Government Defeated

Feb 4367

The governing parties lost their majority in the legislative elections, with all three governing parties losing seats, the PNP bearing the brunt of the losses with its members of the national assembly reduced from 88 to 66. The Movimento Nacional do Tukarali (MNT) were the big winners of the night, increasing their share of the vote from 6% to over 23%, gaining over 9 million votes and 47 seats to produce their best result since the 4351 legislative elections. In the Presidential election Pedro Reis of the PRT won election in the second round of the vote, defeating Washington Lima da Silva of the MNT with 54% of the vote. In bizarre circumstances the PNP and the MI both backed the Socialists candidate Benedito Gomes in the first round of the Presidential vote, who came in last with 22% of the vote, despite the PNP, MI and Socialists collectively receiving nearly 47%.

Rodrigues Resigns as leader of the PNP

Mar 4367

Following the PNP’s loss of a quarter of its seats in the National Assembly in last month’s legislative elections, the Chancellor and leader of the PNP Adelmar Rodrigues has resigned as leader of the PNP following a vote of no confidence amongst the party’s elected representatives. Rodrigues had led the party since its foundation in 4358 and had led the party to electoral successes in 4359 and 4364, joining the government as Chancellor in Sep 4359 and managing a coalition government for seven and a half years. He steered the party through the middle ground balancing right and left-wing elements within the PNP, although with his resignation and the loss of a number of left-leaning representatives it is likely the PNP will shift to the right if it enters opposition. Rodrigues has said he will stay on as Chancellor until a new government is elected.

VALRUZIA PUTS FORWARD THE MULTINATIONAL CORPS PROPOSAL
Nowogard, April 4381

Image
Proposed logo of the Multinational Corps - Seleya North

NOWOGARD - It seems like Nowogard not willing to give up the momentum it gained with Minister's Izabela Vinciguerra bold response to the Hutorian military threats made against Aldegar, now sees it as a perfect opportunity to implement some measures strengthening the Seleyan Union. In a stepped-up process, the Valruzian Ministry for Foreign Affairs has prepared the Convention on the Multinational Corps - Seleya North which would be responsible for protecting the Seleyan Union. Apparently, Valruzia and Lodamun have already come up to an agreement and Lodamun was the first to announce its participation in the project. Basically, what Nowogard is trying to do is to fully implement the Article 7 of the Treaty on Seleyan Union, which says that the Member States will set up a defense force to protect the Union as a whole, to life. With more and more threats to the Seleyan Union, Nowogard wants to establish a collective defense unit which will be able to quickly respond to any threats against Seleyan Union, as well act as a deterrent for its hostiles. Analysts say that the formation will enable the Seleyan Union to influence countries like Likatonia and Saridan which in recent years turned hostile towards the Union. The MC-SN will especially give the Seleyan Union a way to at least try to influence the authorities in Saridan which in recent months have decided to turn Saridan into a rouge-like state with slavery and slave-trade legalized. With numerous reports from Council of Seleya and Gloria Iustitia calling for a quick response to the situation in Saridan, which according to Gloria Iustitia has become the most oppressive state in Seleya, and successively denies Gloria Iustitia and Council of Seleya observers the right to monitor the situation in the country, it is certain that the upcoming months will be deciding whether the Member States will take a larger responsibility on their shoulders.

According to sources connected with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the joint committee of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Ministry of National Defense has agreed to put Hel as the proposed headquarters for the new organization (under the jurisdiction of the Seleyan Union). Multinational Corps of the Seleyan Union would be responsible for monitoring the international situation and be tasked with rapid response to threats made against the Seleyan Union, as well taking part in different international operations. Vinciguerra believes that the recent crisis between Aldegar and Hutori will push other Members of the Seleyan Union to take part in the process and that Seleyan Union will be finally able to effectively defend itself from external threats. As for the numbers, it is not certain how many soldiers and what sort of equipment will be assigned to the Multinational Corps - Seleya North, but it is certain that it will include all three basic branches of the military force: land forces, air force, and the navy. According to sources connected with MOND, Valruzia is ready to assign as much as 8 thousand soldiers to permanent duty within the Corps. Valruzia puts its hopes to increased cooperation with its neighbors, its largest economic partner - the State of Baltusia, Democratic Republic of Lodamun, Federal Union of Gaduridos and the Democratic Republic of Tukarali. Despite the initial plan to only include Valruzia, Lodamun, Baltusia, and Gaduridos in the Corps, Nowogard has decided that more broad solution is necessary and has decided to invite other states mainly Aldegar and Tukarali.

Tukarali Cinema Institute founded as People's Socialist Party looks to invest in "a profitable and promising industry"
SANGON - The government parties have approved a bill presented by the People's Socialist Party (Partido Socialista do Povo) proposing the legalization of movies and the consequent foundation of the Tukarali Cinema Institute. The chancellor of Tukarali, who is also the leader of the People's Socialist Party, said to the Tukarese News Agency "I'm extremely happy with the decision made by the National Assembly and I seriously hope we can work together in the future to make sure our movies industry flourishes as it should. This is a very profitable and promising industry which I think needs our investment. We need to look at ways of diversifying our economy and developing faster and that's what we are doing with this". Other parties like the Tukarese Democratic Union and the SocioLiberal Democratic Party have voted for the bill with the lastest stating it "is a giant pass into a better country". The National Conservative Union of Tukarali is the only party that voted against it.
The people of Tukarali look pleased with the new bill and hope it can benefit them. One said "This is a great idea! We hope it will really benefit the common people and not just those on the top". Another person stated that the ban of movies was completely non-sense and this new bill is just a victory for common-sense. However, the approval wasn't unanimous. Some fear this bill may be a step towards the elimination of Tukarali's traditional values and culture. One person even said "The movies industry is just full of despicable things which go totally against our traditional values. This government can't do this and expect us to be silent". One protest against the new movies industry is going to be held in the capital, Sangon. Support for the newly implemented idea is going to take place in the form of another protest, which is reported to probably gather more people.

Sangon International Airport may be expanded and modernized
SANGON - Rumours have surged that the local government and the central one are working on a plan to expand and modernize the Sangon International Airport. Currently, it's already one of the busiest airports in Seleya however that may not be enough in the eyes of Tukarali's government. The discussion about a possible bid to host the 4410 World Cup has strengthened the idea that the capital's airport may get its biggest expansion and modernization ever. The chancellor has refused to comment the rumours and the local government has only said that they are looking at ways of developing the region faster and of increasing its relevance internationally.
The rumours have been greeted with mixed feelings by those living in Sangon. Supporters of the idea say it will only benefit the region and the country overall increasing travel fluxes between Sangon and other cities bringing more people, more money and more investment. Those who oppose it say it will only benefit some and will cost too much money that could be used for other things such as healthcare, education and affordable housing.

Tukarali launches bid to host 4410 World Cup
SANGON - The President Miguel Mansilha has announced the desire of Tukarali to host the next FIFA World Cup in Terra. The bid has been finally drafted more than 2 years after the idea was approved by the National Assembly with the yes votes of the two largest political parties, the People's Socialist Party and the National Conservative Union of Tukarali. The President has spoken to the Tukarese News Agency and explained the meaning behind the logo and the slogan of the proposed event "We are extremely happy to present this bid to host the next World Cup in Terra. This is a great opportunity not just to see good football but also to bring countries together and make the world we live in a better place with more peace and more prosperity. That's what our slogan 'Not Just Football' consists on. We believe this is an event that includes way more than football, it's a way of countries forgetting their differences and being united by their love for this great sport. Our logo also represents that, the unity that should caracterize our world. And what better country to carry this message forward than Tukarali? We are recognized as a neutral and peaceful nation by most and we want to keep it that way. It would be an incredibly big honour to host this event".
The Chancellor Gonçalo Baldaia, who signed the official declaration of the bid, revealed to TNA that the country is working on a infrastructure plan for the World Cup. That infrastructure plan may include the construction of new stadiums and the renewal and expansion of existing ones and the expansion and modernization of the transports system. Such a plan would only start being applied however if Tukarali's bid wins. Sangon will welcome both the welcoming and the closing ceremonies. Other 9 cities are expected to welcome the event under the bid proposal. The bid has gathered a group of sponsors since its announcement, all of them based in Tukarali, Kyuma Industries, KafuriTech, Inc., Tukarali Cinema Institute, Tucan Air, Tukarali National Central Bank and the Tukarese News Agency. We will be the official media partner of the event if the bid gets approved.

Lourenne Minister of Foreign Affairs visits Tukarali and holds meeting with President Miguel Mansilha
SANGON - History has just been made in Tukarali. For the first time in decades, a minister from another country has visited Tukarali. Phillipe Orléans, Lourenne's Foreign Affairs Minister, landed in the capital Sangon to then meet the President, Miguel Mansilha. Before the meeting with the president, Orléans, who was greeted in the airport by Tukarese high-ranking officials, met Tukarese activists and visited some of the most emblematic places of the city. Then he went to the National Assembly where he met President Miguel Mansilha and held a talk of about 1 hour with him just before giving a speech to the members of the National Assembly. In his speech, Orléans showed gratitude to the President of Tukarali for his invitation and cooperative spirit. President Miguel Mansilha also gave a speech characterizing the meeting as "very pleasant and productive". For him, it was "a historic day for both Tukarali and Lourenne".
TNA spoke with President Miguel Mansilha while he was leaving the National Assembly building. He said "This is historic! I'm extremely happy that this meeting happened and extremely thankful to Phillipe Orléans for accepting to come here and hold talks with us. We hope this is the start of a strong relation between our two countries". Asked if he is preparing another meeting with a foreign minister or even a world leader, Miguel Mansilha replied "For now, we have nothing prepared. However, I hope we can have more meetings like these. It can only be beneficial to us". For now, we can only celebrate the good outcome of this meeting between Tukarali and Lourenne. After all, Kyuma Industries is set to expand itself to Lourenne and people may start to travel between Tukarali and Lourenne thanks to an agreement, including Tucan Air, that expands their routes to include destinations in Lourenne. Also, the 4410 World Cup bid by Tukarali has received a thumbs up from Lourenne.

People's Socialist Party Conference strengthens mandate of current leadership
SANGON - The People's Socialist Party has held its second conference since it was founded and the first in almost a year. The conference, attended by more than 200 thousand people, resulted in a strengthened mandate to the current leadership. However, it wasn't without any difficulties. There was opposition further to the left and opposition closer to the center. From the conference came out a radical left-wing platform strengthening the role of the state in the economy, providing more rights and freedoms to the people and promoting social and economic equality. Gonçalo Baldaia has spoken to TNA about the conference "The members of the party showed us all they are happy with the current leadership and want to see us keep leading this country. That's what we are going to do". Baldaia has also stated he hopes the party can win a majority of the seats in the National Assembly in the next election, that's to be held in May of 4407.
The party, besides writing its platform for the 4407 election, has also held elections for its main roles. Using ranked-choice voting, the current incumbents won their elections. Gonçalo Baldaia had 2 opponents in his race to be reelected as the party leader but won by a clear margin, 86% of the people voted for him. Other party incumbents had more difficulties. Sofia Henriques got reelected as the party's spokesperson after a surprising showing by Nicolas Sodré who had received just 16% of first preference votes (4th place among 5 candidates) but went to the final round. Matilde Raposo also had a difficult race against Tamara Zagalo to keep her role as elections manager. Felipe Silva won by a wide margin his reelection for policy advisor against Jorge Accardi, of Istalian ancestry. Beatriz Dorje, of Mu-Tze ancestry, got reelected as the leader of Young Socialists with an absolute majority in first-preference votes. In the presidential primary, Miguel Mansilha, who decided to run for the third time, won with an absolute majority in first-preference votes.

Thanks to abstention, Tukarali becomes the 9th country to vote yes on the General Assembly's Resolution #1
SANGON - The Socialist People's Party bill to provide 1% of the foreign affairs budget to funding World Congress operations has passed in the National Assembly after all other parties decided to abstain. This proposal is part of the General Assembly's Resolution #1 and, with the result of this voting, Tukarali becomes just the 9th country to approve it. It's one more victory for a party that claims itself to be internationalist in a country that prefers to be out of the international spotlight.

National Assembly votes for Health Reform giving more power to local governments
SANGON - In a surprising move, the People's Socialist Party presented a bill giving more power to local governments with the support of the Tukarese Democratic Union, a known advocate of devolution policies. Thanks to abstentions from the Democratic SocioLiberal Party and the Left Patriotic Front, the bill was approved by the National Assembly despite the against vote of the National Conservative Union of Tukarali. The bill is considered a landmark in our country's legislations as it ends the ban on the use of medicinal cannabis and gives that power to local governments. Boruska, whose local government is controlled by the People's Socialist Party, may be the first region to legalize the use of medicinal cannabis. Morata Valley, Shrin Kali and Lago Kwantu have already announced the ban on the use of medicinal cannabis won't be lifted. Other approved measures include the end of the national ban on the sale of tobbaco, smoking and advertising of harmful and addictive substances. Local governments may also, from now on, set health and safety regulations for industry and determine food safety standards. In addition to this, vaccinations are now mandatory, unless there's valid religious or ideological reasons against them.
The People's Socialist Party spokesperson, Sofia Henriques, has classified this bill as just a first step towards more freedom and more health. In the streets, there's differents opinions. One person said "I don't think the central government should have a say when it comes to these issues so I obviously support this. People don't want too much centralized governments, there must be a balance". However, another person was completely against it accusing the government of trying to legalize drugs and to bring immorality to Tukarali. Civil liberties are a hot topic here and will always be, in a month we have elections and certainly these issues will be crucial to who wins them.
