprise rediscovery of the dodo in the Great Adubara Forest, when it had previously been thought to be extinct.

Dodo World starts with a population of just over 300 dodos, and visitors will be able to see them in a variety of different settings and learn everything there is to know about this fascinating species.

President Claire DeChambeau of Lourenne, a passionate conservationist herself, was on hand to officially open Dodo World, amidst much pomp and ceremony, with many prominent zoologists in attendance, alongside numerous dignitaries.

Official merchandise from the Dodo World online shop, particularly dodo plush toys, are selling so fast it has been impossible to keep up with all of the orders. All of the money raised by Dodo World will be ploughed back into conservation and zoological research. However, despite this, some zoologists are already muttering that Dodo World risks veering too much in the direction of becoming a popular theme park.

DODO SCIENTISTS MISSING, DEAD DODO WASHES UP ON SAMMODRAN BEACH

Image
Last sighting of the Scientific Vessel

Last week, 15 Mordusian scientists and one dodo set out to sail to Sint Pieterland, Saridan to investigate reported dodo sightings. This morning, the vessel was pronounced missing after the body of a dead dodo bird, presumed to be the expedition’s mascot, was found washed up on a Sammodran beach. All sorts of conspiracy theories have been published including alien abductions, a suicidal bombing on board, the Saridanese Government taking it prisoner and various others. Chairman of the Mordusian Dodo Investigational Society, a private independent organisation, Jeremy White stated:

Despite this tragic event occurring, I do have to say that I don’t feel any grief for them because they made the idiotic decision to go out to a Saridanese island and enter Saridanese waters in this era. They made a stupid decision against my advice and they deserve whatever has happened to them.

The Mordusian Government is attempting to send a Search and Rescue Squadron out to investigate but only time will tell us what has happened.

HOLLY GILMORE WINS LANDSLIDE VICTORY FOR SP LEADER

Image
SP Delegates at the Conference

Results of SP Leadership Election
- Gilmore - 76.4%
- Walcott - 23.6%

Holly Gilmore has won the largest victory of any SP leader, with a stunning 76% of the vote.

“Let us put the past behind us, and look forward to a progressive future!” she said in her victory speech, to a standing ovation, “this is a fresh start for the Socialist Party!”

Walcott's speech was more somber, saying, “I accept that the SP membership has voted in Gilmore with a clear mandate. We must look ahead, and come together, to a brighter future”

During the conference, Samantha Jenkins, the longest serving First Minister of Adubura, became the first elected President of the Socialist Party, with 92.6% of the vote, compared to Jacob Vole of the International Socialists, a Metzist platform within the SP, who only received 7.4% of the vote.

The SP passed various motions at their national conference, including;
1) The establishment of a universal childcare system, for 40 hours a week for children between 1-5
2) Opposition to plans to expand the Port Alexander International Airport to include a fourth terminal, as advocated by the Hosian Social Union
3) The full reversal of public-sector wage cuts by 4395

This marks a notable shift to the left, but it remains to be seen if the federal SP will take note of these radical proposals

Slavery and segregation "a choice" for Iftgoerroon in Saridan, says Manningham-Buller

Image

National Movement chairman Frederick Manningham-Buller, a well-known defender of the controversial regime ruling Mordusia's troubled neighbour, Saridan, has given an explosive television interview in which he claims the Iftgoerroon freely choose slavery and segregation for themselves. To quote the comments in full:

It is absurd to suggest Saridan's system of organisation of society would continue unless the vast majority of Iftgoerroon were essentially happy to go along with it. The thing you need to bear in mind is that the overwhelming majority of ordinary, decent Iftgoerroon recognise that the Saridanis are more civilised than they are, that the Saridanis are their teachers and that they have so much to learn and gain from them. The really beautiful thing about Saridan is that there they are allowing the Iftgoerroon to develop and cultivate themselves at their own pace, in dignity and security. It is a myth that the Saridanis are holding the Iftgoerroon back. Anyone who has been in Saridan for a reasonable period of time knows that if you gave the Iftgoerroon equal rights, civilisation would collapse in that country - not just for the Saridanis, but for the Iftgoerroon themselves.

He later claimed that the forced labour camps in Saridan are "humane and progressive institutions, focused on rehabilitating anti-social elements and giving these people discipline, dignity and self-respect".

However, he warned that "a tiny, tiny minority of Iftgoerroon, encouraged and funded and manipulated by the forces of international communism and global liberalism, are pursuing an agenda of trying to destroy Saridan" and that "they don't care how they do it - they'll try to destroy that country both from the inside or the outside, and through any methods - and it's really sad, because if you look at what Saridan has actually accomplished, it's one of the greatest achievements in modern Terran history".

Image
Bingargy Muloyan, Iftgoeroon athlete

Manningham-Buller's remarks have provoked an angry backlash from critics of the Saridani regime, including from Bingargy Muloyan, an Iftgoeroon athlete and political dissident who fled the country to become a refugee in Mordusia 2 years ago, and is expected to compete as an independent athlete at the upcoming 4390 Winter Olympic games in Rechtenburg. He accused Manningham-Buller of being "an ignorant racist" and "an apologist for the most evil regime in the modern world".

Manningham-Buller has since responded to this criticism by saying Muloyan "only says what he says because he's bribed, everyone knows agents of the Istalian government send him free prostitutes" and that "he ought to be more grateful for what Saridan has done for him, because without the training and sporting opportunities his country gave him, he would not be enjoying such a successful athletic career - well successful for an Iftgoerroon, I mean, if you actually watch him, he's pretty crap but they let him compete because of his colour".

Destruction of Rechtenburg "no big loss", says Manningham-Buller

Respond to news that Saridan is threatening to launch a nuclear attack against Mordusia's capital, Rechtenburg, Frederick Manningham-Buller has tried to downplay the threat, saying "Curtis Spencer is a clever man and a great man, a very great man, and I think he loves the Mordusian people as much as I do, so I don't think he'd do anything like that unless he was really, really forced into it". However, he added that "in the scale of things losing Rechtenburg would be no big loss, because it's so multi-ethnic and multi-cultural it's hardly Mordusian any more - I've long thought we should make a different city the capital".

Manningham-Buller has also said he is going to "pick up the phone to Curtis" and that he would "ask the Staatspresident if he could bomb another country instead".

Manningham-Buller reports Holly Gilmore to police for treason

Image

Yesterday afternoon, just in time for the national 6 o'clock news on the Mordusian Broadcasting Station, Frederick Manningham-Buller summoned the national press to a small police station in eastern Rechtenburg, promising he was about to make "a big announcement". When the time came, he told the journalists and the television cameras that he was going to enter the police station and report for treason the new Socialist Party leader, Holly Gilmore, on the grounds that she has "betrayed our country by attempting to take us into the Seleyan Union, which would abolish our status as an independent and self-governing nation".

A police constable on duty at the station later confirmed that "Mr. Manningham-Buller's report was listened to" but that "no further action will be taken".

An online petition has since been launched calling for Manningham-Buller to be prosecuted for wasting police time. So far it has received nearly half a million signatures.

Alexis Siegfried running for Governor-General

Image

PP Chair Alexis Siegfried has announced that he is running for Governor-General in the upcoming general election:

“In these dark times with a looming we need a Governor-General who dares to put the well-being of Mordusians before his personal ambitions and pull the emergency brake before we end up as a nuclear wasteland owned by the Seleyan Union.”

These are the main issues found on the Siegfied campaign's website:

----------------

+ No to membership in the Seleyan Union. Mordusia should start honoring its proud tradition of being a neutral state.
+ Reintroduction of this of Mordusia. Because it looks better.
+ Prevent war with Saridan at all cost. Re-ratify the Mordusian Neutrality Pact. Tell those well-tanned warmongers to go back to Hawu Mumene.
+ Cut taxes. Cut spending. Take the government out of things that the free market handles better, such as. With neutrality, Mordusia can also make big cuts to the foreign ministry.
+ Increased diversification in the education system.
+ Luthoran should remain the sole official language of Mordusia.
+ Cancel the Olympic games or at least privatize it so tax payers won't have to pay for what seems to be a gigantic fiasco.

NEW PARTY BURSTS ONTO THE SCENE

A new political party, the Democrats, have become the newest party in Mordusian politics. Led by Port Alexander born academic Donovan Meyer, the party advocates for liberty and democracy at all cost and believes in a capitalist economy with parts of the economy in transport and utilities being partly nationalised as well as strong government investment in health, welfare and education. The party cites its founding as a response to the attitude of the socialist party to be in bed with the Hosians and pursuing cuts to welfare as well as the insanity of the National Movement, who Meyer says, needs to be stopped only by the unequivocal power of the ballot box. Meyer has selected Rechtenburg economist Nicole Walker to run for Governor-General and for Meyer to head any future Democratic caucuses in Parliament. For the second round, the Dems will give their support to incumbent Helena Glen-Bartholemew.

“NO WAR WITH SARIDAN, PEACE IN OUR TIME!”
Siegfried elected Governor-General, Progress Party wins 44.4% of seats on an anti-war platform.

Image

Alexis Siegfried had this to say about his movement's historic victory in the last elections:

“Dear Mordusians,

I thanks you in for having - in these dire times - given me the opportunity to serve you as your Governor-General!

Let me tell you right now, that I will do everything I can to ensure that there will be no war with Saridan! This was what I promised you, and this is what I shall deliver!

I will contact the National Movement and ask them to form a coalition government with the Progress Party. Yes, some might view them as somewhat fascist. But - unlike the others they do not seek to bring war and terror and death upon millions of innocents. That is more fascist than any policy I have ever heard the National Movement advocate! Especially since this war is not motivated by any remotely connected to Mordusian national interests, but by alien chiefs from the distant nation of Hawu Mamumnes who - living comfortably on the other side of the planet - wants to send our people to their deaths! I will not have that! We - as a nation - will not have that!

Friends, I may not support all of the policies of the Saridani government. But I am not one of their people, so it is not my call to make. I will try to maintain a peaceful and constructive relationship with all of our neighbours, based on mutual respect for our differences and each others national sovereignty. The only way for us to actually bring any reform and freedom and prosperity for both of our nations is not war, but to negotiate a reliable free trade agreement, and hopefully bring a flourishing business relationship between our nations. I am fully prepared to travel to Saridan and met with Curtis Spencer, if that is what it takes to avert the threat of war. Let there be peace in our time!”

Manningham-Buller "saves the world"

Image
Frederick Manningham-Buller watching the election results come in

National Movement chairman Frederick Manningham-Buller has been met by a mixed chorus of outrage, astonishment and ridicule after boasting live on election night television "I am a very proud man today, a very proud Mordusian man: today I have saved the world".

He was referring to an election result in which more than half of the seats were won by parties vigorously opposed to conflict with Saridan.

Manningham-Buller also proclaimed himself as "a true statesman and a man of peace", claiming "Everyone knows if it wasn't for the National Movement and the campaigning we have doing against the war, then the election would have gone to the pro-war parties, and that would have meant World War - the end of life on earth as we know it".

Not everybody appears to be so impressed with him, however. The Church of Mordusia's Bishop of Rechtenburg Jonathan Mayhew, has denounced Manningham-Buller as "an oafish demagogue" and described voting for him as "an act of spiritual despair". The bishop also described his negative comments about Rechtenburg's multiculturalism as "ignorant and irresponsible" and said his comment about the potential destruction of the city being "no big loss" was "appalling beyond words".

Manningham-Buller's remarks about Rechtenburg have also been criticised by Rechtenburg City Council, which passed a motion condemning him.

In response, Manningham-Buller said the bishop and the council were "idiots who don't understand what they're talking about", lamenting that "they don't seem to be very f**king grateful to me for saving their city from devastation, but that's what liberals are like in this country".

National Movement offers to support minority Progress Party government

The National Movement has indicated it would be willing to prop up a minority Progress Party government on a confidence-and-supply basis. Manningham-Buller stated:

I and my party entered the last election with the aim of winning a parliamentary majority in order to form a National Movement government. Our vote share did significantly increase and we did win more seats, and for this I am grateful to our voters. However, we did not win nearly enough seats to be able to form a National Movement government - and for this, of course, I take full responsibility.

The Progress Party performed spectacularly well in the last election, winning over 28 million votes and over 43% of the vote. Technically they are just short of a majority, but nevertheless, it is overwhelmingly clear that the national mood and the momentum is with the Progress Party. It is also clear that the Mordusian people have voted for peace with Saridan.

I myself have a lot of respect for the Progress Party, and although I have my differences with them, share many of their values. My National Movement colleagues overwhelmingly share the same outlook as me on this.

In our view, it would be in the national interest for the Progress Party to form a minority government, The National Movement will support this administration on a confidence-and-supply basis. We will support them in their bid to make peace with Saridan, and on general legislative matters, we will support them where we think they are right, but constructively oppose where we think they are wrong.
