The formation is scheduled to be finalized via legislation in the Volksrat after the 4539 elections. This morning, at a state luncheon attended by various party functionaries of the MVP-PDE coalition and heads of state, Petrus Kesselring, the Minister of Internal Affairs for much of the existence of the Metzist Republic of Dundorf, announced the merging of various subordinate offices of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Mainly those related to foreign intelligence, counter-intelligence, and to uphold the articles of the Nationaler Sicherheitsgesetz would merge to form the Staatssicherheitsbüro. Kesselring states the merge was to "increase efficiency of the government and reduce bureaucracy". This comes against the suggestions of some who wished for entirely new agencies to be established, amongst a growing wave of government restructuring aimed at reshaping the Dundorfian government, which many stated was left mostly unchanged as the government changed hands during the brief time of the Bundesrepublik.
Kesselring said that his deliberation today was merely an announcement, with the move yet to be finalized via a vote within the Volksrat. With elections mere months away in November of next year, it seems that it was the likely cause. Once the merge is completed, the Staatssicherheitsbüro is likely to exert its newfound abilities across the world, via foreign intelligence operations. Of course, the nature of their potential operations is likely to be classified for quite some time. The office, contrary to the speculation of some, will
not be an independent agency, but will naturally be subordinate to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, but will be granted a modest amount of autonomy in its operations. Outlined in the bill that establishes its creation, the agency will also publish monthly reports regarding its activities to the Council of Ministers.
Unexpectedly however, due to the large scope of its activities, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has asked the Ministry of Infrastructure for funds to be allotted for the construction of a headquarters for the agency, set to be built in Karlsborn, in the Arbeitersstaat of Grozvic. Set to take several months, it is expected to be completed in February of 4540. For the time being, in the brief interim period after the 4539 elections, the SSB shall share office space within the Ministry of Internal Affairs's own headquarters. "Their time spent in our building will be merely temporary," Kesselring states. "The small months between the elections and the estimated completion of their headquarters should be plenty of time for them to solidify their structure and operations."
