Political instability combined with internal disputes between various ethnic groups have created the impetus for internal instability within the Republic of New Alduria since its independence from the Luthorian Empire. In the Political spectrum, on one end of the river is the Labour Movement known as Drapeaux Rouges (Red Flags), which champions the cause of workers rights and the establishment of worker's state in the Republic of New Alduria lead by Clarence Lawrence. On the other end of the river is the Conservative and extremely anti-Labour Movement known as Chapeaux Bleus (Blue Hats). A look into the Labour history of the country would reveal the cause for the Chief Minister's introduction of Labour Rights into the country.
In 4178 labour agitations triggered disturbances and riots mainly the nation's sugar industry, which soon spread to different industrial sectors such as woodwork and fisheries. Rioting throughout the nation was succeeded by strike is specific sugar estates throughout the nation. Soon, years after these strikes spread to the coal mining industry and soon to the fishing industry, with fishers releasing their nets in response to the government's unwillingness to compromise on the matter of worker's compensation. Clarence Lawrence lead the labour movement through negotiations with the Central Government in a pre-civil unrest negotiations. These negotiations rendered futile as the requirements of the labour movement were immediately derailed by the Conservative populous ruling in the Legislative Council.
As a result of this, civil unrest erupted throughout the state, with moments of armed fighting between members of the Labour Movement's militia, Poing Noir (Black Fist) and the National Defence Forces. Posterior to the dispatching of a government liaison from the Luthorian Government, it was announced by said liaison that the government would aid the state with a £700,000 payout for colonial research. However, unknown to the Luthorian Liaison this payout was used by the Conservative lead government to fund the creation of its parliamentary scheme to hammer the last nail into the coffin against the Labour Movement. The Conservative Government intended on abolishing the right to strike entirely, reforming the constitution without the input of the Labour opposition. These plans were immediately derailed after the Poing Noir, under the command of Brigadier-General Clément Fremaux, stormed the Legislative Council taking the Chief Minister and his cabinet hostage.
A three month stand-off between the National Defence Force and the Poing Noir ensued. Unexpectedly, members of the National Defence Force launched a young officers coup in the country's capital, siding with the Poing Noir. On November 8th, 4200, then Chief Minister of New Alduria, Jean-François Moerman dissolved the parliament and his cabinet in-front of national television under the commands of the Poing Noir militants. Immediately, the Labour Opposition swooped into power to both restore order into the State and Introduce a pure workers' republic. Entering into the political spectrum was Matthias Desramaut, a former press secretary for the previous Chief Minister and secret member of the Drapeaux Rouges. Upon being appointed Chief Minister of the Republic of New Alduria, Desramaut introduced a series of Labour friendly legislation into the Legislative Council and began making steps to forming a purely democratic political system.
In the present, Chief Minister Desramaut has introduced legislation such as sympathy strike, strikes without ballots, democratic worker's council and anti-strike regulation. These legislation have virtually crippled the conservative power house from its core. Although, he is pro-labour and anti-Conservative, Chief Minister Desramaut is calling upon the nation to join in the cause of Pan-Aldurianism and abandon the causes of ethnic marginalization throughout the state, as he recognizes the elitist Luthorian and Canrillaise minority, saying: "If this nation is to prosper as we desire, it must become a state where every creed and race must find a place of equality and comfort. Our current system does not mirror these plans, however, i do not intend on allowing this marginalization to continue."
