Jiyu’s Victory, the First of Many?
1 November 4414

Image

After months of dispute and behind-the-door lawyer negotiations, Lü Jiyu has seemingly achieved victory in her battle with Kaizhou, Zhijia City, and her neighbors. Despite attempts by the Zhijia City Central Committee to quell the disruptive nature of Jiyu’s Dollhouse, their efforts tapered off with odd expediency after a late-night meeting between the Central Committee and supposed representatives of Lü. Although unconfirmed, a local observer claims that the Lü representatives, absent of Jiyu herself, were in vehicles allegedly baring Dalibor diplomatic plates.

On the afternoon of the following day, Lü Jiyu announced that she would end her lawsuit against Kaizhou, declaring that city officials were wasting her time and that the mayor is involved in a conspiracy to impose an anti-cultural campaign to eradicate all forms of art and fashion. Lü went on to announce her inaugural outdoor art exhibition to be held at a yet-to-be-announced public location in central Kaizhou.

Meanwhile, the Central Committee provided an official response to the matter of Jiyu’s Dollhouse in which they lamented their apparent inability to enforce any significant restrictions on Lü’s activities. That night, Lü hosted a somewhat tamer function that revolved around her bemoaning her loneliness in the years since her husband died. What might have been an event that aroused legitimate sympathy for Jiyu quickly shifted towards an energetic call for her friends to help find her a youthful companion to aid in her and her daughter’s artistic vision for Indrala’s future.

Without a doubt this has been a victory for Lü Jiyu and she has not been shy to brag about her triumph over her opposition. Additionally, her increasing separation from the Lü Clan has only strengthened her drive to construct her own independent empire, built upon art, fashion, and zany culture. And indeed, she is finding fans from her national media coverage as increasing numbers have flocked to Jiyu’s Dollhouse, seeking to get a taste of the craziness. Lü Jiyu proclaims, “No invitation required, all are welcome to indulge in artistic venture and transform their vision of society and the world!” She insists however, that you call it Jiyu’s Mansion.

What's Next for Jiyu?

Riding high off of her self-proclaimed defeat of the “evil snakes of city hall,” Lü Jiyu, also literally high at least a third of the week, is laying the foundations for her own personal empire. Safe with her share of inheritance from her father, the Lü Clan is helpless as Jiyu seems increasingly likely to target the family in her desire to bring down the “tightwads in suits” that sit upon the Ryeo fortune. Feeling robbed of her role in both the family business and the affairs surrounding her cousin, Lü Jaewoo, Jiyu is adamant in forging her own independent path forward.

While she has nowhere near the clout of the Lü Clan, let alone any other major Indralan family, she has quirky intrigue that has appealed to, and perhaps even elevated, obscure subcultures of artists, musicians, and unemployed hipsters. But even beyond those of her own mindset, the general population seems to have found a fascination with Jiyu and her life. Her mansion is emerging as a tourist site and much to the disdain of her neighbors, street vendors are popping up all around, seeking to capitalize on the tourist foot traffic in this mostly residential area. One neighbor commented that he has lost hope of a resolution and will probably just have to move away to a new affluent community, one that actually enforces rules against "deviants and the homeless."

Should her neighbors begin vacating the area, Jiyu has expressed her interest in buying up the properties and turning her neighborhood into a district dedicated to the arts. Referencing to the neighbor that was interviewed by the Zhijia Star, Jiyu commented that his house would specifically be made into a shelter and soup kitchen that runs developmental programs for the unemployed and those who have "lost their way in life."

Beyond her neighborhood, information obtained from Lü Ae-cha, Jiyu's daughter, suggests that plans are in the works to establish a hotel chain that mirrors Jiyu's eclectic tastes. If such plans are a reality, it is also a likely jab at the FCR Group's recent entry into the hospitality realm, adding yet another sector to its expansive portfolio. Ae-cha also presented on a conceptualized massive park space and art exhibit to be located in the core of downtown Kaizhou. The plan however, was completely out of touch with the realities of central Kaizhou and the proposed site required the demolition of the headquarters of major caizu, banks, and other national businesses.

Imperial Household Agency makes surprise marriage and birth announcements

The Chief Secretary of the Imperial Household Agency has sent a letter to the Grand Assembly, informing representatives of a number of updates regarding Princes' Jianlong and Jianhao, as well as Princess Fengmian. The letter, which details the marriages of each of the Crown Prince's children, came as a shock to many Indralans who are accustomed to timely and regular updates from the Imperial Household Agency.

Speaking to media outside the Grand Assembly after having delivered the letter, Chief Secretary Li said that the Imperial Household "deeply regrets" not being able to share this information sooner.

"Understanding the precarious political situation in Indrala, the Tianshun Emperor ordered all news to remain confidential since 4412," said Li. "The Son of Heaven did not want his family's affairs to distract from the democratic process or interfere with the negotiations between lawmakers in restoring stability and peace to the island."

In the letter, the Imperial Household Agency announced that all three of the Emperor's grandchildren have been married. Both Princes' wives, as well as Princess Fengmian are pregnant. Both Princes' married noblewomen (from the Yun and Hitara Clans), while Princess Fengmian married a commoner.

Since the announcement this morning, flowers, toys, plushies and other small gifts have been piling up outside the Gate of Supreme Harmony as thousands of Indralans celebrate the happy news. The Imperial Household Agency, out of concern for waste and litter, have respectfully asked people to stop bringing such presents. The Imperial Household Agency has encouraged Indralans to donate to "domestic charities" rather than leave gifts outside the Heavenly City.

Jiyu Shunned, Creates Divide in Clan
1 May 4415

Image
Logo concept for the "House of Jiyu"

The Lü Clan has finally reached its limit in tolerating the affairs of Lü Jiyu, totally cutting off its connections with the increasingly prolific artist. Already irritated by bad press, eccentric outbursts, and the frivolous lawsuits, Jiyu at last provided the final test of her family’s tolerance for her activities. Affixing two modified Ryeo Imperial Standards to the hood of her polka-dot painted car, Jiyu took to the streets of Kaizhou, setting off on a quest to Jugang and the Green Palace.

Jiyu was met at the Green Palace by much confusion among guards that had previously been most occupied with casually monitoring the day-to-day tourist traffic. First stopping to welcome tourists to "one of her many palaces," Jiyu proceeded to drive up the sidewalk to the public entry, running over the rope line before scattered guards surrounded her vehicle and forced her to stop. She then requested to see Jaewoo, her cousin and leader of New Dawn, and refused to leave until she had his audience. Jaewoo, hours away in Tian’an, had to be called in to resolve the situation. In the meantime, Jiyu, closely watched by guards, opened her trunk and unfurled a giant Imperial Standard bearing an artistic rendering of her own face.

Jaewoo’s first sight upon arrival at the Green Palace was Jiyu clumsily trying to hang the banner on a low front wall as guards insisted she stop. Quickly Jaewoo made contact with his cousin, ushering inside with the banner dragged behind. As the incident trended on social media, journalists interviewing FCR Chairman Lü Seongmin about the Rocc-Cola franchise took the opportunity to also ask about Jiyu. Seongmin dismissed the matter and stated, "The family can't allow this, it is in poor taste, a total disrespect to our ancestors. She is unstable, she is pissing away a vast sum of wealth, and I'll speak on my family's behalf saying that she is shunned. I do not wish to answer for her actions, don't ask me about her ever again. She is not a Lü."

Back in Jugang, late in the evening Jiyu quietly departed without much of a scene, returning to her now famous Kaizhou mansion. Jaewoo, head of the family, offered a contrasting statement to that of his cousin Seongmin, still distancing the family from Jiyu but all while expressing concern and promising to protect her. "Jiyu came to me with a business proposal, or perhaps I should say a declaration. She calls in the House of Jiyu, branding for her concept for an organization that houses her planned ventures. It is a desecration of the Ryeo Imperial Standard and I think she has sealed her fate with many in our family who were already greatly frustrated. I don't know, she is not irredeemable. She's...odd, but there is good in her, she's passionate about her interests and ideas, but, most of all, she is family. I worry about her, I don't want her falling into bad company. I've hear lots of things and I worry. While she no longer has a place in official family affairs, I will remain watchful of her, even if I'm the only one. I wish her all the best in her future endeavors even if she insists on contrarianism to much of what is done by others in the clan."

TQ Group daughter ribs Lü Clan scandals at ribbon cutting
14 May 4415
Image
Image
Left: The TQ Pennisula Resort at Jugang; Right: TQ Group Chairman Tang Xiangjian raises his glass to the crowd alongside his daughter, Vice-Chairwoman Tang Sulan

JUGANG, Jiaozhi Province: Few in Jiaozhi have been able to stop talking about Lü Jiyu, the eccentric sister of FangCaiRyeo Group Chairman Lü Seongmin, especially after she made news earlier this month in a public spat with her family. At the TQ Group's ribbon-cutting for the new TQ Pennisula Resort at Jugang, Vice-Chairwoman and heir to the company Tang Sulan couldn't help but jest about the whole situation.

"I'm lucky to receive the close mentorship of my father," Tang said. "If I ever need him, he's just a phone call away. Luckily, I've never had to drive my car into his house to speak with him!"

Despite her many jokes about Jiyu, it wasn't so long ago that Tang had a reputation as “a good-time girl." Nightclub exploits with her sister Tang Suying, a YingPop film star and singer incurred her father’s wrath. He threatened to disinherit her in 4400 when a boyfriend was arrested for Triad-related activities. She dropped the boyfriend immediately, though she had publicly said she had no interest in participating in the family business, instead choosing to bide her time by operating a number of luxury boutiques across Kaizhou.

Following the sudden and accidental death of her eldest-brother during a ski vacation in Kazulia, however, Tang's father quickly began grooming her to take over the company as his successor. The gamble on his party-girl daughter seems to have paid off to the surprise of many within the company and wider business community. As Vice-Chairman of TQ Group, Sulun has earned a reputation as an aggressive and driven executive who has perfected the craft of making deals, picking shrewd investments, and going head-to-head with competitors.

While most market analysts agree that Xiandai Group is Indrala's largest conglomerate, TQ and FCR are often tied. Thus, the move to build a hotel/resort in Jugang two years after the Zhijia Grand Hotel opened is interpreted by many as an aggressive move to counter TQ's main competitor. When asked by reporters at the end of the opening why TQ decided to expand into Jugang so soon after the FCR Group, Tang Sulan responded jokingly as well.

"Well we couldn’t let the good people visiting Jugang to stay there, now could we? It might ruin their impression of this beautiful city!"

Overlooking the iconic Jugang harbour, the TQ Pennisula Resort at Jugang features a water park, infinity pool, fitness centre, a performing arts theatre, an art gallery and three gourmet restaurants. TQ Group has diverted massive corporate resources into the development of the TQ Pennisula Resort, spending nearly $244m at auctions to acquire "museum-worthy" pieces of art to be displayed in the common areas of the luxury resort. The Tang family has personally donated pieces from their private collection to the resort.

FCR Bringing Kyo Spirits to Indrala
20 May 4415

Image
Makgeolli, a Kyo rice wine, among FCR's planned liquor production

No doubt a piece of the growing rivalry between the FangCaiRyeo and TQ Groups, FCR has unveiled a project to bring popular Kyo liquor and spirits to Indrala in an initial stage of broader expansion within the beverage industry. Capitalizing on its Tukarese manufacturing via Sangon Drinks, FCR has been exploring opportunities for construction of production facilities within Indrala to reduce overall costs for its national operations. Now with a franchising agreement to distribute Rocc-Cola, FCR has shifted gears, cutting back on plans involving Sangon soft drinks and focusing solely on those Sangon products that do not compete with the Rocc-Cola franchise. However, still seeking to broaden its competitive edge and to offer something unique to the market, FCR has laid out its plans to start natively producing Kyo liquors, such as makgeolli, maesilju, and soju. The company also intends to establish its own brand offerings for beers and Indralan liquors but initial emphasis has centered on the foreign liquors that, while popular in districts with large Kyo populations, are only available by import and often not easily due to little to no economic exchange with Dankuk. The FCR Group admits there's definite risk in choosing to focus on niche spirits but they hope that they can build a popular interest in the foreign drinks and there is still much to come in the way of marketing and promotion via FCR's other subsidiaries.

Lü Jiyu Invites Tang Sulan to Mansion
"I hear that some executive folk have words about me. I feel sad for Sulan, so tamed and beaten by the mainstream. Maybe she should come visit, I invite her to the mansion! Surveyors have been on site at a location along the Kaizhou-Yincheng highway in preparation for the beginning of construction plans for a currently unknown project. Local representatives for New Dawn in Anle and Shu, a strong spot of party support in the previous election, conducted a two-day forum attended by regional industry leaders, farmers, and laborers to explore new opportunities for development and innovation for those located beyond Indrala's economic and technological urban centres. Particular focus was placed on sustainable farming and the discussion of topics on automation and the future of human labor.

Tianshun Emperor turns 100!
1 August 4415, 77th year of the Tianshun Era
Image

Image
The Son of Heaven at age 22, one year before ascending to the Dragon Throne

Our fair and noble Son of Heaven has lived past one-hundred years old. There is no doubt that his devotion to heaven, indicated through his chosen era name (OOC: Tianshun means "adherance to heaven.") and his sagacious nature has ensured our beloved Emperor a long and healthy life.

Our elders recall fondly how the relationship between the Tianshun Emperor and heaven resulted in the reverse of a drought in Dawei Village, Anle. Seeing this miracle unfold, our elders also recall the six-month march of nearly one million people who travelled across the country to bring the Tianshun Emperor to Tian'an, and beg him to ascend to the Dragon Throne. Acceding to the requests of the people, who are the eyes and ears of heaven, the then 23-year-old noble took to the throne to begin an era which saw a rebirth of Indralan cultural heritage and economic prosperity.

Today, most people understand the Tianshun Emperor as a ruler who is devoted to the essential and inalienable equality of all Indralans. This has been manifestly displayed during the Crown Prince's marriage crisis, in which the Tianshun Emperor bravely rejected the pleas of over 1000 traditionalist scholars employed by the Palace and allowed his son to marry the woman he loved: a commoner. Furthermore, during his reign the Emperor has built one Imperial University (Kyung-hee), and two Imperial Colleges (Dawei and Haejo) which are free past the point of admission, such that all Indralans, regardless of birth factors, are able to achieve a quality education.

Recently, Indrala came dangerously close to armed civil conflict. A peace-loving Emperor, the Son of Heaven issued an Imperial Decree ordered all sides of the conflict to drop their weapons and stand down. In deference to the booming voice of our Son of Heaven, nearly all paramilitaries stood down, and some fully disarmed, save for a few steadfast and eager republican militias. All Indralans are deeply grateful for the Emperor's leadership, for it is he, once again, who has saved this nation from descending into chaos.

On the same day as his 100th birth, the Emperor welcomed his third great-grandchild, Prince Yunzhe. Son of Prince Jianlong and Lady Meixing, the child was born with a full head of hair and a strong forehead which has lead many to believe that this birth is not coincidental; that heaven hath directly intervened once again. As it stands, Prince Yunzhe is third in-line to the throne, after the Crown Prince Yinju and Prince Jianlong.

In trying to comprehend just how very blessed we are to live under his guidance and spiritual leadership, Indralans in every corner of our country wail out:

"May the Emperor live and reign for ten thousand years, ten thousand years, ten thousand of ten thousand years!"

Bots Trash New Dawn Leader on Social Media
5 March 4417

Image

Originating on Yingweibo and later spreading through other social media platforms, bot user accounts have taken aim against Lü Jaewoo, the Party Leader of New Dawn and head of the Lü Clan, in the days leading up to the snap elections. Of particular emphasis in these shared posts has been the relationship of the New Dawn leader with Lü Jiyu, questioning the integrity of the party chief and accusing him of enabling a disrespectful campaign against Indralan culture and common decency. Some posts included a brief minute long video, juxtaposing Lü Jaewoo’s post-meeting comments at the Green Palace with a collage of footage showing Lü Jiyu’s parties and her incident at the palace front gate. Fueled by the fake accounts, the posts have spread rapidly but seem to have minimal effect on the party's public support. In fact, as votes continue to be counted, it appears that New Dawn may rise to become the second largest party, behind the National Front.

It is believed that New Dawn may file a formal complaint with the electoral commission requesting an investigation into the automated accounts to determine the responsibility for the anti-Lü campaign.

Other Headlines from the Region for March 4417:

Lü Yeongja Wins Kaizhou Mayoral Election
Another Lü rises in Indralan politics as the daughter of the New Dawn leader, wins the mayorship of Kaizhou. It was expected that Lü Yeongja's brother would make an entry into politics with the Kaizhou elections but instead New Dawn went against all the predictions, putting forward Yeongja to campaign to lead Indrala's northern metropolis.

Daughter of Jiyu Takes Helm of Zhijia Central Committee
After facing aggressive campaigning and personal attacks from three opponents, including the incumbent chairman, Ae-cha, daughter of the infamous Jiyu, ultimately came out on top in the vote to elect a new chairman for Zhijia City's Central Committee. Ae-cha promised to root out corruption among the Central Committee's "old guard" and laid out a vision to bring new opportunities for entrepreneurship, business ownership, and cultural development in Zhijia City, "beyond just the FCR gang and its buddies."

Li Jinyu claims victory in snap election
Despite winning just 8% of the vote, Lotus Party Li calls snap election "a victory for a pro-democratic Indrala"

Lotus Party candidate for Trade and Industry Phan Quang Đông (left) and Lotus Party Leader Li Jinyu (right) greet supporters on election day

TIAN'AN, Han Province: Despite gaining just three seats, Lotus Party Leader Li Jinyu has called the snap election "a victory for a pro-democratic Indrala."

"Tomorrow, we can roll up our sleeves and work to build the nation of our dreams," Li shouted to a cheering crowd at the TQ Star Hotel Ballroom in Kaizhou. "Tonight, however, we declare victory in the name of national unity!"

The informal "National Unity" coalition (New Dawn, Lotus Party, Social Democratic Party, Military Party, People's Action Party) has secured 65% of the popular vote over the governing republican coalition (Communist Party, National Front), which won just 35%.

Li said he called New Dawn's Lü Jaewoo on election night to congratulate him on his "massive victory" and offer his "sincere support" in forming a coalition cabinet. Li is expected to become Environment Minister in a cabinet led by New Dawn's Lü Jaewoo.

Li also openly suggested that the SDP, New Dawn and Lotus Parties create a formal parliamentary group.

"It's time for our parties to unite under a common banner so that we can embody the national unity we seek to create!" said Li to a lukewarm response. This idea did not seem overly popular with Lotus Party members.

TQ Group set to open "Marina City" in Jugang, Jiaozhi
The development is seen as TQ Group's answer to FCR's Zhijia City

View of Marina City under construction (September 4416)

JUGANG, Jiaozhi Province: TQ Group says that their newest development "Marina City" is on track and expected to open next month. The cluster of luxury skyscrapers have been built on reclaimed land along Jugang's iconic Central Beach. According to TQ Group, the development "enhances Jugang's glamorous image," and "radically redefines the skyline of the city."

Marina City is dotted with high-end stores often found only in Kaizhou or Tian'an, gourmet restaurants and coffee shops, rather than the seafood markets, sashimi stalls and Kyo street vendors that the port city is more commonly associated with. Similar to Kaizhou's "Zhijia City," TQ's development incorporates artificial intelligence and smart technology to create "a truly unique" district in the city.

Jugang has been an area of intense competition and investment between Jiaozhi's largest conglomerates (TQ Group and FCR Group). However, the capital inflow to this middle-class coastal city has been met with mixed response by the locals.

"It's making my head spin," said 70-year-old Zhang Meilin. "Too much change, too fast. My father used to dock his fishing boat there [Marina City] and now it's filled with luxury yachts. Soon this city will be completely unrecognizable, and that makes me sad."

Alternatively, some welcome the investment enthusiastically.

"It's about time, frankly," said 22-year-old undergraduate student Tan Yue. "Young people have had to leave Jugang for too long because we simply don't want to fish like our parents. The economy has changed, and now it seems like Jugang is finally catching up to the rest of the province."

JBC's "Create 108" attracts massive national and international viewership
The development is seen as TQ Group's answer to FCR's Zhijia City
Image

Contestants on JBC's "Create 108" pose for a picture at a press availability

EDITOR'S NOTE: The Kaizhou Inquirer's parent company, Kaizhou Inquirer Media Group, is the single largest shareholder in the Jiaozhi Broadcasting Corporation, controlling a 25% stake.

NATIONWIDE NEWS: The Jiaozhi Broadcasting Corporation's "Create 108" has gained massive national and international attention. The second episode of the series, aired last night, attracted 24% of the national viewership.

Create 108 is an ongoing survival reality television show on JBC. It is a large-scale project in which the public "creates" a global girl group by voting for members out of a pool of 108 trainees and independent singers from around the world, as well as voting for the group's concept, debut single, and group name. It is a collaboration between the JBC and the YingPop production agency YM Entertainment. The winning 9 contestants, as voted by Indralan viewers, will promote as a group for four years.

Unlike many other talent shows in Indrala, Create 108 is the only one in which contest entry is not restricted to Indralan citizens. Accordingly, many Gao-Showan trainees have travelled from Hulstria/Gao-Soto, Sekowo, Kazulia and from diasporic communities around the world to participate. As of the second episode, Crownlander national Kyoko Hitomi is leading all 108 trainees by number of votes, followed by Indralans Chen Bingbing and Park Bo-young.

Kyoko has been a fan favourite since promotions first began for the show in August. Renowned for her hard-working, friendly and kind image, thousands of Indralans and Crownlanders alike have been cheering her on. According to Create 108 producer Zhang Junshan, Kyoko's popularity is symbolic of the main goal of the show: "united in their love for music, teamwork, and performing, viewers watch as 108 ambitious young women, regardless of ethnicity or language, forge a different vision of what the world can look like."

Language has, however, been an interesting obstacle for the show. To get around it, JBC has provided each of the girls an ear-piece connected to a team of over 300 translators to provide live translation between contestants. For viewers at home, the show offers subtitles in Indralan and Luthorian, or through the official "Create 108" app, viewers can listen to a Kunikata, Dinh, Phra, or Kyo voiceover synced with the show.

For episode three, sub-groups of the 108 contestants will perform for soldiers at the Indralan Army Academy at Beizhou. Soldiers' votes will be combined with viewer votes, and the 20 lowest-ranking contestants will be eliminated.

Day Two of Protests Against Marina City
15 October 4417

Image

While well-received among big business, investors, and many of the younger generation, Marina City has found some strong critics among Jugang's working class and long-time residents. Protesters arrived at Marina City yesterday afternoon, demanding that the city cease any further development on the scale of TQ's urban project. There is great fear among these locals that they will lose the culture and community of their city.

One resident commented, “This is just too much, too fast. FCR built a hotel, TQ built a hotel, now we have this Marina City. This is a quiet city… or at least it was. We had our small downtown, which was nice. It was an enjoyable sample of big city life without Jugang being Kaizhou or Tian’an. What the Tangs have built here, I hate to say it, but I think it’s the nail in the coffin for old Jugang. We’re just going to become another city controlled by the rich and none of us are going to be able afford to live here any longer. We can build new places but this is just too much, we're not going to recognize our own home anymore.”

Marina City is also being criticized for its apparent lack of public involvement in the planning process to bring this monumental change to Jugang. Critics are accusing TQ Group and the city government working behind closed doors to develop Marina City and, even as construction began, the scale of the final project remained largely unknown to the public.

Today is now the second day of protesting against Marina City’s development and it has drawn significantly larger crowds following yesterday’s initial social media stir. In addition to the bigger crowd, the protests have drawn Zhijia Chairwoman Lü Ae-cha and her husband, Luk Kwong Yi. The Chairwoman of the very planning project that inspired TQ Group's own endeavor has joined in criticizing the over-development of "peaceful Jugang" and spoke out against the uneven creation of massive city projects in areas that are not even yet accustomed to the kind of density and traffic of Kaizhou. "Within our largest cities, we have seen success with ideas like Zhijia City and it is something that integrated well with Kaizhou's expansive infrastructure, including its metro system and roadways. It quickly found a home with millions of residents and brought new life to an lesser developed area of Kaizhou's own city limits. By contrast, what we are witnessing in Jugang is a direct assault on the daily lives of Jiaozhi's smaller communities, which have for so long been defined by close bonds and traditions. Something of the scale of Marina City is just not in line with Jugang's culture and it is even more insulting how the TQ Group disregards the livelihoods of all the people who will eventually be forced out of their life-long neighborhoods by the rich elites."

The Chairwoman's husband is familiar with these sentiments, as he himself was born in Jugang, back in an era when such a city rarely grabbed even the headlines of regional news. Luk appeared at the protest with his pet duck, Frederick, who quickly became his own celebrity, adored by the protesters and, in some respects, becoming a mascot of the anti-development argument in Jugang. With Frederick in his arms, Luk lamented the loss of Jugang as a city with a country feel. "The fisherman, the farmers... you would see them come into the city delivering their goods to the local vendors and markets. We had a small downtown, with some feel of the big city, but still small enough that we always saw familiar faces. And in many parts of the city, it was not uncommon to see chickens in the alleys and, certainly in all the green space and parks... so many birds, ducks, and even friendly deer you could feed! I don't want to see my hometown lose this and so many others feel this way."
