Five new hospitals opened in Kirlawa, one per region
The new medical centers have enough beds to serve 1,500 people each, and will host a biobank about genomics and viral diseases

The Kirlawan government today opened five new hospitals, one per region, for the country's public health service and capable of accommodating 1,500 people each. The Minister of Health, Aurora Caroll, said at a press conference that she is proud of it, and thanked all those who have contributed to its construction.

Mrs. Caroll, who has also immediately announced the hiring of healthcare professionals for these hospitals, said:

"In Kirlawa, we have more than one million health professionals distributed throughout the nation, and thanks to these new facilities, we will be able to host a greater number of professionals dedicated to the health sector, an essential sector for our development as society and thus joins the researchers of the recently inaugurated ITEAK to make our nation a world leader in the science and health sectors. "

Hospitals, which have been under construction for four years, will receive medical instruments designed by ITEAK, positioning themselves as the country's leading hospitals. Located each in the capital of their respective regions, hospitals will be prepared to be the main resource against pandemics or serious diseases, in addition to having their own rapid research laboratories.

In addition, the Minister has announced a public job offer aimed at hiring new staff for these hospitals, which are estimated to employ more than 5,000 workers, including doctors, nurses and other health personnel. In addition, in one of the five - it has not been specified in which, to avoid possible attacks - the creation of a biobank will begin to collect, store and distribute biological material and the data associated with said material. This biobank will remain specialized in genome and viral diseases. The Minister has also made an international call for collaboration for the maintenance and development of the biobank

BREAKING The end of Parkinson is closer?
A group of scientists led by the Rector of ITEAK achieve promising results against this disease in mice: reduction by 40-60% or even the complete stop

Image
Saoirse Maher (centre), Rector of the ITEAK since 4737 and geneticist

Following the announcement by ITEAK scientists of a promising retroviral against influenza that does not produce resistant strains, today this magazine publishes the second major breakthrough achieved: a team of scientists led by Mrs. Maher has made an important advance to achieve Parkinson's cure.

What is the Parkinson disease? It is a neurodegenerative disorder (of the nervous system) that is included among the so-called movement disorders, of unknown origin and that at the moment, has no cure. It is the second neurodegenerative disease in number of cases after Alzheimer and is characterized by the loss or degeneration of neurons in the middle part of the brain, specifically, in the so-called substantia nigra. This loss of neurons or their degeneration leads to a deficiency of dopamine, a substance that acts as a chemical messenger (neurotransmitter), in the body, which alters movement control and produces tremors at rest or rigidity, among other disorders.

It is still unknown what causes the loss, degeneration or death of neurons that produce dopamine causing an abnormality in brain activity and triggering the symptoms of Parkinson's disease, but several factors have been identified that seem to influence, such as specific genetic mutations, exposure to certain toxins or presence of Lewy bodies in the brain.

Risk factors include being around age 60 and over, having a close relative who suffers from the disease, or being a man, as they are more likely to develop it.

In relation to its symptoms, the typical ones are tremors or shaking of a limb at rest, slow movement, muscular rigidity, hunched posture, balance problems, changes in speech and writing, depression, anxiety and emotional changes, sleep disorders, difficulty thinking, problems chewing and eating, etc.

Despite the fact that at the moment there is no known cure, Dr. Maher and her team have made significant progress, although for the moment it has only been tested in mice and will require an adequate and long experimentation process.

In their experiments, carried out with a combination of anticholinergic drugs, dopamine precursors and agonists, inhibitors and other components, they have been able to reduce the rate of degeneration by a percentage between 40 and 60%, and in a couple of cases, not yet significant, as further study will be required, have managed to completely stop the progression of the disease. Now, it is in those cases in which they are going to focus, to study what conditions are those that have led to that situation and if it is something that remains constant over time or after days or even years, the disease continues again your course.

"Without a doubt, these results are very promising and we are beginning to glimpse a light, still very dim, but very hopeful, to achieve the cure of one of the great diseases of our time. Achieving these results gives us more strength to continue investigating, and although at the moment, in view of these results, we have not been able to reverse the effects of the disease - something that, unfortunately, is much more unlikely to be achieved - we do see an important solution: the reduction of the speed of advance of the disease between 40 and 60% is something very big, and the fact that we have even managed to stop it completely ... is a historical milestone"
Dr. Maher told this newspaper.

First change of government in almost four decades
The Social Democrats manage to win for the first time in forty years an election for Standing Left, which continues to maintain the Head of State and Government

Image
Taoiseach Kennedy (left) with a senior member of the Social Democrats

For the first time since the turn of the century, Kirlawa will have an executive with no Standing Left ministers.
After the last elections, the Taoiseach Ciarán Kennedy won his fifth consecutive re-election by just 300,000 votes apart, and the public demonstrated that after almost four decades of uninterrupted Standing Left governments, they demanded a change. With almost 700,000 votes apart, for the first time in this century the Social Democrats became the most voted force, displacing Standing Left into the opposition and forcing Taoiseach Kennedy to form a government with the Social Democrats. The great electoral surprise, however, came from the Merkan region, the only regional government that Standing Left has retained under its power, also with an overwhelming difference: the Social Democrats have not achieved a single seat in this region, which has granted its 150 senators to Standing Left.
In addition, the Presidency of the Federal Senate has also fallen into the hands of the Social Democrats.
Despite this change of government, the nation's political stability is assured, since Kirlawa's recent policy stands out for the absence of conflict between parties, which collaborate on many social issues.

AN Party Congress Passes Party Platform

Party Delegates Review and Vote on Official Platform in Éagsúila Convention Center

What started as a relatively small and fringe political movement in 4755 has stormed Kirlawa over the past five years, swiftly growing in popularity day by day, rally by rally, campaign by campaign, until it has become a strong nationalist movement to contend with the reigning political parties. Ár Náisiún initially began as a non-party political movement advocating for the implementation of civic nationalist policies in Kirlawa, yet now is expected to win seats in the Seanad and even some governorships in the coming elections. Though its first stirrings as a movement began in 4755, and its preceding nationalist sentiments dating back millennia, the movement was not consolidated into a single party until 4756 by Ryan MacArthur, an ex high school Kilani language teacher and prevalent voice in the nationalist movement who today serves as the party's Chairman and candidate for Taoiseach.

Though the Ár Náisiún party has officially been a political entity for nearly four years, its positions have been vague compared to other Kirlawan parties, and have been held together by a general agreement on the primacy of the Kirlawan people in the creation of government policy. This has allowed the party to act as a sort of big tent coalition of economic leftists and rightists, and social authoritarians and libertarians, as long as they shared the same principles of nationalism. However, in the run-up to the coming elections, party officials have decided to hold a Party Congress in Éagsúila, where an official platform would be drafted and election candidates would be selected. The new platform would see the formation of a party dedicated to the policies which focus on the well-being of Kirlawan citizens and their support through safety net welfare programs, the establishment of an economic "Fair Deal" between workers, consumers, and businesses; and the empowerment of workers organizations, the development of the Kirlawan armed forces and the protection of Kirlawan rights to own weapons and form militias, and the establishment of a foreign policy doctrine based on the ideals of Kirlawan neutrality and universal national sovereignty.

Platform of the Ár Náisiún Party of Kirlawa
1 Kirlawa for Kirlawans
1.1 NATIONALISM: Kirlawa and her people have long been a diverse array of different ethnicities living and working together. Celda and Luthorians have long lived and worked together to make Kirlawa great. This makes Kirlawa not just a nation of homogenous speakers, traditions, and religions, but a collection of peoples who have lived and been born in the same land for generations. This is what Ár Náisiún seeks to protect and support, and what it draws its pride from, the people who are born and raised in our beautiful land and those who have worked to build our country.
1.2 FOREIGN AID: We see the other peoples of Terra as our equals and friends to the peoples of Kirlawa. However, the purpose of the Kirlawan government should be to support the Kirlawan people, and that purpose must be prioritised. For this reason we oppose sending large sums of funds and supplies abroad to support nations other than Kirlawa.
1.3 IMMIGRATION: Again, the role of the Kirlawan government and the Kirlawan nation is to support the Kirlawan people. For this reason, we oppose the distribution of government assistance in the forms of funds, product vouchers, and other forms of assistance directed for public assistance to non-Kirlawans living in Kirlawa. For this reason also, we support the imposition of controls of immigration into Kirlawa to prevent the intake of economic migrants and ensure that Kirlawan wages are not depressed by the influx of new workers into the labor market.
2 A Society of Kirlawan Comrades
2.1 WELFARE: One of the goals of the state should be to ensure that no Kirlawan is left to poverty and destitution, and that no Kirlawan is allowed to suffer when something can be done. The Kirlawan people, by way of mutual history and homeland, are comrades who are more than capable of taking care of eachother. For this reason, we support welfare programs for the genuinely disadvantaged, and a state-funded healthcare system that provides emergency services to the Kirlawan people.
2.1.1 We also recognize that excessive welfare programs serve to disincentivize joining the labor force, so we support giving welfare benefits only to those who are unable to work, and only to those who are left unemployed but continue to search for work.
2.2 EDUCATION: The state should also serve to assist the individual in their search for self-improvement and the building of their individual capital since it is only through the creation of strong individuals that a strong community can be made. For this reason, we support government funding of education institutions, whether they be academic or trade institutions, and the subsidization of the tuitions of exceptional individuals seeking higher education.
3 A Free Market in the Hands of the People
3.1 FAIR DEAL: Free-market capitalism has largely been a net-benefit on Terra and her inhabitants, and upon the Kirlawan people. Free markets led by the forces of supply and demand inevitably leads to the most efficient allocation of resources. However, this system is not perfect and occasionally has its failures and, when unregulated, creates an environment which allows for the exploitation of Kirlawan workers and consumers. For this reason, we advocate for the implementation of necessary regulations upon the free market in order to ensure a Fair Deal between Kirlawan workers, consumers, and businesses.
3.2 WORKERS: Nobody knows what the Kirlawan worker needs other than the Kirlawan worker himself, so the Kirlawan worker must be empowered so that he may ensure that his rights and privileges are granted. For this reason, we support worker-led labor unions and their empowerment, as well as the requirement for corporate boards to include worker representatives and the encouragement of businesses being managed by democratic workers councils.
3.3 PROTECTIONISM: The protection and building of domestic industries is imperative to the prosperity of Kirlawa and her people. For this reason, we oppose detrimental free-trade policies which would destroy domestic industry, support government subsidization of new industry, and support restrictions upon the amount of stock in domestic companies that can be held by foreign entities.
4 The Great Shield
4.1 MILITARY: The most important goal of the state, and its most important obligation to the nation is the protection of the people from foreign aggression. For this reason, we believe it is imperative that Kirlawa fields a military large enough and strong enough to ensure her national and territorial sovereignty, and that the military should be equipped with the most technologically advanced and effective tools necessary for it to excel.
4.2 MILITIA: Ultimately, it is the Kirlawan nation rather than the Kirlawan state which must be prepared in the case that it is placed in chains, whether by foreign occupation or domestic tyranny. For this reason, we believe that the right of the Kirlawan people to keep and bear arms, and to form citizens militias should not be infringed.
5 A Friend of Terra, Distant From Terra
5.1 NEUTRALITY: Seeing as the boycotting of certain foreign states for their domestic policies and foreign relations will only serve to ideologically blind Kirlawa and prevent her from establishing the relations most beneficial to her, we believe that Kirlawa should serve only as a force of neutrality in Terra, and abstain from participation in great power blocs.
5.2 NATIONAL SOVEREIGNTY: We believe it is the right of all nations to their own self-governance and the governance of their historical homeland, so we oppose the use of offensive military force to strip nations of this right, and we oppose the usage of the World Congress as a tool to strip nations of this right.

Ár Náisiún Sweeps Elections

AN Seanad Leader Elton Mac Coluim of Nuchtmark

August 15, 4760
After years of building a movement and months of campaigning, the time has finally come for Ár Náisiún to directly enact its policies and see its desired changes made through action in government rather than through minor demonstrations and political acts. In Kirlawa's general elections of August 4760, Ár Náisiún swept a plurality of seats in the Seanad na Poblachta (Securing 293 seats across the nation), and gaining the necessary majorities in the Cúigí of Merkan and Nuchtmark. A number of officials have been announced following the elections, including the Leader of the AN in the Seanad, Elton Mac Coluim (AN-Nuchtmark); the governors of Merkan (Suibhne Kyle) and (Fionnlagh Mac Daibhéid); and the official members of the AN Shadow Cabinet.

Leader Mac Coluim gave a press conference following the elections announcing the party's plans for the coming term. First, Mac Coluim addressed the issue of the formations of a government, stating that he'd be willing to work with the Taoiseach and other parties in achieving "mutual Kirlawan interests," but has stated his belief that a status quo government would continue to reign and that AN is "willing and ready" to serve as the leader of the opposition. Mac Coluim has also stated that over the next few years, AN policymakers would be focusing on "The Great Shield" aspect of its platform, pushing for military reform and modernization as well as the expansion of the weapon rights of Kirlawans and the legalization of regulated militias.

ITEAK announces its association with the multinational 3M
From the research center they have made it clear that this is a "close collaboration" and that the entity will continue to be completely independent

Image

The Rector of ITEAK, Molly Horan, announced today that the institution has decided to associate itself with the 3M multinational industry, although it will do so under different conditions than those of the other members.

As explained by Mrs. Horan, ITEAK will not be integrated into the structure of 3M, but there will be a "close collaboration" between the research center and the multinational on issues related to medical research and drug manufacturing.

As said in the press conference, due to its nature as a public institution serving citizens, ITEAK does not accept donations from private entities as part of the new regulations approved by her predecessor, in the same way that its shares are not listed on the stock exchange. In this way, said Mrs. Horan, "ITEAK ensures its complete independence against any attempt of external interference". This will prevent ITEAK from receiving funds from entities such as the Appiano Foundation.

The other red line that ITEAK has established is that patents will continue to belong exclusively to both the Kirlawan government and the research center itself, thus reserving the right to all scientific findings.

The benefits towards 3M, on the other hand, include privileged access to ongoing investigations, as well as collaboration in them and, in addition, training of new professionals and workers in the health and research sector.

The C'lan" rebellion
Caelan Allen and Caolán Hughes lead change to "reactivate the left"

ImageImage
Taoiseach Caolán Hughes (left) and Uachtarán Caelan Allen (right), founders of "Bright Spring"

The Head of State and Head of Government of Kirlawa, Caelan Allen and Caolán Hughes, informally known as the "C'lan" for the similarities of their names, have announced this noon that they are disassociating themselves from the political party in which they launched their careers and stood with the elections, Standing Left, to launch a new political project that they hope will appeal to all previous voters.

Earrach Geal - Bright Spring - is the name that both have decided to give their new political project, which in practice is the direct heir of Standing Left. Just a few hours after the news was announced, half of the parliamentarians elected by Standing Left have announced their passage to the new formation, while the other half, who have refused to join, have resigned and have been replaced by senators related to the new political project.

Despite the fact that Standing Left has been the benchmark of the left in Kirlawa and a powerful party since its formation as a political party, it has won practically every election since its appearance, in recent years numerous internal conflicts, accusations of opacity and negligence of functions and corruption have diminished the capacities of its members, who have gradually withdrawn from the party. However, after the C'lan's election as secretary general and leader of Standing Left, they both proposed that a profound change was necessary in the party, and that change has materialized with this new project, which permanently buries Standing Left. and replaces it with Bright Spring, although retaining much of the ideology. Now, the new party intends to check its results in the next elections
