Trigunian News AgencyTrigunian Chief of the General Staff sits down with TNAOctober, 4617Rodshyadam - Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Trigunia sat down recently with Trigunian News Agency reporter Arina Kondyurina for a discussion on Trigunian foreign policy, Trigunia's place in the world and the future of the Armed Forces of Trigunia. General of the Army Vaniamin Igorevich Yazov, currently serving as the Minister of Defense and Chief of the General Staff was appointed by incoming Great Prince and Tsar Androniki I and confirmed by the State Duma in September, 4613. The focus of the first half of the interview was the re-building of the Trigunian Armed Forces as an "...international force of peace, prosperity, and stability." General Yazov spoke about the focus of the so-called "Yazov Reforms" which will focus on the down-grading of large-scale formations into more operational and mobile formations. This can be seen as several dozen units have changed to the "Yazov Brigades" as they have been called. These units are operational units and meant to conduct independent operations apart from "larger" formations such as divisions and their assigned Military District and Army Group.
While the focus has been made on making the Trigunian Ground Forces more mobile, the Trigunian Navy has undergone its own "purge" as dozens of officers, from top to bottom have been removed and some court-martialed. Admiral Alexei Chelomeyev who serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Trigunian Navy is a noted reformer and his focus has been on removing the "officer bloat" from the Trigunian Navy, scaling down crews and additional manpower that is needed elsewhere throughout the Trigunian Navy. Underneath previous leadership, the Trigunian Coastal Defense Troops have been organized into two different corps, the artillery and missile coastal defense troops and motor rifle coastal defense troops. Admiral Chelomeyev merged the formations and the new coastal defense troops are focused on what Admiral Chelomeyev calls "...total coastal defense." This removed, according to revised orders of battle from groups such as Gath Defense Collective, the Chesnokov Council of International Affairs, the Zardic Institute of International Studies and others, the coastal defense troops down to 10 coastal defense brigades from 11 but has removed a number of independent formations and reduced the number of officers and increased the presence of non-commissioned officers in the Coastal Defense Troops.
While the focus of increasing the coastal defense of the Trigunian state has been one of the first things tackled by Admiral Chelomeyev, the focus has also been placed on the blue-water operations of the Trigunian Navy. Underneath the current plan, both the South Ocean Fleet and the White Ocean Fleet will continue to rotate operations throughout the globe. While the Trigunian Navy has no direct enemy, the Trigunian Navy underneath Admiral Chelomeyev announced that they will continue to operate throughout the glove, conducting freedom of navigation missions and expanding operations in the arctic. While a sore subject for the northern nations, the Trigunians, and the Kazulians have firm interests in the arctic and Admiral Chelomeyev announced that the expansion of the "Arctic Project" would continue and expand over the next several years. The Directorate of Deep Sea and the Arctic Research, of the General Staff, is staffed by a close ally of Admiral Chelomeyev, Vice Admiral Vasiliy (Vasya) Germanovich Khlebnikov. Vice Admiral Khlebnikov has expanded operations at the Trigunian base of operations in the arctic known as Khabanyev. The "Arctic Project" is known to the Trigunian public but is generally considered to be an "open secret" and information regarding what precisely is happening and what is going on in Khabanyev is unknown.
As the interview went on General Yazov continued to expand on the efforts of the more specialized branches of the Trigunian Armed Forces. For instance, the Trigunian Airborne Forces, considered to be the "elite of the elite" and compares to other special forces units, has conducted bi-monthly training through Trigunia and is believed to be expanding and the most mobile force of the Trigunian Armed Forces. The secretive Trigunian Strategic Missile Forces have undergone a significant review underneath veteran missile engineer Colonel-General Potap Borzilov and movement has seen its missile brigades move across Trigunia and place themselves in new, fortified positions. The 12th Main Directorate of the General Staff is responsible for the oversight and management of all Trigunian nuclear, chemical and biological weapons and according to limited reports, several dozen new silos have been commissioned; these reports are unconfirmed. The Trigunian Special Forces Command has continued its streak of non-reporting.
One of the largest changes has been in the invasiveness of the Rear Services of the Armed Forces of Trigunia underneath the command of Vice-Admiral Vadim Sukachyov. The Rear Services is responsible for a myriad of logistical and administrative actions that fuel, feed, and move the massive Trigunian Armed Forces. The Rear Services have undergone a significant reimagination and have been assigned units underneath their command and are working closely with the Military Aviation Transport Command, a branch of the Trigunian Aerospace Forces that conducts all of Trigunia's strategic lift operations. It is likely that the emphasis for the next several years will be the development of global operational support and sustainment operations. It is likely that Trigunia will be found on the battlefields within the next several years and it must be prepared to conduct any number of operations abroad.
