National Democratic Party seizes power from interim government
February, 4677
Muzal K’alak’i, Muzalkaz - In a rare turn of political fortunes the National Democratic Party and their respective party leadership proclaimed victory in a "snap election" that was organized without the governments knowledge or approval. Despite this, the majority of political support has been levied towards the new National Democratic Party-lead government. The outgoing government lead by former Prime Minister Aleksandre Abuladze has announced that it will accept the legitimacy of the somewhat random, odd "People's Election" and will willingly turn over the government to the National Democratic Party. At the forefront will be President of the "State of Hobrazia" while the interim Hobrazian National Council seeks to build a new constitution. A draft of the Constitution was provided to the Unified Press Association of Hobrazia and Artania for review, the new government will be entitled as the "Hobrazian Democratic Federative Republic" and will draw on support from the majority of the Hobrazian population but also the neglected minorities of Kurassian's and Hobrazian Kozacks. In his first speech before the assembled interim Hobrazian National Council, the incoming government relayed that they would be able to form a government and solidify the constitution within the next several weeks and would be concluded by March, 4677.
It is the first time that a true Hobrazian government has attempted to right the minority-based governments for several decades. The last was the Hobrazian Nationalist Committee which again brought together Hobrazians, Kurassian's and Hobrazian Kozacks. Chairman of the NDP and interim President Alexei Zakariadze noted that the Hobrazian government was going to work to build a government made up of those who represented Hobrazia best, including the Hobrazian Kozacks who were some of the first settlers from Keris, notably Trigunia who helped form the basis of modern Hobrazian language. A bevy of new officials have been appointed by President Zakariadze, including a new commanding officer of the Armed Forces of Hobrazia, now titled as "Hobrazian Defense Forces". The new Chief of the Defense Forces is Hobrazian General Amiran Abuselidze who will be charged with overhauling the large but poor equipped and funded military. The incoming head of the Ministry of Defense, Meliton Liparteliani has stated that the overhaul and reform of the Hobrazian Defense Forces and the Ministry of Defense is paramount to the success and defense of the Hobrazian people.
The new Minister of Internal Affairs welcomed the challenge, former police officer Konstantine Urushadze who is tapped to lead the shattered Ministry of Internal Affairs has already hit the ground running. He announced that the Public Security Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs would be overseen by Lieutenant General of the Police Revazi Geladze and would have a comprehensive report on the status of the national police within six months. He announced that the Traffic Police Department would be taken over by Major General of the Police Azat Chabukiani and would be given six months to provide a comprehensive report on the status of the Traffic Police. The Minister of Internal Affairs noted that the formation of the "Internal Troops" akin to a national guard would be formed within the year and would be responsible for civil defense, riot control and assisting in search and rescue operations. The current Border Police would be reformed into the Border Troops and would be placed underneath the command and control of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and will receive military training and be equipped as a military force but will focus on civilian law enforcement style duties.
Finance Minister and former Vice President of the Foreign Trade Bank, a private entity that operated much of the former governments foreign trade, Givi Pirtskhalaishvili will close the Hobrazian National Stock Exchange for several weeks while a corporate register is formally established within the Ministry of Finance. The Ministry of Finance will create a new government organization responsible for economic supervision, it will be known as the State Economic Planning Committee and will be charged with overview of the Hobrazian economy. The Finance Minister is expected to visit several Artanian neighbors looking to drive foreign investment in Hobrazia. Under a direct act of legislation by the Hobrazian National Council the Ministry of Finance was granted exclusive rights to all ports in Hobrazia and placed them underneath the newly formed State Border Committee, the de facto customs and immigration/emigration authority who will have some command and control shared with the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The act also made the Foreign Trade Bank a de facto holding of the Ministry of Finance and will be responsible for sometime as an import-export bank of Hobrazia. Vasil Tarkhnishvili was announced as the new Governor of the State Bank of Hobrazia and is expected to meet with the interim President and Chairman of the Council of Ministers.
The incoming Chairman of the Council of Ministers held a press conference with the Minister of Trade and Industry, the Minister of Education and Culture as well as the Ministers of Infrastructure and Transportation and Science and Technology. The press conference was aimed at building the infrastructure of Hobrazia over the course of 25 years. First and foremost was the development of a national infrastructure plan that would replace the current highway and freeway system. Science and Technology Minister Rostom Tsulukidze noted that the development of network infrastructure for internet and mobile phones was paramount for "...freedom and success of the Hobrazian economy."
