Lodamese fleet ready to set sail

Both the President of the Republic and the Minister of Foreign Affairs showed up in the military part of Newport Haven to inspect the assembled fleet today. Earlier this week, Presidium unanimously accepted to send help to Istalia. The ships would leave within a week.

"It is incredible what is happening here. I would like to congratulate the Minister of Defence on how he managed this huge task." the President stated. "We were preparing for what we knew would happen, but we had to wait until the Presidium agreed with this task. And last week they have given us a formal 'go'."
In the military port of Newport Haven several ships are berthed and are loading or preparing to be loaded. Just a few miles off the coast there are dozens of other ships waiting at anchor to get replenished or to join the task group when leaving port. Without jeopardizing our national defence, this government is showing to Istalia how they feel about the situation oversees. Almost all of our navy's replenishment vessels are joining this operation, along with two commercial containercarriers. They will be guided by seven escorts, the Presidential Command vessel and even the great old aircraftcarrier Northsouth. This carrier will not be used to send up aircraft into the skies however. The sole task is to transfer military equipment and to be used as waterplant once on scene. The carrier has been fitted with several large units of reversed osmosis, which will supply potable water to thousands of people. If local conditions are fair, the ships could supply water for drinking and washing facilities for up to 8000 people a day. The ship also carries a biological plant to help dispose of waste water and make up to 80% reusable.
On the quay hundreds of military vehicles are waiting to get on board. They represent a large detachment of the FAU (Field Accomodation Unit) and the veterinary services.

President Donitz visits Lodamese troops in Istalia
July 2, 4481

Just weeks after the task force, already known as the Lodamese Food Train, reached Istalia, President Thorgan Donitz flew in to visit his troops. It was the very first Presidential visit since the foundation of the Lodamese military contingent permanently based in Istalia at joint base 'Gaston Lefebvre'.
President Donitz inspected the base and also had a chat with some of the military that arrived a few weeks ago in support of the Solentian refugees. The President stated to be amazed by the commitment and professionality he witnessed. He has chosen to stay aboard of the Presidential Command vessel for the night and to continue his visit in the days to come. The President travelled with only his aide-de-camp and secretary, not wanting to cause any inconvenience to the personnel employed oversees. There wasn't any communication whether or not there was or will be any official meeting with Istalian officials or if certain matters would be discussed.

Uncertainty about Donitz's candidacy
November 4, 4483

The immense popular President Thorgan Donitz might not be the Presidential candidate for LWA in the upcoming elections. Apparently his health would affect his career.
No one at LWA was willing to comment this news, but we do have reason to believe that President Donitz might indeed be ill. He was hardly seen in public the last few months, which is odd since he always insisted on having contact with citizens. There might be another explanation. With the little information we have got, it remains guessing whether or not Donitz will be candidate next year.
If Donitz decides to give up his position, a struggle for power will commence. Within LWA there are a few strong figures, like the popular Geofrey Walschot, currently Minister of Trade. Also Bart Wranckx would be a potential candidate. But one should not forget that it was the popularity of Donitz that countered the candidate of LDP on several occasions.
What we did find out at LWA is that former chairman Bruno Backx will be retiring after the next elections.

Exit Donitz
January 3, 4484

LWA will undergo a massive change. Due to health issues President Donitz has announced his resignation both from office and as LWA chairman. With Donitz gone LWA looses a very influential and convincing politician.

Thorgan Donitz has equally presented his successors. His younger brother Evan, currently Minister of Education and Culture, will succeed him as Presidential candidate. He hopes the electorate will reward him for the many years of hard work as Minister. Sol Keyes, Minister of Health, will succeed Thorgan Donitz as party chairman. Keyes was proposed by Donitz himself and was unanimously accepted by the party board.
The party looses a key figure in politics, and do they realize it.
Within a few months we will know if the public puts trust in the party and if LWA will not loose too many votes because of Donitz's resignation.

Cpower gets major deal
August 2, 4484

Geofrey Walschot, Minister of Trade and thus chairman of the board of directors of Cpower, announced a major deal with Tropica.
"We are currently preparing logistics to construct and move the necessary equipment and materials to Tropica. While we are discussing the exploratory works with Tropica, we can give ourselves some idea of the necessary materials. The idea would be to build up to 5 windfarms off the eastern coast. This would provide a massive increase of energy to Tropica itself and the creation of some 500 extra jobs, both in Lodamun and Tropica. The idea would be to assemble the windmills contracting local firms and personnel whenever possible. The production would remain in Lodamun with all of the materials being shipped to Liamderson afterwards," Walschot said.
This contract has a net worth of a estimated 2 billion LOD. With construction taking up to 5 years, this means a solid economical injection. Cpower will put all possible resources on this project.

This is betrayal to me
September 7, 4485

LWA chairman and Health Minister Sol Keyes feels outrageous. His party's coalition partner has reached an agreement with the opposition on forming a new Cabinet, putting LWA in opposition. President Evan Donitz regrets the choice of SDP.
"For decades we had our parties working closely together to make Lodamun better and we were looking forward to another couple of decades of cooperation. LWA has given everything to ameliorate Lodamun and the wellbeing of its citizens, yet these backstabbing basterds will ruin it all. We were on the edge of something big, we had contacts and contracts all over Terra. I believe all our work will prove to be pointless." Keyes said.
President Donitz was calm, but saddened: "Do I feel betrayed? Not really. This is the way democracy works. But I must admit I didn't see that one coming. If only our coalition partners would have spoken to Mr. Keyes or my late brother. I feel that the death of my brother meant the beginning of the end. The bright future Lodamun faced could turn into something else. But I must insist that LWA will try to work constructively with the new Cabinet. And I will continue my tasks as President of the Republic, for all of our citizens. From next month on, I will be on an island as a figure of speech. I can only say that this means a challenge to me, and I will defend all of the good things my brother and those before him have done for the benefit of the nation."
What bothers LWA is the fact that they have no idea how the new coalition will handle the international agreements. Bart Wranckx, Minister of Foreign Affairs currently is travelling to nations with which Lodamun has agreements, probably to reassure their leaders that Lodamun will not breack a given word.

Kregon Governor asks to close borders
September 9, 4485

Harald Crostjov calls for screening of all citizens, since he believes the nation has been infiltrated by people who wish to harm Lodamun.
Governor Crostjov claims that it hardly is a coincidence this trouble started this month: "It is those damn Septembrists. They want to feed on our success, they are like leaches. They will suck the life right out of us. They will benefit from what we achieved and will fuck up the place so bad that we will end up broke."
Kregon always has been the Province that though for itself, but now Governor Crostjov wannts to dictate law to the Presidium: "We had a great time with opening up for international trade, but with that comes jealousy and lowlifes that want to use our system and drain our system, because they're too damn lazy to put effort in the wellbeing of the nation. Presidium should screen all of us, me included. We should kick every Septembrist out, throw them in the ocean. And while we're at it, exhile those lazy Hosians aswell. What have they ever done for this country?"

President Donitz vetoes Cabinet proposal
Donitz re-elected
May 2, 4486

The reason President Donitz was that calm as he was, was because of the fact that he had the right to veto the latest Cabinet proposal. He explained that he would have found it difficult to govern under such circumstances. The opposition immediately after requested and got early elections. Too bad for them, there wasn't much of a landslide. Actually, the elections have proven to be more or less a status quo, and President Donitz got re-elected.

Lodamese Food Train to return home
July 2, 4486

For 5 years now, the Lodamese taskforce has been sailing back and forth to Istalia to deliver goods for the many refugees Istalia is trying to save. President Evan Donitz has now decided that the help, which did cost a bit more than expected, is no longer needed and has ordered for his troops to come home.
Not all of the troops will leave at the same time. It is estimated that the last troops of the task force will leave Istalia no later than September this year. The permanent contingent will obviously stay in Istalia. In the next few weeks, the troops will assemble most of the material in and around the base Gaston Lefebvre. Not all of the equipment will make the journey back to Lodamun. About half of the vehicules will be handed over to the Lodamese Armed Forces in Istalia as well as the old aircraftcarrier Northsouth, which will be laid up in the Naval port as a reserve vessel for the Lodamese Armed Forces in Istalia.
