Doyle Removed From Parliament

In a 5-1-1 decision by the Parliamentary Ethics committee, New Liberal Party leader Rebecca Doyle has been found guilty of Breach of Parliamentary Procedure, Unethical use of Political Power, and Unlawful Censure of a Member of Parliament. The committee has also voted to remove her from her position in parliament and she has been prohibited from ever again holding a political office in Hutori.

Ms. Doyle's office was contacted for comment but, has declined to do so at this juncture though we have been assured that their will be a statement made in the coming days.

Sources also claim that the Ministry of Justice has been building a judicial case against Ms. Doyle including such charges as sedition, insurrection and treason. Though we can't confirm that with any degree of certain at this time.

Monarchists Celebrate as Doyle Recieves Lifetime Parliamentary Ban

Monarchists celebrated in the streets today as news broke that the Parliamentary Ethics Committee had voted in favour of removing Rebecca Doyle, the leader of the New Liberal Party, from parliament. Ms Doyle is banned from serving in parliament for life. Monarchists across Hutori see this as a huge victory in the fight to have Empress Mary III take the Hutorian Throne. Chancellor Brett Martin spoke to the crowd of monarchists that had gathered outside parliament shortly after the news broke.

"Today, the Parliamentary Ethics Committee showed that they will not tolerate anyone disrespecting their parliamentary collegues. Rebecca Doyle was a disgrace and an embarassment to this parliament. Regardless of your status in that house, whether you are a party leader, or a backbencher, no form of abuse to other MPs will be tolerated. Parliament is a place for 405 people to come together, representing the nearly 100,000,000 people of this nation, and create legislation that will better the lives of all Hutorians. It is not a place to bully others and disrespect the Hutorian Throne. We hope now that the New Liberals will elect a better leader, who will respect the throne, and put a stop to Rebecca's political games, allowing Empress Mary III to be coronated!"

With Doyle out, it is heavily rumoured that Russell Sewlyn or Dr Constance Okafor may re-enter politics and run for the party leadership, although spokespersons for both deny any legitimacy in these rumours. The likely frontrunner if the party goes back to its monarchist ways, is MP Peter Knox. Knox vocalized his displeasure with Ms Doyle which resulted in the verbal thrashing that ultimately had her removed from parliament. When asked who he believed would become the next NLP leader, Chancellor Martin had this to say:

"Well, thats a tough one. It really depends because if a majority of the party stays loyal to Rebecca's ideology of being USPH lapdogs, then someone similar to Rebecca would win. If a majority of the membership still believes in Selwyn-era New Liberalism, then someone like Peter Knox could easily win the leadership if he put his name forward. Obviously, the governing coalition would prefer the later option, as they would be an easier party to work with. Obviously we would love nothing more than to have Mr Selwyn step back into politics, but it would not be fair to the Hutorians living abroad who have been helped greatly by his services as ambassador."

Monarchists across Hutori know that this is only the first step in getting Empress Mary III coronated. The New Liberals are going to have to elect a monarchist leader if Empress Mary is to take the throne before the next election. The government coalition parties have been rumoured to be actively helping potential leadership candidates that are openly monarchist. None of the governing parties would comment on this matter.

New Leadership Team - National Reform Party

With the old leadership team of the National Reform Party standing down, a new team has emerged, one that could prove to reignite the fortunes of the NRP. A mixture of hardline conservatives and moderates within the party have mended their previous factional disagreements and united together to form a formidable force. The new leadership team as followed

CHAIRPERSON OF THE NATIONAL REFORM PARTY COMMITTEE

Reginald Underhill

PARLIAMENTARY LEADER OF THE NATIONAL REFORM PARTY
Tristan Adams - MP for Saint John South

PARLIAMENTARY DEPUTY LEADER OF THE NATIONAL REFORM PARTY
Kate Hardwick - MP for Cartertown

DEFENCE SPOKESPERSON
Zach Colbert - MP for Dalry North

FINANCE SPOKESPERSON
Jennifer Shelby - MP for Dalry Village

FOREIGN AFFAIRS SPOKESPERSON

Gloria Woodward - MP for Brantley

HEALTH & SOCIAL SERVICES SPOKESPERSON
Georgina Benn - MP for Union Springs

JUSTICE SPOKESPERSON

Mitchell Stevenson - MP for Midway

It is understood the party will no longer actively pursue a segregationist agenda. Many within the party were significantly unhappy with the extent at which Mr Parks and the previous leadership team put forward bills which stated Mashacara were inferior. While not condemning Mr Parks, Mr Adams has stated that those bills would not be acceptable to the NRP today. Mr Adams however did still state that the party would prefer segregation, however this was out of a belief of social cohesion (to the benefit of both races, recognised as equals) rather than one of superiority of one another.

Lowell's Message to Hutori

Postby TheCollectivist » Fri Jun 29, 2018 7:25 am

Norbert Lowell

Hutori is one year away from a national election and is presently in a midst of a constitutional crisis. Norbert Lowell, a Scientian economist and incumbent Ambassador of the Scientian Enclave, urges voters to make the right choice for the sake of the country. In a recent interview with the Bekenial, he made a direct statement to Hutorian voters:

Lowell wrote:Despite challenges, the present government with the help of our guidance has accomplished opening Hutori up to foreign investment. With a competitively zero corporate tax rate, Hutori is set to become a global economic powerhouse. This opening of the economy will benefit all Hutorians alike and for those displaced by free trade, we will propose a market-friendly solution for them too. Scientians offer not static methods, but a dynamic evidence-based approach that produces good results. Using pragmatic and sound fiscal policy we will rejuvenate the economy and create a healthy environment for job creation. With the power of genetic engineering, we will research and develop a new crop strain to help fight global hunger. The greatest and most powerful tool humanity has is science — and with it and it alone can we hope to improve our lives now and for future generations to come. This vision of technological and economic progress is a dream we can make a reality.

Unfortunately an obstacle remains in our way. There are those who would hold our country hostage in attempt to force our elected representatives to abide by their agenda. There are those who would threaten decades of peace between republicans and monarchists for the sake of their idealized view of governance. If at any moment these people wish to rejoin and assist us in achieving progress for all Hutorians, we would welcome them with open arms. I'm afraid they may not. So, as Hutorian voters, you have an important responsibility.

Come this election, make the right choice. Your vote could mean the difference between stagnation and unprecedented growth. With your support, the governing coalition will set our country back on track, for Scientians, for Hutorians, and for the betterment of mankind.

Presently the Scientian Enclave endorses the Federalist Party's candidate for presidency and has remained firm in its support of the present governing cabinet, which it holds two positions in.

Doyle Disappears, McShane takes on Leadership Role

Postby Sovak111 » Fri Jun 29, 2018 3:19 pm

Rebecca Doyle is nowhere to be found. Just days after being sanctioned by the Parliamentary Ethics Committee, the New Liberal Leader has declined to appear in Parliament. While banned from Parliament for life, many in the party still expected her to make a dramatic last stand. Deputy Party Leader and fellow Republican Robbie McShane has been performing the role of Leader in her stead. When asked about the whereabouts of the MP for Prosperity Cove, McShane declined to answer.

I decline to make any comment at this time. We will continue to follow the plan laid forth by our Dear Leader at least until the next election. Leadership of the party is not up for debate at this time.

Image
Robbie McShane is the Deputy Leader of the New Liberal Party in Parliament and a Doyle ally.

Doyle critic and New Liberal "Resistance" leader Peter Knox disagreed, saying:

Robbie is a smart guy. He knows good and well that we need to wipe the slate clean and select leadership. I know that party protocol doesn't normally allow it, but these are extraordinary times.

Knox is widely considered to be a potential future leader of his party - especially among the monarchist members of the New Liberal Party. Doyle's pointed criticism of the MP from Axminster South was widely cited as one of the reasons she was found guilty of ethics violations.

Given that the Crown Prosecutor is considering changes of sedition and treason against Ms. Doyle, it should come as no surprise that she has not appeared publicly in some time. Whether she is planning her next political move or has fled is unclear. Regardless of Doyle's whereabouts, the party does not seem to have plans to change their opinion on the status of Empress Mary III. Said Deputy Leader McShane:

We will continue to hold up the coronation until a deal can be made. We believe the people of Hutori are behind us and they will have the chance to have their say on this and other policies put forward by the New Liberal Party in the next general election.

Selwyn Rebukes Doyle and Resigns, Fueling Campaign Rumors

Postby Sovak111 » Fri Jun 29, 2018 3:43 pm

Former New Liberal Leader Russell Selwyn resigned from his position as Ambassador to the Confederation of St. Muron and Davostan today, fueling speculation that he plans to return to political life. Selwyn cited the current constitutional crisis, the need to spend time with his family, and a desire to re-evaluate his future in public service as the reasons for his resignation. Said Selwyn in his resignation letter:

It is with a heavy heart that I must resign from my position as Ambassador to the Confederation of St. Muron and Davostan. I believe my life-long relationship with the New Liberal Party hampers my ability to serve her majesty and her majesty's government as Ambassador. Foreign dignitaries need reassurances that I speak for the government and not my party. They currently do not have clarity on who I represent. As long as the New Liberal Party continues to hold up the coronation, the foreign service cannot do the hard work of representing Queen and Country abroad.

Now that I have resigned from office, I will have time to spend with my family. I will also re-evaluate my future in public life and with the New Liberal Party. I ask the government to immediately empower the Consul General to St. John to serve as Interim Ambassador in my stead. Hutori will be well served in her capable hands.

Selwyn leaves the Embassy for the last time as Ambassador

Many in the New Liberal Party believe Selwyn is one of the few party stalwarts who can bridge the divide between the Republican and Monarchist wings of the party. He is good friends with both Peter Knox, the MP for Axminster South who lead a revolt against Selwyn successor Rebecca Doyle when she refused to allow the coronation of Mary III, and Robbie McShane, the Deputy Party Leader currently in control of the party in Parliament. Some political insiders believe that he will run for President; others suggest he is considering running for his old Parliamentary seat in Sutton, currently held by Ultrackian Socialist MP Jason Sears, in a bid to regain his former position as parliamentary leader of the Party. Selwyn, however, is keeping tight-lipped about his future plans, saying to reporters as he left the Ambassdor's Residence in Kivonia:

Guys, I'm not focused on anything other than getting home for dinner. I've been so busy, I haven't had a home-cooked meal with my wife in ages. Please just let me be!

Royalists Set to Once Again Endorse Carmichael for Presidency

Royalist leader, and chancellor of Hutori, Brett Martin announced today that the Royalists would once again endorse George Carmichael in the upcoming presidential election. The Royalists have not run a candidate in their short history as they endorsed Constance Okafor throughout her tenure, before endorsing Carmichael in 4409. The governing coalition claims that Carmichael is still the rightful president, even though he lost to Ultrackius in 4413, because there is no sitting monarch to officially lead Ultrackius in the Oath of Office. Chancellor Martin attended Carmichael's first campaign rally, where he officially gave his endorsement.

"George Carmichael has all of the characteristics that I look for in a good president. He is charismatic, intelligent, a strong listener, and a creative thinker. George was elected as your president in 4409, and lived up to, and surpassed, every expectation we had in him. We know that the people did not re-elect him in 4413, but to those people I say, what has Ultrackius done in his illegitimate presidency that benefited you? All he has done is block the one person who could legitimize his presidency from taking the Hutorian throne. Is that the kind of leader that you want? Someone who will go against the wishes of the people to push his own political agenda. That is not the kind of leader George Carmichael is. He will listen to the people and work hard for you. George has my full support in his bid to retake the presidency!"

Selwyn Announces Run for Former Seat

Postby Sovak111 » Sat Jun 30, 2018 7:41 pm

The speculation can end. Russell Selwyn today announced his intention to win back his former Parliamentary seat. Said Selwyn:

It is time to take back our Party from the rebels who would use the good name of the New Liberal Party to take us back to times of despair. You have my word that if elected to be the honourable minister for Sutton East, I will work with all parties, from the Federalists to the Royalists to the Ultrackians, to make the great Isle of Sutton a better place. I will also look to return to government, so we need our friends and allies to turn out and vote!

Selwyn, the former New Liberal Leader, is rumored to have resigned his post as Ambassador to the Confederation of Davostan and St. Muron at the request of monarchist members of his party including former President Constance Okafor and long-time friend and Axminster South MP Peter Knox. According to party insiders, however, it wasn't until Royalist leader Brett Martin spoke kindly of Selwyn in a recent interview that he finally decided to take the plunge back into parliamentary service.

Image
Knox (R) and Selwyn (L) have a laugh with a constituent (C) on the campaign trail.

Said Philip Stevens, Professor of Constitutional Law at Lexington University:

I am assuming that after Martin said his piece, Selwyn figured he not only had the chance to `stop the bleeding' in the party, but also to get the New Liberals back into government. This is a many who once said `there is nothing wrong with wanting to win, you can't make people's lives better from the outside looking in.' Selwyn must think that there will be a chance to caucus with either the Royalists or Federalists in a new government, or else, why bother?

There was some speculation that Selwyn would run for President. However, after the endorsements of former/current President Carmichael by the Scientians and Royalists it seems that Selwyn could not win a Presidential election.

Said Stevens:
Look, Selwyn isn't an idiot. He's not going to run unless he has a chance to win. If he has no shot of winning the presidency, what's the point? No, now that he's running in Sutton, he's got a shot to remake or at least reform the party he started if he wins.

Selwyn Wins Re-Election as Federalists gain seats

Postby Sovak111 » Sun Jul 01, 2018 3:08 pm

Russell Selwyn is returning to Parliament. Bolstered by the Royalist decision not to field candidates in Sutton East, the former Ambassador and New Liberal Party Leader Selwyn easily defeated the Ultrackian Socialist incumbent to win back his seat. Said Selwyn:
I thank the people of Sutton for putting their faith in me and common sense governance! I will do all I can to reform Parliament and the New Liberal Party. We will work hard every day to make the lives of the People of Hutori better.

Current New Liberal Party Leader Rebecca Doyle, who was recently banned from Parliament, still was able to get her name on the ballot due to the work of pro-Socialist activists in Port Prosperity. However, she was beaten handedly by a member of the USPH. Doyle, who has not been seen in public after some media outlets reported that the Crown Prosecutorial Service will soon charge her with treason and acts of sedition, was unavailable for comment. Doyle's disappearance likely means that a leadership contest will likely happen. The three candidates widely considered for leadership of the party are Selwyn, current Deputy Party Leader and pro-Doyle MP Robbie McShane, and former Health Minister and Selwyn ally Peter Knox. Both Knox and McShane were on hand to celebrate Selwyn's victory and are said to be supporters of the idea of joining with other parties to form a governing coalition, though both would want to gain some concessions.

Image
Knox (L) and McShane (R) celebrate with Selwyn (C) as the election results are reported.

Said McShane:
"Despite the fact that Russ is returning, we still have enough votes to hold up the coronation if we have to. We want to see a raise in the corporate tax rate, seats in the cabinet, and promises of greater labour involvement in corporate governance before we give up what little power we have."

Knox, however, disagreed slightly with McShane's pronouncement:
Robbie said what? Oh goodness, no. We will do all we can to put Mary on the throne. I too would like to see corporations pay their fair share and better health and welfare outcomes for all, but I will not be voting to hold up the coronation to do that.

Selwyn, when asked about the situation had this to say:
"I have a good relationship with President Carmichael and Chancellor Martin. I also think that Robbie McShane has made inroads with the Ultrackians as well. Bottom line: I think we can keep them in check. There is a Grand Compromise to be had that will make everyone happy."

Selwyn, ever the negotiator, would not tell the Dispatch what his plans for a "grand compromise," but suggested he would soon take to the floor to propose such a compromise. Any compromise will likely have to be made with the Federalists, who gained seats in this election and won the Presidency. Federalist Carmichael's Presidency will technically be unbroken for three straight terms, as parliamentary maneuvering from the USPH and Doyle-led NLP prohibited Socialist leader Ultrackius from being sworn in as President. Ultrackius managed to carry out many of the duties of office, though was blockaded from entering the Presidential residence during the four-year term. Carmichael immediately began to campaign and earn the endorsements of the Royalist Party and Scientian Enclave, and soundly beat Ultrackius in the election.

Martin Set to Become First 3 Term Chancellor

Since the inception of the Commonwealth, no Hutorian Chancellor has served 3 terms. That is, until now. Chancellor Brett Martin is expected to stay in his role under the Grand Coalition, which means he will be serving a 3rd term. It was widely thought after Martin's Royalists lost seats that he would not have another chance to serve, but thanks to Russell Selwyn's Grand Compromise, Martin will get that opportunity

Image
Martin speaks to reporters after the grand compromise motion was presented by Russell Sewlyn.
"Well it is a great honor to be the first Chancellor to earn a third term. While my own party may not have done well, there was a large surge in votes for other parties who are in favour of keeping the monarchy. We also were able to ensure that the honorable Russell Selwyn was re-elected, and so far he has been a unifying force in the house. I'd be remiss if I didn't thank him for his Grand Compromise, which is allowing me to serve a third term as Chancellor of the nation I so dearly love, and will allow for Empress Mary to be crowned. So Russell, if you are watching, I send you my sincerest thanks, and congratulations on winning back your seat. The people of Sutton East are in great hands."

As mentioned before, the Royalist party lost seats overall, but it was especially bad for the Conservative wing, as they fell from more than 50 seats to just 25. Meanwhile the Progressive wing went from having 19 seats to 46, which means for the first time in the party's 31 year history, the Progressive Caucus will be larger than the Conservative Caucus. Some within the Conservative wing of the party are concerned that the Progressives may take over the party and insert a new leader, but Conservative Caucus Chairman Dylan Jourdain doesn't seem to be worried at all.

Image
Jourdain speaks on the rumours of a progressive wing revolt.
"Our party has stood united for more than 3 decades now. We are 1 party, and we have always been united behind our leader. I know Daniel and Natalie are firmly supportive of Brett as well, and would never force him out. Brett will step down at a time that he decides is right for him. As for right now, he is safe in his role and any rumour that he is not is just that, a rumour."

We reached out to both Daniel MacKenzie and Natalie Cook for comment, MacKenzie wasn't available, but Cook denied all rumours.

"Any rumour that we would even think about overthrowing Brett is just utter rubbish. We have no plan to contest his leadership."
