First Nationalist President elected in 100 Years!
The first PND President Juliana Vespa-Baldassare and party celebrate in old fashion
Image

Without even the need of a second round, The now former Minister of Interior Juliana Vespa-Baldassare is the first PND President of the Istalian Republic and the first Nationalist to be elected into office in 100 years! Despite the fall of their Liberal-Democratic allies, causing the loss of a majority in parliament and paving way probably for another left wing cabinet, the PND itslef has gained seats resulting altogether in a massive party at the traditional pub near party HQ in Palerno - the historic home of the party. In that same pub, the founders of the PND Vespa-Baldassare and Rosso have established the foundations of the party and way before that, the forefathers of the PND - the AI founder Beniamino Massa has celebrated in that pub the AI‘s first election victory and all other election results too.

The only one not celebrating is Giannino de Felice who is currently busy in the World Congress discussing resolution 67 which he calls „unacceptable“. Nonetheless, PND Whip Cecilio Barzetti who is present at the celebrations has stated that „we will drink enough for him too!“

The celebrations cannot last too long though, as a probably left wing government will be formed, which would be inconvenient for Vespa-Baldassare, and the country is still in recession, which the now-President promised to fix.

ARMANI: WE MUST SECURE SUPPORT BEFORE HELL BREAKS LOOSE
THE ULD PRESIDENT ANNOUNCED THAT HIS PARTY WILL SEARCH FOR EXTERNAL SUPPORT FOR THE CURRENTLY EXISTING COALITION OR TRY TO FORM A GRAND COALITION

Image
Armani is looking for options that will prevent the likely left-wing government from forming

Due to the decrease of support of the ULD in the latest elections, possibly due to the supposed inactivity of the government (OOC: sorry guys I thought that there would be enough time to pass those Ddls), it appears as if the leftist domination in Istalia may very well continue. The likes of Armani, the ULD's president, or Roberto Volta, the Prime Minister who already announced that he won't apply for the position once more, even if support for the current coalition would be found, signalled their distaste with the results multiple times.

Image
Marco Pelosi, former secretary, is slowly becoming the party's main radical figure

They won once again. With cheap, well, expensive populism. Disgusting.

Commented Marco Pelosi, former candidate for the seat of Minister of Finance (the ULD decided to change their ministry to Defence, with foreign specialist George Johnson becoming the minister). Pelosi, in fact, has gathered a lot of backing recently, with al-Iskenderid, the deputy chairperson, voicing his support for the banker before the party's primaries, which yet again didn't happen, due to the party preferring to stay silent as to their candidate, due to that possibly causing issues with their allies. It may seem as if Pelosi may take Volta's place; that is, if the ULD would retain their position to nominate the Prime Minister. However, due to the party's president's recent activity, it looks like Armani may consider himself as a viable candidate for that post instead, and, with his somewhat more mild attitude, he could very well pose as a more uniting icon for the possible coalition than the hardcore capitalist that is Pelosi.

Juliana Vespa-Baldassare to run for President again
Referendum on Majatran Union Membership in near future?

The first PND President had a quiet term, since there was a political stalemate without a majority government. Consequently, Ms Vespa-Baldassare‘s term was solely dedicated to economic recovery of Istalia and slowly but steadily Istalia is returning to its former self. However, this recovery is mostly attributed to the market rather than the actions of any specific politician. Ms Vespa-Baldassare only real decision in the last term was to take in around 5000 Zardic refugees fleeing from their „communist hell“. However, even that was done only half way since communication with Cobura has suddenly stopped. Consequently, the refugees were taken in by already existing Istalian asylum laws (which we cannot forget the PND in fact opposes) without any specific government program - as there is no majority government. Hence, this „achievement“ could not be attributed to Vespa-Baldassare fully either. Her popularity is still high, specifically in Mezzodiurno where probably her background as a teacher resonates with the middle class urban population. However, it is nowhere near as high as 4 years ago, where she won the presidential election in the first round! Nonetheless, this time she has a plan to „reverse the crisis once and for all“ as she plans to emulate the Istalexit referendum once proposed by PNI president Gomez a long time ago. President Juliana Vespa-Baldassare, in case of election victory, intends to task whatever government will be formed to organize a referendum on Istalia‘s membership in the Majatran Union as she believes that the economic crisis and slow recovery can be mostly attributed to membership in that organization where Istalia „dances under Cildania‘s flute“. The markets were hesitant to respond to this statement with only a minor setback as this once again may destabilize the nation. However, the chances for the leave campaign to be victorious is slimmer than in Gomez‘s days, claim most analysts, since Istalia has always been an internationalist nation and people do not want another immense change in the status quo.

In other news, the alliance between the PdA and PND is reaching its final stage, with the name „Prima Istalia“ being thrown around alot. Nonetheless, in the upcoming elections the two parties will still not represent one bloc.

POLL: MOST ULD SUPPORTERS SEE PELOSI AS THE FACTUAL LEADER OF THE PARTY
THE ULD DEPUTY CHAIRPERSON IS SEEN AS THE MOST POWERFUL FIGURE IN THE PARTY AT THE MOMENT

Image
The Deputy Chairperson is a former presidential candidate of the party

In a recent poll conducted by our newspapers, we questioned supporters of the ULD as to whom they think the factual leader of their party is; after all, the new system advocates for parties outside of the leadership of the party having more power. It does appear as if they believe that that is the case this time, to some extent. In fact, the supposed head of the party, the President, Gianmario Santell, comes second in a poll among the supporters of the party with 27%. In fact, the supporters off the ULD believe that the Deputy Chairperson of the party, or the leader in the parliament, is the factual head of the Liberal Democrats, with 31%. Minister of Health and Social Services, Bruno Bacco-Messina, closes up the podium with 17%, or 10 less than Santell. Pelosi, a former Secretary and Presidential Candidate, was supposed to become the Finance Minister in the PND-led cabinet, however, Santell, his political opponent within the party, was able to put Omar Khan forward as the actual candidate and eventual future minister. He was able to convince the new secretaries of the party to support him in becoming the Deputy Chairperson, however, as he said that he'd support the candidate that they both backed in the party's secretary elections in Mezzodiurno (the regions have a structure with Secretaries, too).

Image
Santell comes second among ULD supporters, however in the poll conducted among people from outside the party's electoral base, Santell wins with over 50%

The results are most likely the way they are due to the fact that most of the voters don't see a clear leader in the party; although Armani was seen as a clear leading figure, he never really nominated a successor, and as such, many of those that supported his rule are confused. It does, nonetheless, appear as if the two biggest players are clearly Pelosi and Santell.

First signs of recovery after the crisis: but the MUN is seen as the main cause!
The major parties of the nation, notably PND and AR, push for a referendum on the permanence of Istalia in the Union of Majatran Nations

ROMULA - After years of economic depression and serious financial crisis, finally, the first signs of recovery are emerging in a country that is shaken and economically resized. However, President Yassen declared that by now this difficult and long years is now behind and that Istalia, thanks to the dynamism and intelligence that has always distinguished it, will soon return to its former glory.

Obviously the country remains one of the most advanced nations in the world and the most advanced in Majatra, but it is undeniable that it has lost its centrality on the continent challenged by new emerging regional powers, notoriously among these Cildania.
Aghar Yassen, however, has always supported the development of strong cooperative ties with Cildania and reconfirmed that by working together at the continental level, Majatra will be able to recover from the crisis that has spread like wildfire from Romula and then recover from the continental crisis following the Jelbanian Civil War which saw the rift within the large Majatran Alliance.

But Aghar Yassen seems to have to face the major challenges within the Istalian borders: the popular protests, in fact, after these long years of suffering, are affecting all the major cities of the country and the most widespread slogan is one and only one, that is "Let leave the MUN!".
Many Istalian citizens, supported by some of the major parties, have indicated the Union of Majatran Nations and therefore the decision of Istalia to join it as the main cause of the financial crack that hit the country. The Democratic National Party has already presented in Parliament a proposal to organize a referendum about the permanence of Istalia into the MUN and a large part of the Radical Alliance's Deputies have already expressed their support, led by Camilla Bontempi, who, breaking with Yassen, has declared:

President Aghar is first of all my friend, but I can not hold my ears and remain silent, even though I know this will hurt the Radical Alliance Leader. Unfortunately, however, we must note that Istalia has been reduced to the margins of continental politics, has suffered a crisis probably much worse than that of 4102 and our role as a global lighthouse has been terribly compromised.
According to me, MUN played an important role in this Istalian crisis and I believe that, as a few years ago some nations had already declared, we should re-engage in order to revive the fate of the Majatran Alliance. Obviously, we are ready to keep some of the most important elements introduced by the MUN, such as the Legislative Assembly, but Radical Alliance today is convinced that at the economic level the Alliance has offered greater possibilities, flexibility and above all has been much more successful!
If this means challenging the leadership of Aghar, well, I'm ready! I am sorry for the man and the friend, but as a representative of the Istalian people it is my duty to give priority to the demands of the citizens!

So, a theme that is shaking a whole party that is following the vicissitudes of a wounded country and in which the will of revenge is always stronger. For the time being, the other parties have not expressed themselves, but according to the commentators, the permanence of Istalia into the MUN could be really in danger.

Istalexit is closer than many thought!
Juliana Vespa-Baldassare: "the days of sacrificing Istalian wellbeing for the Majatran good are over!

After the recent elections the once believed myth that the PND with its leave campaign were a marginal minority, has been completely shattered as the National Democrats claim a massive majority and will probably enter into a "Democratic" coalition with the ULD. Most of this is in fact attributed not to the laws that were passed by the previous government, which already set the tone however for a " Istalia First " mentality, but to the proposed referendum which now clearly seen is supported by millions of people which are fed up of living under Cildania after so many years of Istalian prosperity. Juliana Vespa-Baldassare has stated:
The people had enough. The Majatran Union is simply put worse than the Majatran Alliance. Those lunatics want a common currency! The Istalian lira will outlive this herecy and Istalia will thrive outside of this union as soon as the people go to the polls! And how dare they claim that the recovery is thanks to the Union? This is simply disrespectful to the Istalian workers! Which have been struggling more than ever in the last decade. Even the initiators of this affair, the AR, has stopped denying the fact that the Union is too flawed and we thank them for their growing support of our initiative.

A united Majatra is good, but a prosperous Istalia is better!

When asked what the results of the referendum will mean, the PND leader stated that in case of victory, the MA will be reinstated and she is "relieved" that the MACU is still around to help with that. She also stated that the MA will not be a rival organization, but hopefully a close partner of the Union. In case of defeat, she will "obviously resign".
