Carmichael Names Woodbury HSIS Director

On the heels of yet another presidential victory President Carmichael named retired Admiral Lucas Woodbury the new director of the Hutorian Security and Intelligence Service. Woodbury has a long history of Special Operations ranging from Hutori's elite Special Tactics & Reconnaissance (SPECTRE) to being in command of Hutori's Special Operation Command. His pedigree in the covert should afford Woodbury the experience necessary to effectively lead Hutori's intelligence agency.

Director Woodbury to Appear in Front of Parliamentary Oversight Committee

Newly appointed HSIS Director Lucas Woodbury is slated to appear before the Parliamentary Intelligence Oversight Committee later this week, to justify a request for an increase in funding for Hutori's spy agency. Current funding for HSIS is classified, however Parliamentary estimates by the Auditor General have judged that the intelligence agency consumes anywhere from 10 to 15 percent of the Foreign Affairs budget every year, which places current funding levels anywhere between 2.2 and 2.7 Billion HLR.

The request for increased funding comes as Director Woodbury has shaken up most of HSIS's internal organization with an ambitious plan to massively expand HSIS's operating capabilities while scaling back the called "bureaucratic" tail which resides in the Sarah Steuart Intelligence Centre in Mission county, just outside of Bekenial.

Director Woodbury is the most public Director in decades, with most changing of the guards happening behind the scenes and rarely being acknowledged by the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The very public announcement by President Carmichael has been seen by many intelligence and security analysts as a move to reinforce Hutori's renewed drive to rebuild their once formidable reputation one of Terra's finest intelligence gathering nations.

Vanuku: Responsible for Biological Attack?
Exposé by Jennifer Warfield

Image

Recently I was able to sit down and have an interview with someone who claims to have detailed knowledge of Hutorian classified documents. My source wishes to remain anonymous however, after extensive research all sources seem to indicate that the person in question is an incredibly reliable source.

Jennifer Warfield: If you don’t mind me asking, who do you work for?

Person X: I would rather not say.

JW: Fair enough. So, you claim to have knowledge of classified material. Revealing said material could put your job at risk, why do it?

PX: I think the people deserve to know, it’s not fair that this attack was perpetrated against them, yet they know little to nothing about it.

JW: What attack are you talking about? There hasn’t been a foreign attack on Hutorian soil for a long time.

PX: Well approximately four hundred years ago a biological attack was carried out against the Hutorian people in Roccato. Thousands were in infected and hundreds ended up dead.

JW: It sounds just like an outbreak of any other disease. Why do you think it was an attack?

PX: You don’t apprehend suspects in a simple outbreak. Not only were suspects arrested but, someone was eventually shot and killed in a raid regarding this contagion.

JW: Who supposedly conducted this investigation?

PX: Is was a HSEC/HFPS joint investigation.

JW: Okay…who supposedly was the person responsible?

PX: We don’t know the exact name of the operative but, he went by the alias “Michael Steele”

JW: Alias? Was he working with another country or organization?

PX: All evidence seems to indicate that he was working under the direction of the Vanukuean government.

JW: What was the biological agent?

PX: It was a weaponized influenza virus that was introduced to the population through Kincardine’s water treatment plant.

JW: Do you mind if I take these documents to validate these claims?

PX: Not at all you’ll see that this is quite authentic. I just want to make this tragedy and it’s perpetrators known to the people.

After the interview I took the documents to be authenticated and every single expert I took them to validated the authenticity of the documents. They ranged from former HSEC agents to former HSIS agents, top security advisers and many others. They said the same thing that not only were the documents real but, that the attack actually occurred. I even reached out to the current administration though they declined to comment. It seem that not only has Vanuku dropped atomic bombs but they also weaponized viruses as well.

HIHL Planning International Tournament

HIHL comissioner Lary Bateman announced today that the league was planning a new international tournament that would see Terra's best Ice Hockey players compete to see which nation is the best.

"It is with great excitement that I announce today the start of a new international ice hockey tournament called the Hutorian International Ice Hockey Invitational. The HIIHI will showcase not only the best talent from our league, but from nations across Terra.
The HIHL will be the main sponsor and organizer of the tournament, with Carmichael Inc. as a secondary sponsor. Our goal is to have 16 nations enter the tournament. Hutori being the host will be automatically entered, the next 15 teams to register will be included. If enough nations are interested, we would consider a larger tournament. This is an exciting opportunity to watch the world's best hockey players face off against one another."

The current plan if the tournament goes ahead with a 16 team format is as follows:

Group Stage:
4 groups if 4 teams each. Teams play each team in their group once. The top 2 teams in each group advance to the knockout rounds.

Knockouts:
All knockout rounds are single game elimination.

Quarter Finals:
All 4 group winners draw a random 2nd place finisher. Group winners cannot play the 2nd place team from their group.

Semi-Finals:
SF 1: Winner of QF 1 v Winner of QF 3
SF 2: Winner of QF 2 v Winner of QF 4

3rd Place Game:
Loser of SF 1 v Loser of SF 2

Finals:
Winner of SF 1 v Winner of SF 2

Selwyn Announces Presidential Run

Postby Sovak111 » Thu Jul 19, 2018 12:27 am

Today former Ambassador and current New Liberal Party Leader Russell Selwyn announced that he would not run for re-election in Sutton East and instead run for President. He also announced this will be his last election campaign regardless of the outcome. Below is an excerpt of his announcement speech:

I have given most of my life to serving the proud people of Hutori. I have been a parliamentarian, an Ambassador, a government minister, a mayor, and a community activist. I have had a long career and am proud of the work we have done as a nation. We reformed the tax code to make it more fair for working people. We established strong ties with friendly nations while sternly opposing those that would seek to upend global peace and security. We fought hard for the Mashacara people and all those who have experienced discrimination in our time. We have opened Hutori for business at home and abroad. We have invested in education, and healthcare. We have survived the dark days when dictatorial leaders sought to hold hostage our constitution and our empress. We came through to the other side stronger with a grand unity government. And now, I ask you, the people of Hutori, to let me have one last ride. Give me the chance to build upon our hard work one last time.

If I am so blessed as to receive your votes for the Presidency, I promise the following:
- Promise 1: I will seek peace in Terra while never backing down from our enemies. If elected, I will seek new treaties that strengthen our standing in the world and preserve our values
- Promise 2: I will invest our nation's resources wisely; where government provides the best solutions to policy problems, we will make sure our agencies have the resources they need.
- Promise 3: I will recognize that the answer to every policy problem is not "more government"; where the private sector is best equipped to solve policy problems, we will invest in our non-profit organizations and businesses.
- Promise 4: I will work with any party that is willing to work with the New Liberals. No party has a monopoly on good ideas. If elected, I will never turn away a good idea - regardless of the party proposing it.
- Promise 5: I will not run for re-election. If not elected, this shall be my retirement from electoral politics.

To all who want a fair, free, and open society in this great nation: I would like your vote. Please consider voting New Liberal on Election Day.

Hutori is a great nation, but we cannot rest on our laurels. No... we must push ever forward, with indefatigable resolve, to make this nation and Terra better each and every day. Thank you for your support! God bless you. God bless the Empress. God bless the people of Hutori!

After serving as the youngest ever Lord Mayor of the Isle of Sutton, Selwyn was first elected as a by-election candidate in 4382. He has thrice served as the leader of the New Liberals, resigning the second time to serve as Ambassador to Davostan. After the Doyle Affair resulted in Parliamentary deadlock and a Constitutional Crisis, Selwyn resigned his post to return to Parliament. Bolstered by the support of the Royalist and Federalist Parties, Selwyn was re-elected to his old seat. Considered a shrewd negotiator, he is credited with creating the "Grand Compromise" which put an end to the Doyle Affair and resulted in a unity government in which all parties became members of the cabinet. When the courts temporarily dissolved the New Liberal Party after Doyle's capture and prosecution, Selwyn caucused with the Conservative wing of the Royalist party until the New Liberals were reinstated.

Selwyn graduated with honors in Economics from Williams University where he was taught by future president and party colleague Dr. Constance Okafor. He and his wife of 46 years, Nancy, still call Sutton home. They have two children. Selwyn is 68 years old.

Conservatives to Support New Coalition

Image
Jourdain speaks to the media after announcing his caucus would support the new coalition

The Conservative Caucus of the Royalist Party announced in parliament today that they would support the cabinet proposal put forward by the New Liberal Party. This came as a shock to many as the Conservatives have refused to work with the Ultrackian Socialist Party, who are included in the proposal, for decades. The Conservatives would hold no ministerial positions under the current proposal, but caucus chairman Dylan Jourdain would take on the role of Government House Leader. It is rumoured that Jourdain initially would not support the proposal, reports say he even said "if hell froze over I still would not work with the USPH" during talks with the New Liberals. Ultimately, Jourdain was likely won over by the offer of the Government House Leader role, and the assurance that even though the USPH would have the finance portfolio, any budget put forward by them would have to be approved by incoming Chancellor Natalie Cook, the leader of the Royalists. It was reported though, that the Conservatives still refused to take an official cabinet position in protest of the USPH being included.

During the media scrum, Jourdain had this to say:

"The Conservative Caucus remains loyal to the Royalist cause. While none of our caucus members will be ministers in the new government, we are still members of the Royalist Party and therefore are a government party. As I said in the house, I am honoured to be offered the role of Government House Leader."
