C-Power plans a large investment in Newport Haven
February 9, 4455

Minister Walschot revealed that the 50% government owned C-Power is planning on constructing several large windmill farms in the vicinity of the new port that would be constructed.
Around the area where the new port should be implemented there are several sandbanks with a waterdepth of 20 to 26 metres. This, and the fact that the windforce is, in general, very efficient makes that the area would be ideal to construct windmill farms. In a first stage C-Power, a company that constructs and builds infrastructure for renewable energy, would erect 27 windmills on the southern bank. Afterwards, four other farms would be built with a total of 187 windmills.
C-Power has handed in a request to build the electrical transformers in the new port. The board of directors also said that the decision whether or not these windmills would be built depends on the decision the government takes on Project Newport Haven.
C-Power is owned by the government for 50%. Minister Walschot claimed that this is an investment we cannot afford to loose.

Maybe wait until after next elections
December 2, 4455

Bruno Backx, chairman of LWA, is disappointed in the other parties represented in Presidium. Since it seems impossible to compromise on a new Cabinet, Lodamun has been without a Prime Minister ever since the last elections.
"This situation is not good for our international image. Being unable to elect a new Cabinet reflects on our politicians and on our image in general. Also, we have some great proposals that don't seem to get through to the Presidium, or that are simply being put back because some MP's do not seem to find it necessary to attend meetings."
Bruno Backx is not amused and added that it might be better to put all proposals on hold until the next elections.
"Then again, we have had negotiations with several firms on the Newport Project, these firms are tired of waiting for a decision of the Presidium. If we don't want Lodamun to get into an economical impasse like our neighbors are currently witnessing, we will have to act now."
Some Kalistan firms are waiting for their contracts, which would mean a serious boost for Kalistan economy. Backx said that by postponing these contracts, Lodamun shows refusal to help the neighboring Republic of Kalistan and its citizens.

4456 will bring us repression and sorrow
December 12, 4455

The next year doesn't look too bright if we may believe Thorgan Donitz. He believes that the time has finally come for a major economical setback.
"For years we have been able to limit the effects of the economical difficulties in Kalistan, but now we have come to a breakpoint. The economic problems are spreading through North-Seleya, and it is obvious that this will also affect our economy. If Lodamun does not act fast, the economical chaos will be enormous."
Recently the Presidium supported a massive money injection in our economy, but Donitz is not convinced that this will be enough: "On short term, the Presidium has done quite a fine job, but unfortunately they neglected the long term solutions. This means that whatever Lodamun is doing to minimize the effect of this repression, it is too late to reverse it. Yet, not all is lost. If Presidium comes up with an unseen investment plan, we could get through this period without too much of damage."
Donitz believes that the first real signs will submerge from February 4456 on. With a strong LOD and a vast infrastructure, he believes that Lodamun might survive only suffering minor damage.

25% is the minimum
July 23, 4457

LWA chairman Bruno Backx has called for help to achieve at least one quarter of seats in Presidium with the elections next week. He's confident that his party will reach that point.
"People of Lodamun, you have seen what LWA has done to counter the economic chaos, you witnessed our willingness to come up with daring plans for future investments. We have tried whatever we could to ameliorate your position and comfort. LWA is the answer if we want to reach our goals. LWA is the party that will lead Lodamun the way to an era of prosperity. Please use your right to vote next week, and remember what we have done and what we intend to do in the future."
Backx said to push through the Project Newport Haven if the public chooses to give him that opportunity.

Construction works Project Newport Haven started
November 4462

There is a lot of movement in Norstavan nowadays. The Government has finally accepted the project that will be the new gateway to the sea: Project Newport Haven. Ministers Joseph Harper and Andre Walschot officially opened the construction site yesterday.
The project was a combined idea of current Ministers Donitz and Walschot. After several attempts to get started, there always were some issues that postponed the project. Now it is finally happening: kick-off.
"We had some issues with financing, there were problems with the construction company and so on," Minister Walschot said. "We have rebranded the whole project, contracting Lodamese firms. There is also room for investments by international companies. Soon as this project gets shape, the investments will come."
At this stage, dredging companies are preparing the foundations for the actual port. Meanwhile, there is a massive investment in infrastructure and roads from and to the new port. Because of the changes of plan, the construction might take a little longer than initially planned.

Who wants to buy a nuke?
December 5, 4462

Big sale at the military compounds. Due to change in legislation, the military can no longer produce biological and chemical weapons, nor are they allowed to store them. Major issue for Defence Minister Van Haver, who now has to find a way to get rid of his stock.
"We still had some stock in the shelters in the mountains in Kregon, were these nukes can be stored in a safe way, creating no harm for the nation and its citizens. Helas, the government decided that we can no longer store these bombs and missiles, forgetting to add a clause to the amendement. Too bad. This means I will have to get rid of these weapons. We have already investigated several possibilities, but dumping these missiles at sea doesn't seem like a good idea. We also didn't feel much of the idea to launch our complete stock. The only reasonable possibility left is to sell our weaponry to another nation. If only the government would give me time, we could get rid of most of our stock by dismanteling the whole, but that would take at least 20 months. In the meanwhile, I have put these weapons up for sale. You'll never know who might be interested, and if no one shows up, I hope at least someone will notice how ridiculous and ridiculously dangerous this situation might become."

C-Power and LDC start building windfarm
July 8, 4464

Newport Haven- Off the coast of Newport Haven, LDC ships are dredging the sandbank where the first windfarm would be built. Meanwhile other ships are making soundings and are preparing the seabed to place the electrical cables to connect the windfarm to the shore. The first windmills have arrived at Newport Haven yesterday and are awaiting to be moved at sea where they will be assembled on scene.
The first windmills should be placed by the end of the year, yet power distribution wouldn't be possible untill early 4466.
The first windfarm shall be placed about 10 to 15 miles off the coast, indicating the south border of the westbound fairway towards the new commercial port Newport. As planned, four other areas are to be used for the same purposes. In total, the construction works should take untill late 4465.
Alex Hansen of the Board of Directors of C-Power has announced that C-Power is planning to build similar windfarms across the nation in the future.

Thorgan Donitz' 8 years of Presidency
Supporters and opponents on the LWA
July 4473

At the possible end of this legislation, a lot of Lodamese citizens and politicians gather to discuss the path LWA and their President have walked during the last few years. While the Cabinets have had a lot of work to reach several reforms, the two most prominent figures are Thorgan Donitz and Geofrey Walschot.
One can agree or disagree with the course this President is steering, but one must admit that at last we had a legislation that wasn't scared of investments and that even got rid of the rather isolationist stamp that has been marking Lodamun for centuries. All started with LWA chairman Bruno Backx and former Trade Minister Andre Walschot, when they adressed Thorgan Donitz to come up with a plan to ameliorate the economical situation in Lodamun. Stagnating economy and financial issues abroad had caused Lodamese economy to stop growing and reaching an impasse.
Andre Walschot recalls: "For weeks and months we met in secrecy to work out several plans to save our economic model. At the end we found a few plausible and potentially successful solutions, but we also realized that our semi-isolationism wouldn't help us any further. While our isolationism had indeed protected us for a great deal, we needed to move forward. Or actually, further away. What seemed the best solution to us at that time was an investment to increase the amount of gross tonnage handled by our seaports. The only way to success was to make our nation more attractive on the international scene."
Thorgan Donitz remembers that he and Andre made contacts with several countries in order to attract potential costumers: "We had profound talks with firms all over Terra. At the end of our discussions, three nations seemed to be interested in a thorough cooperation, amongst which Istalia. The Istalian lobby was looking for new markets, as were we. The choice of cooperation seemed obvious, yet we had to be sure there was a solid base of understanding. There were discussions that lasted for years, after which we finally realized that the Istalian Republic was a perfect partner. We even made arrangements for a military cooperation afterwards, showing once again that there is a very good communication and a basis for friendship."
With the project Newport Haven finally operational, Lodamun indeed manages to operate the largest seabound port in North Seleya. This port should bring peace and wealth to Lodamun, but because of the construction of the port, there were lots of joint investments, like the C-power electricity farms. Prime Minister Bruno Backx is proud to announce a naval Traffic Seperation Scheme solely to be used for the ships headed to or coming from Newport Haven: "We have an agreement with Gaduridos that, under certain conditions, shipping headed for our international naval port is allowed safe passage through their EEZ. This helps us and our trade partners of Istalia to reach eachother. Obviously, also the Gaduridos government benefits from this agreement."
Currently, Geofrey Walschot, son of Andre, is trying to reach other nations to use Newport Haven for their trade or to invest in the project: "We have had talks with Kalistan and Lourenne in the past, and there are already several organisations that are using our naval facilities. We even had a few new jointventures or organisations, set up because of the importance and strategic position of our port. There has been a reorganisation in the Lodamese Navy, with the complete First and Second Fleet moved to Newport Haven military facility, which is also being used by an Istalian Naval detachment. The presence of that much military equipment makes sure that a lot of firms, nationally and internationally, are coming towards Newport Haven or settle in the region. There is always a great need of specialised personnel and equipment near a naval base."
LWA is willing to extense the current cooperations, if the electorate gives them the mandate to do so, thus Prime Minister Backx.

Lodamun on international scene
June 2, 4478

It is hardly a secret that decades of LWA participation in government has turned the isolationist Lodamun into an international player. President Donitz is pleased with the new course the government is sailing. Minister of Foreign Affairs Wranckx sees this change as an opportunity for Lodamun to get economical and strategic advantages. Wranckx recently officially opened the military base Richard Orman on the soil of Confederaţia Noului Endralon, Kizenia şi Kuzaki.
"With our bases in New Endralon and Istalia, we are able to support and defend our commercial shipping that boosted since the construction of Newport Haven. Obviously, we have our own fleet in our own ports, but the naval base we currently have in the Confederaţia Noului Endralon, Kizenia şi Kuzaki gives us a strategic advantage in the east. The joint base Gaston Lefebvre in Istalia gives us the advantage of protecting our presence in the west. And yet, it is an multinational understanding. The treaties signed the last decade will give us a massive economical advantage. This is the new Terra, and this is the new Lodamun." Wranckx says.
Two military bases, one east, the other one west. We wonder if there is a claim for another base in the northwest. According Minister Wranckx there isn't. He does however reveal the plans of the current Cabinet: "Military bases abroad are not our main objective. We want to reach a consensus with other nations on economical cooperation. Considering there is a possibility to create a pact between the nations in the northeast to ameliorate our international position on the economical market, we are willing to cooperate on that."
It seems Wranckx is trying to unite several nations in an economic Union. For what we heared, Lodamun doesn't have too much faith in the North Seleyan Union and wishes to have a leading role in what is to become a Union of strong economies.

Lodamun mourns for Matteo Renzo

All Lodamese flags are raised half-post today. Preident Donitz decided that himself, without consulting the Presidium. In a press communiqué he stated that he lost a close friend and an incredible politician. He also said that the choice to have all flags at half-post wasn't a personal one, but that Matteo Renzo has meant a lot to Terra.
