Yesterday, however, four Indralan olympians had the unique blessing to get closer to both, receiving guidance and instruction in the Way of Archery directly from His Imperial Majesty, the Son of Heaven. The Tianshun Emperor, who spoke to the olympians without the usual silk screen dividing his divine face from the gaze of the commoner, encouraged the olympians to apply themselves to their sport.
Archery is one of Indrala's two official national sports, however Indralan athletes returned home from the 4280 Summer Olympics in shame, having not placed in any of the archery competitions. His Imperial Majesty, who is known for his skill in and partiality for the Way of Archery, surely desires a greater result in the 4300 Summer Olympics.
Speaking at a press conference today, the four olympians expressed their profound gratitude for having been bestowed such an audience with the Son of Heaven. With tears in their eyes, each olympian promised to work harder to deliver a gold medal for Indrala. "When I left the Imperial Palace, I couldn't stop weeping," said 19-year-old archery protege Liu Qianlong, "who am I to have received such a great gift?"
Among the individuals receiving instruction was the Emperor's grandson, Prince Jianlong, 16. Sources say that the Emperor is very fond of his eldest grandchild, spending time with him frequently and instructing him personally in the Jienist Classics, among other things. The young prince is said to have a strong aptitude for athletic activities, such as horseback riding, martial arts, archery, swordsmanship and cuju, much like his Holy Grandfather during his youth. His Imperial Majesty's filial love for his grandson was demonstrated most clearly by the gifting of his
most prized horse to Prince Jianlong early this spring.
Yi Clan scion joins Armed Forces following mandatory National Service 14 May 4393Left: Yi Liancheng in the Armed Forces; Right: Yi in his study at the Yi Clan Pavillion, age 18.Yi Liancheng, the twenty-one year old scion of the Yi Clan has announced that he will be joining the Armed Forces following the end of his mandatory two years of national service. The young noble began his compulsory training at age 19. Yi is the only son among six siblings and thus he will become the patriarch of the Yi Clan and inherit the vast Yi fortune upon the death of his noble father, Lord Yi Kaichung.
Speaking to reporters outside of his army base, Yi said that he is willing to sacrifice his "body and soul" in serving the Tianshun Emperor, as well as "performing [his] duties alongside [his] brothers for the security of the people." The Yi Clan has been openly dismissive toward the civilian management of the Ministry of Defence, and the decline of Indrala's military strength. Yi Kaichung has called for a greater role for the Emperor in the management of the Armed Forces.
"How is it that the father of Indrala cannot play a role in the protection of his children?" asked Lord Yi during an interview in 4288, "we should not cripple the capabilities of the Son of Heaven. We cannot claim to be a Jienist nation when we reject basic
xiao."
Exhibition of Lady Feihung's paintings held at Xinyi Women's University 20 May 4393Image of Lady Feihung (left) against a backdrop of her painting "Hills of Shu 2"Lady Feihung's colourful ink-and-brush landscape paintings have attracted the attention of Indrala's artistic community, including XWU's Faculty of Fine Arts which will be hosting an exhibition of her work from May 30th-June 25th. The fifteen-year-old noblewoman
is the only child of Viscount Rear Admiral Wang Xiaofu (68) and Princess Jieyou (50).
Lady Feihung was inspired to begin painting landscapes following a tour of Southern Indrala with her uncle, Prince Wanjun, along with her brothers Prince Jianlong and Prince Jianhao. In a written artistic statement from Lady Feihung to the exhibition, she writes that "the emotional landscapes of our Southern provinces puzzle [her]; a riddle written by Heaven and the Gods, unravelled by our ancestors and yet never solved. A mysterious land of jade mountains reaching for the sky, low rivers and colourful fields. Images which have not yet faded from [her] mind; lest they ever do."
Unlike her Sun Clan matrilineal relatives who tend to apply themselves at athletic and intellectual pursuits, Lady Feihung reportedly practices the performing and visual arts from dusk til dawn. With no son to continue his family line, the progressive Viscount Wang has encouraged and patronized his daughter's creative talents to a great extent. Last spring, the Viscount built a traditional Guidao garden at his Shencheng mansion to serve as a creative space for Lady Feihung.
It is expected that Lady Feihung will attend Kyung-hee Imperial College after she takes her ISAT examination next year.
