I'd put the birth of electronica before 4000: It was used in the Jam in the 4100s and was accepted as part of it without additional comment, so it was well in the bloodstream of Kalistan at least. Not that it was created there, but if it came from another country, that would probably put its foundation and creation of critical mass well before 4000.
2700 would be a good start for Rock. Indie/alternative should be maybe after 300 or 400 years of bobbysox BS, love music, teenybopper nonsense and all the stupidity in the early days of "pop rock". Think an analog being like the birth of psychedelic rock in the mid 60s as a rejection of the earlier formula, pre and post Revolver, for example. And then a splintering of genres after that.
It would put the earliest electronica maybe as early as 3400, as an outgrowth of Alternative. You could have funk come about in 3500ish, and follow that up with a dancepop/Disco reaction perhaps in 3600 ish, and at about the same time, foundations of hiphop are laid. Reggae is established as an outgrowth of hiphop and electronica (especially their production techniques.) and the newish genre, RF, is a recent development of electronica with dub production techniques.
I'd make the case for an earlier development of electronica because a lot of the early hiphop was influenced by funk and disco records, with the use of drum machines eventually replacing straight sampling. That technology needed to be available before the drum machines could utilize it. But when we think of early hiphop, there are few examples of recorded sample/DJ stuff, and most of it is early Run DMC, Def Jams stuff.
A lot of the localized dance stuff can come from the 300 or so years that rock was dominant in Luthori speaking nations. And other regional music could be outgrowths of regionalized folk music.
What do you think?
