A copy of the draft Treaty on the Ananto Strait Conflict was leaked to the Republic yesterday. Granted, this is merely a draft, but the Kalistani negotiator, Ana Barajas confirmed its authenticity before the Republic went to press with it.

The features of the Treaty bind Kalistan to freely allow all peaceful civilian traffic through the Straits unhindered, and to remove all porting restrictions put in place at the start of the crisis, to including restoring neutral port status to Kalistani commercial ports.

In return, other nations agree to not enter the Strait with their warships, without either express permission from Kalistan, or a Treaty that allows freedom of movement within Kalistani National Territory. Other states will be bound to recognize the exclusive sovereignty of Kalistan out to 20 nautical miles from Ananto's shore.

The accord will end official hostilities between Kalistan and Lodamun, and the governments of Lourenne and Kazulia, and form the basis of a more solid relationship between the smaller nations.

Barajas said she is hopeful that other nations, especially Kazulia will get on board with the Treaty, but will be satisfied if the smaller nations sign it, so that Kalistan can begin mending its relationship with its immediate neighbors.

Defense Minister announces plans to revive Kalistan's Submarine Program

2 New dummy Sativa-Class Submarines are constructed at the Naval Shipyards. These ships will never enter service, but merely act as proof of concept

The Sativa-Class Submarine, (RL: Equivalent: Tench Class) designed and tested in Kalistan in 4022, was one of the backbones of the Kalistani Navy from year past. Now, the Defense Minister, Philando Santamaria, has announced plans to begin building new submarines.

"We have already constructed two prototypes in the Ship Yards, just to see if the blueprints could be updated. These dummy subs are not fit for sea service, but serve as proof of concept. A number of problems plagued the old Sativa Class subs. Their engine tended to be noisier than we needed them to be to effectively avoid detection while still outside of torpedo range. The sonar on the ships, while supporting both active and passive sonars, was not very good, and the amount of time the ship could stay submerged needed to be significantly longer.

"Our engineers have focused on improving these aspects of the sub, to allow us to operate against modern navies at need. We've expanded the Torpedo capacity from 10 to 14 torpedoes per boat. We've kept the same armaments on the ship, but improved both sonar and surface radar technology, and have included a new technology which detects electrical signatures in water. We've improved the engine to allow for 'silent' running at 1/4 speed, and added additional dampers to further reduce sound emission when submerged. Modifications to the ship have decreased the maximum effective range, however: The old max cruise range of the submarine was 18,000 miles. The new design puts max cruise range at just over 9,000. The Ship will need refuel and resupply after 40 days, rather than the 75 days it had before. But speed in the water is increased from 22 to 26 Knots per hour and submerged from 10 to 14 knots, making the submarine more nimble at sea."

The Defense Minister outlined new electronics improvements as well which will increase the range of the passive sonar, when working in conjunction with deep water sonar buoys.

The Defense minister has ordered 15 of these submarines, to be built at Kaliburg National Ship Yard. Expected construction time for the submarine fleet is 3 and a half years.

Below is a series of news reports from 3290-3315, detailing a long forgotten Kalistani intervention into a conflict in islands of Keymon. The main participant appears to be the Socialist Party of Kalistan. It appears that the Standing Regular force of the day had nothing to do with the intervention.

The cause of the intervention is unclear at this time, but it appears that socialist Partisans intended to assist the liberation of the people of Keymon from right-wing imperialism. The ending of the intervention is clear: Likatonia used nerve gas and killed hundreds of Socialist Partisans, causing a unilateral withdrawal from the conflict on the RSMOK's part.

These articles were discovered in the archives of the Socialist Party of Kalistan, in a journal called "The Revolutionary Socialist".

Socialist Party of Kalistan Issues Statement on the Keymon Crisis

Today, a spokesperson for the Socialist Party of Kalistan, a Party currently in government, issued the following brief statement on the Keymonese Crisis:

"The Socialist Party, in accord with Kalistan's Militia Law, hereby activates the Socialist Party of Kalistan's Party Militia, the RSMoK. We intend to activate our full initial call up for service in the Keymon Crisis. Our late arrival on the scene of this conflict is a demonstration of Kalistan's commitment to peace and self determination for all people, free of foreign domination. Additionally, we are opposed to the expansion of nationalism and we support the efforts of the people of Keymon to liberate themselves from rightist oppression. While it may seem cliche for us to use terms like this, we believe that all rightism is oppression, and therefore, support the overthrow of it in Keymon. Our forces have already begun to train, and will be engaged within six months.

"Our explicit mission in Keymon is to provide opportunities for regular and conventional militaries from other nations to rid the country of conquering forces. We will avoid frontal and conventional engagement on all counts. We will, however, not hesitate to use all weapons in Kalistan's arsonel, including small arms, propaganda, sabotage, and drugs. Given that Kalistan is the world leader in production and exporter of recreational and medicinal drugs, as well as the founding member and home base of the Organization of Drug Exporting Nations (ODEN), we have a number of very nice chemicals available to us which can be used to immobilize a fighting force for a few hours, decrease morale, and perhaps increase the rate of friendly fire. We therefore extend an invitation to the occupying army to leave Keymon immediately, so our Party's militia can come home soon, and the Keymon crisis can come to a resolution that reflects our principles as a Party: Neutrality, civil libertarianism, fair trade, self determination, peace, and anti-rightism. We sincerely hope you take us up on our offer, but if not, that is ok too: we assure you that brigades of hallucinating soldiers makes for great TV. We will happily broadcast our movies of your soldiers on Keymon AND Kalistani TV. While we bear no ill will toward Likatonia, its people, its military, and its government, we do stand on principle that Keymon is and should be independent of foreign rulers, as is Likatonia and as is Kalistan, and so we will lend a hand in the effort to ensure that outcome. Thank you and have a good day."

First Actions by Kalistani Partisans yield Results

Well Dressed Keymonese couple on the town or Socialist Militia plotting the cutting of a train trestle? Nobody will really know for sure.

Reports from the Keymon front today confirmed Socialist Party reports that RSMoK partisans are now active within Keymon. Smuggled in to the country in shipping containers belonging to foreign nationals, members of the 11th Artillery regiment (I) landed in March on the coast of Keymon and subsequently spread out through the country. The advance team, who has been taking Keymon dialect courses for months among their other training, arrived well ahead of schedule and set up safehouses in the major cities of Keysea and Eden's Hamlet. From there they dispersed into the population of Keymon, making significant contact with underground resistance forces.

Action finally came in early April when several rail lines and highways were severely damaged, but not completely destroyed by six well timed explosions at key points throughout the island. Luckily, there were no casualties in these blasts. This attack was coordinated with the cutting of a main data pipeline from the capital to Keysea. As technicians came to fix it, they were captured by Socialist irregulars and thoroughly interrogated before being released unharmed. The technicians, who claimed to be Keymonese nationals, but spoke with a pronounced foreign accent, also carried identification on them that betrayed their employer as the Likatonian Government. The data line remains down, as anyone who has come out to attempt its repair has come under fire.

The town of Eden's Hamlets was treated to the burning of three bales of marijuana in the town square, courtesy of the Socialist Party of Kalistan. An unidentified chemical additive was also added to the bales, to produce a mildly hallucinogenic effect that coupled with the effects of the weed to produce spirited euphoria and moderate disorientation in the populace of the surrounding houses and businesses. The local paper reported that the smoke could be detected for miles, and school was let out early by teachers who were unable to continue their lectures. The town's supply of convenience foods were for the most part depleted that evening. A Socialist Party spokesperson said

The Socialist Party of Kalistan takes credit for the burning of the marijuana in Keymon yesterday. We sent it over as a sign of solidarity with our fighting forces in country, and as a token of our friendship with the people of Keymon. Let it be known that what is reserved for Likatonian troops is at least as good, and we intend to let them know as well that we bear them no ill will either, but we would like them to go home, immediately.

The spokesperson added that nearly the entire compliment of RSMoK unconventional forces will have arrived in Keymon ahead of schedule, but confirms that not all units are currently in country. The spokesperson confirmed further that at least two regiments besides the 11th are already in theater, and some may be diverted to the Valruzian theater if the situation in Keymon permits.


Lyesdomide now produced by the Socialist Party of Kalistan

In other news, the Socialist Party has recently acquired the designs for the chemical "Lyesdomide", which is equivalent to the drug LSD, and yet, by some reports is 15 times more potent than the recreational version. Lyesdomide, known by its brandname "Kal-El" was previously produced by pharmaceutical company Kaldoz for commercial, recreation and medical use, and came in a variety of forms (including the oral and aerosol forms Kalistani young adults are familiar with.) Kaldoz pharmacists recently uncovered the process for making a water-stable variety of the drug, increasing the commercial potential for it. This breakthrough led several groups to bid for marketing rights, but given the Socialist Party's commitment for the advance of ODEN, and the fact that the board of Kaldoz is controlled by Socialists, the Party obtained the manufacturing process, for a limited period not to exceed ten years, at which point, it reverts to Kaldoz control. Large scale production of water-stable lyesdomide is expected to begin immediately.

Socialist Partisans level key Propaganda bureau of the Occupying Army

Hailing the arrival of the remaining Unconventional forces in the Socialist Party's initial call up, Socialist irregulars in Keymon blew up the building known as the "West Meria Friendship Center" early Friday Morning. The explosion was a spectacular blast which caused significant structural damage to surrounding buildings and obliterated the ten story structure. Said a Socialist Party Spokesperson to Kalistan News Network:

The building known as the West Meria Friendship Center was little more than a propaganda bureau meant to convince the people of Keymon that Likatonia and its allies are actually their friends and are doing the people of the island a favor by invading, occupying and conquering them. Because of the misinformation sent out from that singular building, Likatonia has been, to some degree successful, to date in the war for the hearts and minds of at least some Keymonites. As a result, the building represented a legitimate target in our effort to undermine the effectiveness of the Likatonian occupation.

The loss of the "Friendship Center" in the heart of the Keymonese Capital City represents a significant setback to the otherwise forward momentum of the recent Likatonian-Jakanian advance. With each of this sort of attack, unconventional forces demonstrate that they can strike anywhere at any time. This particular operation, which involved a reported half ton of high explosives, caused fourteen fatalities, ten of which were Likatonian government workers who were working in the center at the early hour. Four other casualties, who were discovered in the rubble of nearby buildings also damaged, could not be identified. The explosion was timed for a period of time when few people are in the area, as no residences are in that part of the capital city, and commuters don't begin arriving for at least an hour. The explosion, however, was seen from miles away, and its shockwave was felt at least ten miles from the site of the explosion.


Socialist unconventional forces continue to damage Keymonese infrastructure to hinder the movements of Likatonian Miltiary

In other news from the Keymon front, Socialist Partisans engaged an infantry column for the first time during the conflict 3 miles south of Eden's Hamlets. The column was on its way, probably to reinforce the drive forward in the north. Partisans reported that they had killed one Likatonian soldier in the vanguard, and injured another as the column moved to defend against the ambush. No Socialists were injured in the confrontation, which lasted no more than 60 seconds. In the center of the country, Socialists attacked a bridge that the Likatonian forces were to move across. The bridge was demolished directly before the arrival of the Likatonians, without anyone being injured, resulting in the Likatonians being forced to find another way around the river formerly crossed by the bridge. Socialist strategists say that over the summer this sort of demolition will step up, for two reasons: First, to hinder movement, reinforcement and resupply of forward positions by motorized transport, and second, to force Likatonia to divert at least a portion of its fighting force in its rear areas for the protection of key points of supply, communication, and transportation.

The Socialist Militia is ideally suited for this sort of warfare, as it allows them to engage the enemy and tie up a number of its forces without significant loss of life on either side. Our Party's efforts are aimed at providing other militaries active in the region an opportunity to turn back the onslaught which has, for some inexplicable reason, been relentless and not sufficiently answered, given the total number of allied forces in theater.

Socialist Partisans expand the minds of millions of Keymonese in July 1st "happening"

Socialist partisans emptied a fifty gallon drum of Water stable Kal-El, the Kaldoz pharmaceutical grade version of the drug LSD into the water supply of the major northern Keymon city of Eden's Hamlets on July 1st of this year, dosing potentially millions of residents of the city. Residents reported strange happenings about an hour after dawn, when most of the city wakes up and brushes their teeth. Throughout the day, people drank more and more of the water. A Socialist spokesperson explained the effect as an "additive which causes those who use the drug to want to drink water. If it is in the water to begin with, people will want to drink more, potentially redosing themselves." The Socialist Party also described the drug as "sticky": If it comes in contact with a surface, a residue remains on the surface, even if clean water is run over it. It will remain there until the chemical is completely dissolved or until it is neutralized. "Basically," the SP's spokesperson said,

"The people of Eden's Hamlets will be redosed for a while, unless the occupation army can figure out a way to neutralize the chemical. We would be happy to share that information with the Likatonians, but will only do that if they depart from the country. In the meanwhile, they will do themselves a favor by not letting their soldiers drink the local water."

Unfortunately, the warning came a bit too late for the Likatonian and Jakanian infantry divisions stationed in and near the town.

Dosage of the city of Eden's Hamlets was accompanied by a barrage of pro-socialist propaganda. The population of the city was split, between those who claimed that they felt the messages were righteous, and those who claimed it really "bummed them out."

In related news, Socialist chemists are in the initial development stages of a chemical called Herosol, which is an aerosol narcotic reportedly capable of causing a euphoric drowsy state in a target area. Human testing will begin as soon as the chemical passes the final stages of component assembly, and deployment will soon follow.

Long Serving Party Leader Allen discusses Keymon in Late September

Long time head of the Socialist Party Mica J. Allen spoke today on the Keymon Conflict from the capital city in Ananto, Kalistan. Below is an excerpt from her remarks:

We knew this day would come. The Likatonians have decided to begin using random and indiscriminate violence against the country that they have occupied. Ripped off is the mask of tolerance and virtue. The Occupying forces have demonstrated, for once and for all that their cause is not justice, nor is it peace, nor is it any other thing one may put a positive connotation on. Instead, it is sheer, boldfaced, and unadulterated violence. Killing innocent civilians in internment camps for the acts of an entirely unrelated, and for that matter, unsolicited set of incidents is unconscionable, and yet that is precisely what the Likatonians are doing on the imprisoned Island of Keymon. We now see the monster and our justification for continuing our own fight in that territory: it is the cause of ending of human suffering and indignity at the hands of raw malice. We call on ALL civilized nations in the world to join us, for the cause of Keymon is the cause of all free people of Terra.

Allen's comments were short and set against the back drop of a call for modernization of the Kalistani military.

In news from the front, Socialist Partisans, recently forced out of cities by the Likatonian internment policies, struck three separate guard posts in the countryside north of Keysea. One of the targets was simply a watch tower, which Socialist irregulars set ablaze. Two Likatonian soldiers on duty were wounded in the encounter. The second attack was directed toward another tower set up to observe the key north south road between Keysea and Royal Hillsborough. This road has been struck a number of times, but this time, the command post itself was targeted. No soldiers were injured, however, power was cut for about four hours and three off road vehicles were permanently disabled by the use of sugar in the gas tank.

In the third incident, Socialist partisans waged a pitched battle against a rural Likatonian firebase thirty miles north of Keysea. The battle began at 2:30 AM. A flash bomb was detonated at the far end of the base, and simultaneously, Socialist irregulars attacked the front gate. Two Likatonians were killed in the initial encounter according to Militia reports, while the Socialists lost one partisan killed and two wounded. When the flash bomb was deemed to be a diversion, Likatonians were sent to the front gate to repel any additional force, and meanwhile, a second team of partisans cut their way through the fence and raided the armory. An alarm sounded at the armory as Partisans were emptying the building of small arms and ammunition. One Socialist was wounded in the resulting firefight, and one was killed. In total, the Socialists lost two partisans in the attack and three wounded. Meanwhile, the irregulars escaped into the countryside with approximately seventy five rifles, two thousand rounds of ammunition, a couple dozen grenades and a fully automatic fifty caliber machine gun. The weapons were loaded onto a truck 300 yards outside the perimeter of the compound. The truck took light damage as Likatonians pursued on foot. The truck was later unloaded and abandoned, the weapons divided, the dead buried, and the wounded looked to. In total, the attack was carried out by a mere fifteen partisans of the Fighting Third, which is the name adopted by the infantry regiment who has claimed no less than four electricity transmission tower sabotages. The assault lasted for about fifteen minutes.

Finally, the Socialist Party of Kalistan has set up Radio Free Keymon in the Capital City today. Radio Free Keymon broadcasts Kalistani music, news, and Party propaganda to the citizens of Keymon. In the broadcasts, Kalistani announcers explain the purpose of RSMoK's actions in Keymon, describe the character of government under Likatonians, and describe the atrocities already committed by Likatonian forces in Keymon. They also call on the citizens to do what they can, within limits, to disrupt the routine of internment camps, to attempt escape, and to prevent the action of compradores in their midst who will happily help the oppressor out by selling out his countrymen and women in exchange for some personal favors or some little modicum of protection. RFK is broadcast on 60.00 mhz shortwave, as well as on the internet. Socialist Partisans have set up several repeating stations throughout the country using very simple power supplies provided by the batteries of automobiles of people who have been sent to internment camps, 200 m of wire, and the sides of buildings as towers. One such repeater was found on a watch post belonging to Likaton rural forces and was taken down. However, that repeater, it turns out, was non-operational at the time and the active repeater for the area, discovered several minutes later, was tacked to a tree twenty feet away.

Keymonese hold Dance Party in Internment camp near Eden's Hamlets

Incited by Socialist Propaganda passed among the population in the largest internment camp south of Eden's Hamlets in Keymon, several Keymonese coordinated a Dance Party. More than seventeen hundred participated. A boombox, probably smuggled into the camp by Socialist partisans who are organizing there (undercover socialists were indiscriminately thrown into the camps along with the Keymonese people living in the area around them) blasted out hard rock and hiphop while the mob congregated in the main exercise area of the camp. Guards dispatched to break up the activity were hampered as they tried to make their way to the stereo by people dancing, laughing and generally having a good time. Eventually, the music came to an end, as the boombox was smashed and the crowd was dispersed. No injuries were reported in the scuffle, though two Keymonese youths were taken into custody.

Said one Keymon internee:

You know, man. The Commies are right! I don't mean their ideology or anything, but we should just have a good time. We shouldn't treat this place like a prison, more like a summer camp, where you can meet some cool people who happen to be in the same boat as I am. Everyone here is in the same boat as I am, so it really gets rid of all the old stuff that we had in our society. We're all brothers and sisters now. For the first time, I really feel like I have something in common with the people around me. And you know, for me personally, I had it pretty bad before. I was homeless, I was out on the street, you know... I never had any food, I couldn't get a real job. Here they feed me, give me a place to stay and give me something productive to do with my time, you know? I am learning a trade in here. I am learning how to farm and fix stuff, and everything. And I feel safe, most of all. I never felt that way living on the streets. If they ever let us out, I might not want to go, you know what I'm saying? Cause I have it better in here than I ever did out there. Hey! I just had a thought. This is like what communism, or socialism, or whatever would look like, where the government gives you enough to eat and a place to live and a job and free medicine! Who knew that the Likatonians were Commies too, right? If we could only get some music now..."

The impromptu dance party lasted for about 12 minutes before it was dispersed.

LIkatonian VX Clouds produce disastrous results for Socialist Militia

In response to the mass murder of Socialist Militia forces in Keymon by the warcriminals in Likatonia, Kalistan has officially suspended all diplomatic and economic relations with Likatonia and her allies, and will move to cancel all treaties that may exist between the two nations.

On this solemn occasion, Mica Allen, Leader of the Socialist Party of Kalistan issued the following statement:

The Likatonian VX gas initiative has, for all intents and purposes, effectively ended Socialist involvement in the Keymon Conflict. We have heard reports of entire socialist regiments being wiped out in a matter of minutes as Likatonian planes saturated the countryside with VX. Kalistan, having outlawed chemical weaponry centuries ago, never sent VX reagent to the front, and as a result, it produced devastating results. Most units have failed to make any contact with us in the last few weeks, and we can only presume that they are all dead. All socialists who remain alive have been ordered to make their way toward friendly controlled beach heads for evacuation from the island, but to date, only 1500 of our initial 7500 partisans have cleared the so-called "free fire" area. Most of those units were located in and around Eden's Hamlets in the north of the island. This criminal, no, this sociopathic act, which violates every international law outlawing the use of chemical weaponry, must be answered for by the Likatonian Government, but for now, our combat missions have ended. We will stand by on the side of freedom loving people around the world, but the loss of six thousand of our brave and skilled partisans, 80 percent of the brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, sons and daughters that volunteered to go and fight for the liberation of that imprisoned and subjugated island in just a short time is too much for our Party to bear. Most especially since the apparently limitless force of Likatonia is irresistible anywhere they and their allies choose to engage. But we swear here and now, we will NEVER allow the mistake of intervention of this sort to be repeated.

Of the 1500 mentioned by Allen in her speech, most still remain in the safe zones controlled by Trigunian units due to lack of transport as a result of the military blockade of the island. They will remain there until either they are over run by the dread forces of the Fascists, or they are transported off the island, but there is little chance that they will be taken alive if the fascists from Likatonia ever decide to make a final push into the zone. While they live, they fight, and while they fight, they fight Likatonia.

The Socialist Party unilaterally declared a day of mourning in Kalistan, and the entire nation responded with 100 minutes of silence. Allen announced her resignation as Party Leader the next day. It was reported, though not confirmed, that her daughter had volunteered for service in Keymon, and was likely among the dead.
