Regardless, the February elections came and went, with three delegates campaigning under the wings of the DFP, with Violetta Adlartok's more socially-liberal leaning wing coming out on top in nomination contests, before securing the Presidency in an uncontested race. However within the DFP itself, the party is still rigidly in control of social democrats - although Adlartok hints at arranging fresh elections within the party in the closing of her victory speech.
Last month's elections also marked the historic election of the nation's first indigenous politician to the office of the President. Violetta Adlartok, 35, previously served as the Chairman of the Søndrhavn province under the second term of President Lassen and is of Mashacara ancestry. Under her tenure as Chairman, Søndrhavn experienced relative economic growth with the rest of the country, in some areas pulling ahead of current growth rates for certain national industries, such as logging and software engineering. The province under her tenure had also seen the growth of the small business sector, in part due to moderate tax cuts for local businesses.
Adlartok's victory has seemingly been interpreted by political analysts as a sort of "return to force" of the previously dominant ideology of the DFP: Social liberalism with occasional progressivism, both economic and social. "I've always seen myself as a believer in the values that guided this party when it founded our modern Republic, and staved off radicalism," Adlartok stated during her victory speech. "Progressive policies as well as being socially liberal have allowed this nation to blossom from a dictatorship to a welcoming, tolerant nation - And we still have yet to stumble, ever ready to continue prospering as the years go by."
The incumbent President campaigned on a platform of increased cooperation with the Prime Minister and the Folketinget - And to work with deputies to craft legislation which protects the rights of indigenous tribes across the nation, all of which have little to no representation aside from rights guaranteed as citizens of the Republic. Adlartok also rallied for financial reform and the moderate lowering of corporate and luxury sales tax rates, to further encourage both foreign and domestic investment within Davostan. The most interesting of policies championed by the young leader is the revamping of autonomy for both Dovmark and Kyrmár - with talks of the establishment of regional legislatures alongside national level administrative changes being floated among Adlartok and her cabinet.
Among other things, during the campaign trail the DFP did successfully name a new Leader during the brief period of uncertainty following Oda Hemmingsen's death. Having been elected by a mere 5,649 vote margin was Örn Einisson, Secretary-General of the DFP's Kyrmár (The city, that is) branch, once again making history as the first ethnic Kivonian to hold the post.
