23rd General Assembly Session

Postby Aquinas » Sun Sep 02, 2018 3:43 pm

Below are the archived discussions of the 23rd General Assembly Session, which lasted from 4447 to 4463.

Jean-Baptiste Boutroux, Private Secretary to His Majesty King Norbert of Noumonde:

Fellow delegates,

On behalf of His Majesty King Norbert of Noumonde, I wish to protest at the decision by the World Congress to allow a candidate to appear on the ballot papers for the General Assembly President election under the name of "King Julien XIII of Noumonde".

This person is most definitely not the King of Noumonde. No royal blood whatsoever flows through his veins and he is, in fact, a wanted criminal in our country.

His Majesty requests the World Congress to explain why it is permitting an individual to run for one of its most senior offices who (a) is an illegitimate pretender to King Norbert's throne, (b) is a wanted criminal, (c) is not known to have any political or diplomatic experience whatsoever, (d) has not even stated his real name and (e) goes around wearing a cartoonish lemur costume.

We understand this scoundrel is currently residing on the Whale Island, trying to persuade World Congress delegates to vote for him. On behalf of His Majesty King Norbert and the government of Noumonde, I therefore appeal to the World Congress to extradite him back to Noumonde, so that he can be put on trial for the offences he has committed against Noumon law.

Demodocus Costas, Keymon Representative in the World Congress
Mr. Bourtroux

Your concerns and protest have sparked a conversation in our government, especially in the foreign ministry.

Your attempts to arrest King Julien XIII is a blatant attempt to kill all opposition to your government and the monarchy. The Lèse-Majesté laws that could put him in prison, are oppressive and tyrannical.

King Julien the XIII is a private individual whom can run for the office of President of the General Assembly. You wish to strike off the ballet because you personally have an issue with him. This is a blatant attempt at silencing opposition.

Keymon will not tolerate oppression, so we have three points we wish to address.

One- King Julien the XIII has the right to run for president of the General Assembly and he shouldn’t have been stricken off the ballot

Two-Keymon demands the General Assembly refuse Noumonde tyrannical of extradition. If the General Assembly will not defend individuals being targeted by tyrannical governments, Keymon will do itself.

Three-This one is directed at King Julien the XIII himself. Keymon will give you safety and security. We will not extradite you to any nation. You are a private citizen and we will give you an opportunity to permanently reside within Keymonite borders while being given protection.

And if King Julien is to come to harm because of Noumonde, Keymon will immediately see it as act of aggression and we will fight back against aggression via both military and economic means.

This blatant attempt of a tyrant silencing enemies is disturbing and Keymon will not tolerate it.

We support a re-election however we do not see it necessary to impeach Kyle Mizzi. We shouldn’t attempt to impeach the current president.

Would Kyle Mizzi consent to resign her post and put herself up for election again, to restore legitimacy and confidence to the GA Presidency?

Tombovelo Tsitohery, Prime Minister of Noumonde:

Fellow delegates,

Vanuku, which is one of the wealthiest and most technologically advanced nations in Terra, have just announced they will further increase the government subsidies they award to their agricultural sector.

This is bad news for third world nations like Noumonde which are dependent on food exports as a means to develop their economies and feed, clothe, house, educate, train and care for their people. Agricultural exports are everything to us.

Fellow delegates, please hear me out. It is inexcusable, in this day and age, that the richest nations in Terra continue to subsidise their farmers and impose tariffs on agricultural imports. They should be stepping back from agricultural protectionism, and giving countries like Noumonde a fair opportunity to export themselves out of poverty.

I therefore call upon the World Congress to support a resolution calling on all nations ranked as "Strong" or "Very Strong" economic powers by the Zardic Institute of International Relations to work towards eliminating all of their agricultural subsidies and agricultural tariff barriers by the year 4500.

Baron Rnúf Herlkasrmko Ashur, Vanukean Ambassador to the World Congress:

Prime Minister Tsitohery, thank you for raising your concerns.

Vanuku, like the majority of nations around Terra, provides subsidies in some shape or form to our domestic farming community to help ensure the primary crops our people require are supplied and that these are delivered at affordable prices.

However, that does not mean that there isn't still a significant export market that we need to tap into to also meet this demand for necessities as well as more luxury goods. For example, many of the "tropical climate" crops that are grown in countries such as Noumonde, Telmania, New Alduria and Tropica cannot be grown cost-effectively in Vanuku or any of the MUN or MA nations that we have free trade deals with.

Therefore, we must look to nations such as yourselves to obtains these commodities.

On that basis, our government would be delighted to explore further trade options with you and perhaps our overseas economic development and trade team could soon visit your country to look at the options for a bilateral, long-standing deal that could benefit both our nations?

Madam Helga Bulow,

The reason the election was called off is because only one candidate was deemed legitimate. The new policy of the WCA is fervently against the inclusion of joke candidates on the ballot in serious elections that have major impacts on world peace.

There were no "electoral irregularities". That would suggest the votes were tampered with, but there was no vote because only one candidate was declared that was able to clear our guidelines.

Signed,
World Congress Administration

The World Congress Administration should not brand candidates it disagrees with as "joke candidates" then use that as a pretext to illegitimately remove them from the ballot once the voting is already in process. You should not disqualify a candidate just because you suddenly develop a fear they might actually win.

The World Congress Administration has heaped enough scorn and ill-treatment upon the learned and honourable King Julien XIII already. Why does it continue with this disgraceful hostile personal campaign?

As for the "electoral irregularity", the electoral irregularity I referred to is that there was no election because the non-establishment candidate was illegitimately and illegally stricken from the ballot.

I now humbly appeal to the World Congress to please impeach the World Congress Administration as well as Kyle Mizzi.

Jean Pascal Junot
Lourennais Représentative to the World Congress

Chères Collègues,

We all understand that this election may have been irregular than most. Yet, this is an office in its beginning stage. It is now time to take example from this election so it will not come to pass again. Yet, I believe the World Congress Administration has appropriately managed this situation and there is no need for further escalations.

There is no need to impeach Kyle Mizzi or any of the World Congress Administration. What we must do is work together with the new World Congress President and learn from our mistakes so our next election is successful.

I recommend that Représentatives here to refrain from angered comments and move on to work together.
