Tang Zijing Resigns

Following the landslide defeat of the Republican League, the leader Tang Zijing has announced that he would step down and take the responsibility for the historical defeat not seen since Chen Tianwei first led the party.

As nationalistic parties such as the NF and NDP rose to the national stage, the League has lost its unique message for a stable republic, but instead was blamed for the Republican camp's failure in transforming the nation throughout its 20-year rule. Since then, the League has steadily lost support, with many party members calling for a change of party line.

This resignation will likely be followed by a leadership election amd review of the party platform. Some inside the League has hinted that the party may lose its radical Republican and Conservative image and instead focus on economic issues. Some are even saying that the party should break ties with the Communists to show their change of direction.

The only thing certain of the League's future is the uncertainty that will ensue after this resignation.

Xi addresses a media scrum in the Grand Assembly Building

TIAN'AN, Han: Speaking in a surprise press conference this morning, Xi Rushi announced her intention to step down as Lotus Party Leader after nearly 20 years at the helm.

“I did my best to sow a seed of pro-democratic patriotism,” Xi said, “but what I have offered has fallen short of meeting people’s expectations.”

Speaking on the political situation, Xi said her party’s slipping electoral performance is indicative of the quality of her leadership.

“It is all because of my shortcomings,” Xi said, “The buck stops here: I will take some time to look back on my deeds before recommitting myself to the pro-democratic movement.”

Xi is resigning despite remarkably high approval ratings among Lotus Party members and supporters. The 62-year-old politician plans to remain in the Party’s parliamentary caucus.

Xi said she decided to resign in advance of the next general election so that the incoming Leader would have an opportunity to unite the caucus and campaign properly. The next Lotus Party Leader will be elected at the 4413 National Party Conference in Shencheng.

Shencheng, Han Province: In a result which few could predict, Li Jinyu has been elected Lotus Party Leader with a stunning 60.1% of the popular vote. This is the Lotus Party’s second largest Leadership election mandate, following Kwan Zhiyong who won 61.8% in 4298.

Shortly after midnight, Li took the stage at the Party’s National Conference in Shencheng, Min Province to deliver his acceptance speech. Li bowed once to his predessor, the outgoing Leader Xi Rushi, and once more to the greater crowd.

“I thank the party membership for handing me a landslide victory. I solemnly accept the party’s support.”

Li first became known nationwide as a poet when he was 16 years old, noted for his unique ability to effectively write in a variety of styles. Since then, Li’s books and poems have been bestsellers in Indrala as well as internationally, with his work being translated into 50 languages and selling millions of copies domestically and abroad. Li’s works are characterized by the recurrence of themes such as love, feminism, longing, grief, and humanity's relationship with nature and technology.

Image
International editions of three of Li's books, from left to right: Tulips in an Alphabet (Luthorian), Wait for Me (Kyo), As Dust (Kunikata).

Many observers expect Li's administration of the party to be more left-leaning than his predecessors. Li has been an outspoken ecological conservationist for a number of years, and is predicted to modify the Lotus Party's laissez-faire approach to environmental regulation among other policy changes. Additionally, though Li is an avowed and dedicated monarchist, the newly-elected Leader took a softer approach than the last Lotus Party Leader Xi Rushi to the republican-monarchist divide in his acceptance speech:

“There’s not a republican Indrala and a monarchist Indrala; there’s a one people’s Indrala!”

Image

National unity was a major theme throughout Li's acceptance speech as he begins to campaign in advance of the 4417 General Election. “As Chief Counselor, I will make a just and united country,” Li told the crowd. “I will be a Chief Counselor who also serves all the people who did not support me.”

The Market is a nationally-published daily economic newspaper centred in Tian'an. While the paper remains generally non-partisan, critics have observed a tendency for the paper to publish articles which generally support classically liberal economic policies and the established economic order of Indrala.

TQ Group acquires Huzhengjiu for $3.4b

Huzhengjiu's iconic Huzheng Estuary Winery

KAIZHOU, Jiaozhi Province: TQ Group has just finished a deal to acquire Huzheng Liquor Company for approximately $3.4 billion in cash and stocks. Huzhengjiu will remain an independently-branded subsidiary of the caizu giant, though the conglomerate is expected to radically increase production over the next few years. The transaction should go through this quarter pending some standard closing procedures.

"Huzhengjiu has been a household brand for people in Jiaozhi Province for generations," said TQ CFO Tan Huiyin. "TQ Group is excited to have the opportunity to share Huzhengjiu's unique quality and craftsmanship to even more consumers domestically and abroad."

Many market analysts suspect that the acquisition has been influenced by the FCR Group's near-domination of the consumer food product market through their subsidiary, Kyuma Industries.

Prior to the acquisition, Huzhengjiu was owned by a moderately wealthy family from Yincheng, Jiaozhi. Huzhengjiu had been in the family for nearly 600 years, and had grown to become Jiaozhi's best selling liquor manufacturer specializing in beer, wine, whisky, soju and baijiu. The company, however, has had trouble growing amid stiff competition from Southern and international producers.

KAIZHOU, Jiaozhi Province: Organizers of the autumn/winter Kaizhou Fashion Week, the global industry's highlight, have announced that attendance at fashion shows exceeded 146,000 people. On average, attendance is around 120,000 for each of the semiannual showcases. The direct economic impact of the event on Kaizhou's local economy is estimated at $930 million.

Due to the ongoing situation in Southern Indrala, where republican paramilitaries remain active and on standby, the event in Kaizhou also had the most extensive security in its history, with National Police Agency and military officials cooperating on the best strategy to secure points of interest.

TQ Tower sticks out from the Hazhou skyline

HAZHOU, Shu Province: Indrala's largest and oldest operational caizu conglomerate, Xiandai Group has announced that they will be rebranding all corporate subsidaries around a new logo. The logo is a simplified graphic highlighting the company's name; gone is the iconic stylized phoenix logo.

"The logo represents the image of a good company that Xiandai seeks to project – a warm, confident, powerful and sustainable enterprise," said Wang Ruogang (Director of Marketing).

The logo redesign comes as Xiandai Group released its Q3 financial report, posting a 4% lower operating profit than just three months earlier. Xiandai Group has experience sluggish growth for the better part of two decades now, as the legacy caizu has experienced trouble remaining competitive. Furthermore, disruptive policies introduced by the Republican-Communist government did not assist economic growth, with many firms experiencing a sharp fiscal contraction during this period.

Nonetheless, the Wang family owned conglomerate is optimistic that it will remain Indrala's top firm. Earlier in the quarter, aging Chairman Wang Jinhuan resigned in favour of his younger half-brother Vice-Chairman Wang Huanyu. The new Chairman is widely viewed as a visionary business leader responsible for the successful launch of the company's X Model Sedan. Analysts predict that under Wang Huanyu's leadership the conglomerate may be willing to explore alternative sources of revenues and make bolder venture decisions, crucial for the caizu's continued success.

DJP: YONG TO TAKE OVER AS SECRETARY-GENERAL

MUDANWAN, Min: Democratic Justice Party (DJP) has announced in an emergency press conference that the party has voted Yong Jian Hong as the next Secretary-General of the esteemed party.

Yong, 30 years old, is said to have won the hearts of the party committee in full 100% votes, and will duly takeover Han Wei Yi as the next Spiritual Leader of DJP.

Han thanked the people and the party for their past 15 years of support. However, Han has said he will remain in the committee of the cyan-themed party as a core member, continuing to guide the youths in the Indralan politics scene.

He said: "Without the people's trust in us, this party would not have been in the Grand Assembly as one of the biggest parties. This change could be drastic for some, but it's time for the youth to lead the party, like how I started out 15 years ago."

The ex-Chief Counselor has also credited Yong, citing him as 'one of the most outspoken member of DJP', and 'a vocal personality who always have the hearts of the people'.

To the surprise of the reporters, Yong has already took over Han in May 4413, but members had agreed to allow the takeover process to be as discreet as possible, and will only announce once he felt ready.

In his first interview with the press, Yong stated that he will continue the tradition of DJP of neutrality, but had proposed for some minimal changes to the policy.

The new incoming leader revealed: "The ongoing debate of the cabinet proposals by two sides -- the Republicans and the Monarchists, have included in DJP as one of the parties to be in the seating. That's a good thing, (this shows that) we are playing an important role in their way of governance. But after discussions with the members, we have finally decided to abstain from both proposals, simply because we are in the middle of their conflicts... if we were to stay neutral, this is what we have to do."

Will DJP be despised and left out by constantly sitting on the fence?

"If they (the other parties of Indrala) were to think this way, let them be. I'm not Han -- he has the patience to repeat our ideologies to the various parties constantly; I don't. Either they get it, or they don't," replied Yong.

When probed about withdrawing votes during proposals, Yong said: "During the period of time, there was a change of leadership (between me and Han). Han has the way of leading the party to vote for a proposal he deemed as best for the country, in which I agree. But if we were to stay neutral, especially with two coalitions with different ideologies doing their proposals against one another, how can we stay neutral again by voting 'yes' to one and not the other?"

Will there one day be a scene where internal conflicts happen if both Han and Yong have different decision-making?

Han answered: "Any decisions we make, we (the committee members of DJP) have to agree fully. There will be discussions after discussions, but the decision presented in the Assembly will be final and the agreed views of members in hundred percent. I wish Yong well in leading the party, and he will definitely do well for us... he's a talent."

Yong Jian Hong, a law graduate from Tian'an National University, was recruited by Democratic Justice Party in 4410, in which he was widely-known as the 'fiercest Indralan' by the people for fighting to illegalise child labour in the Grand Assembly. Should he maintain his political personality after officially taking on the prominent leadership of DJP, he could become one of the fearsome leader in Indrala which political parties will look out for.

Inaugural Zhijia Grand Hotel & Resort Opens in Jugang

Capitalizing on the new attention for the isolated eastern city of Jugang, as part of a larger development plan for increasing the city's attractiveness for investment and tourism, the FangCaiRyeo Group has officially opened the first hotel in their newly established chain, Zhijia Grand Hotel. This vast hotel resort and conference center connects with a newly revitalized golf course that is located amid the rocky cliffs and rolling hills of Jugang's eastern peninsula. The design of the hotel mirrors that of an imperial palace, a homage to the hotel's location very near to the Green Palace of Jugang, which expects to complete renovations within the next three years.

Fangrong Motors Absorbed into Kyuma Motors
11 October 4413

Seeking to streamline operations within the FangCaiRyeo Group's automotive sector, it has been announced that Fangrong Motors will be completely absorbed into Kyuma Motors. Fangrong, unique to the Indralan market, has existed as a company that re-badges the passenger vehicles produced by Kyuma Motors but beyond that it has not produced any unique models. For this reason, all automotive manufacturing is being shifted to Kyuma and the practice of re-badging will be discontinued. Fangrong factories within Indrala will now be operated directly by Kyuma Motors and plans are in the works for the expansion of some factors in order to facilitate the introduction of Kyuma's manufacturing of buses and trucks.

Kaizhou Facing Lawsuit Amid Feud in Zhijia City
11 May 4414

Image
Nicknamed "Jiyu's Dollhouse," the Zhijia City mansion has set off a firestorm of controversy and lawsuits

The eccentric daughter of FangCaiRyeo founder, Lü Seojun, has ignited a flurry of criticism among neighbors and the local council over her newly constructed home in the outer edge of Zhijia City. Lü Jiyu, a self-proclaimed fashionista who is most known for her failed attempt to win control of Fànsīzhé, is otherwise known for her high-profile appearances at private functions without an invitation. Even after being apportioned her own label within the Fànsīzhé fashion house, she remained unsatisfied with the extent of support given to her by her brother, Lü Seongmin, the current Chairman of FCR Group. Nonetheless, Lü Jiyu has seen growth in her own personal wealth built off of her mildly successful design label and her excessive, risky investments in random upstarts and small-time, obscure artists/designers. Observers believe others in the Lü Clan are just waiting for her personal empire to collapse and all her wealth with it.

Outside of her family it is possible that some might even wish for her downfall; certainly such attitudes have been evident since the construction of her new home, nicknamed by locals as "Jiyu's Dollhouse." With zero congruence to the local architecture, the oddly designed home seems to borrow from a variety of foreign designs. And in the backyard is a grand patio and pool, at which Lü Jiyu often hosts loud parties and personal fashion shows on a catwalk that extends to the middle of the pool. Neighbors have quickly become frustrated in the short time that she has inhabited the lot due to frequent loud parties, makeshift fashion shows, and obnoxious architecture. There are also claims that her poodle defecates on neighbor's doorsteps.

The Central Committee of Zhijia City has now gotten involved after receiving dozens of letters from residents on the street. An initial notice that was posted on Lü Jiyu's front door after her refusal to answer for city officials was later torn from the door, ripped up, and thrown into the street. Later that night, another party was held and Kaizhou Metropolitan Police arrived, forcing an end to the event. However, this was not without a major scene being caused by Lü Jiyu, who tripped into a stereo, breaking both the stereo and a window. Lü has now claimed the police deliberately pushed her and has filed a lawsuit against the city of Kaizhou. An additional lawsuit has been filed against the Central Committee and two specific neighbors alleging harassment. Lü could not be reached for comment and the Lü Clan has scattered to disassociate itself with the affair in Zhijia City.

New Dawn Leads Campaign for Regional Empowerment, Digital Democracy
18 May 4414

Image
The fishing industry was at the center of the early campaign for decentralized power

New Dawn has led the charge in a successful campaign to increase the power of provincial and city governments, taking away the broad power held by Tian'an over a number of heavily localized issues. The central focus of this campaign has been on agriculture and fisheries but has since expanded to include infrastructure and education. The party also had success in reforming the national court system, formalizing the authority of regional courts to decide on laws, ending the uniform system that previously operated out of Tian'an.

While the platform of New Dawn never expressly took an interest in regionalism, recent politics have led the party to look at how to establish a more efficient democratic process for the people. Without an official government for a number of years due to a mix of incompetence and indecisiveness among the authoritarian coalition, New Dawn took an express interest in localizing power. Party Leader Lü Jaewoo has applauded the ability of local governments to best serve the people and provide the most responsive governance, as compared to the disconnect and lack of understanding that can exist from politicians in Tian'an. "How can we expect the right fishery policy for Jugang from a Tian'an urbanite and, in the reverse, how can we expect representatives from Jugang to hold responsibility in directing policies that specifically affect Tian'an."

The party also sees two other aspects to regionalism. The first is that regional empowerment creates a greater barrier to authoritarian power, something that was witnessed under the last coalition of chaos a number of years ago. Secondly, New Dawn views greater regional political power as a way to more easily pursue the development of one of their primary platform points, digital democracy. On the national scale it is likely not possible or it is at least very difficult, but with political power more vested in smaller locales the idea of Indralan digital democracy is plausible.

Tian'an, Han - A statement by the NDP Chairman, and the Chief Counselor of the State of Indrala:

This is an official statement by the Chief Counselor, authorized by the State:
Image
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We would like to thank the Military Party, and the Lotus Party for their assistance in the deescalation of the recent national crisis, which has led to many to speculate that we may be headed to civil war. It is time for the Republican Guard to do the same.

With the dismantling of all checkpoints in Jiaozhi, and the disarmament of Shu monarchist extremists, the NDP has made the decision to lower the alert of the Republican Guard - we are no longer in a state of National Emergency. There is still ongoing volunteering across the nation to join the Guard, due to the aftershocks of a scare of monarchist paramilitaries. The Guard will continue its mission in protecting Republicanism - part of which is protecting Republicans. Any type of reprisals on innocent monarchist civilians, as always, will be punished according to the rule of law.

I also bring a message to Republicans across the nation - Indrala runs off of the premise that an Indralan should never initiate aggression against another Indralan. Though the monarchists differ from us in many ways, they are Indralans nonetheless. Bar the one fool, they have not disrupted this unspoken rule - and so I say, neither should we! I know that there are currently some concerns regarding the actions of some noble families, moving their assets, and in some cases, themselves abroad. I firmly believe that this is well within their rights to do so - however, if stable governance is the goal, then I would ask that such families do not paint themselves the villain to ordinary Indralans.

Regarding the fool who attempted murder on NDP member 譚天子 (Tan Tianzi), and who also attempted the bombing of a NDP office:
Unfortunately, this is a case that is still under investigation, we now have a list of prime suspects. We would like to thank the Military Party, who, though having sparred in the Assembly against us, and sharing a vastly different vision for our nation than us, who have volunteered, with their current and retired military minds to assist the NDP in this case of domestic terrorism. Though we disagree profoundly on many issues, we cannot ignore the good work that they have done in conjunction with the Republican Guard, and the instruments of state:
Image
Patriots of a different stripe!

We would ask that whoever comes up on top in the coming elections to set up a non-partisan committee to investigate these heinous acts of treason, regardless of whether the coalition will be of a republican or monarchist affiliation.

With 9 bills on the floor, and an election to come, the crisis may not yet be over - the dissolution of the DJP showed that - however, it does appear that stability is returning to Indrala. And this, fellow Indralans, is something we ought to all celebrate.

Long live Indrala!

This is an official statement by the Chief Counselor, authorized by the State, broadcast 2 hours after the attack:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fellow Indralans,
Today, we face a great tragedy. 37 dead and 27 injured from a terrorist bombing on July 25th, 4414, a mere 9 days after my call for peace. I will unfortunately have to withdraw NDP support from the proposal for early elections, and would urge other parties to do the same - we cannot have elections right after a terrorist bombing, for safety reasons. To all reading this: stay indoors, and please report any and all suspicious activity to law enforcement. A request has already been sent to the Minister of Defense, for the mobilization of the military to back up the police force immediately (20 mins after attack), as the Han Province garrison has already done so (within 10 mins of attack!). A request has also been sent to the Minister of Justice (50 mins after attack), and the Minister of Internal Affairs (50 mins after attack) to find the perpetrator as soon as possible.

The Republican Guard has been put on high alert (1 hr after attack), and is currently conducting a sweep nationwide for the criminal. The Red Guard and Military Party have both been notified (85 mins after attack). The royal household has also been notified (100 mins after attack). The Tan Clan has dedicated financing aid for the injured (~110 mins after attack).

The Minister of Environment and Tourism has stopped all air travel for today (1 hr after attack). The Minister of Science and Technology has sent resources to assist law enforcement, but the Minister is unfortunately currently in Jiaozhi - he has, however, cancelled all other plans and will return to the crime scene abroad Republican Guard units headed in the same direction. He is expected to arrive shortly.

Of the 27 injured, currently, 4 have been proclaimed to be in critical condition. 2 of the dead were proclaimed dead on arrival. The Minister of Health and Social Services is already on scene.

We will not fall to criminals. We will prevail! The Indralan spirit will not be crushed!
Long live Indrala! Long live the Indralan People!
